Abstract:The potential optoelectronic applications of perovskite nanocrystals (NCs) are primarily limited by major material instability arising from the ionic nature of the NC lattice. Herein, we introduce a facile and effective strategy to prepare extremely stable CsPbX3 NC polymer composites. NC surfaces are passivated with reactive methacrylic acid (MA) ligands, resulting in the formation of homogeneous nanocubes (abbreviated as MA-NCs) with a size of 14-17 nm and a photoluminescence quantum yield above 80%. The free double bonds on the surface then serve as chemically addressable synthetic handles, enabling UV-induced radical polymerization. Critically, a bromide-rich environment is developed to prevent NC sintering. The composites obtained from copolymerizing MA-NCs with hydrophobic methyl methacrylate and methacrylisobutyl polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane monomers exhibit enhanced properties compared to previously reported encapsulated NCs, including higher quantum yields, remarkable chemical stability toward water, and much enhanced thermal stability. The good solubility of the composite in organic solvent further enables its use as a solution-processable luminescent ink, used here for fabrication of white light-emitting diodes with high luminous efficiency and excellent color-rendering index. The resulting fluorescent and stable NC ink opens the door to potential scalable and robust optoelectronic applications.

Abstract:All-inorganic (CsPbX3, X = Cl, Br, I) perovskite nanocrystals (PNCs) demonstrate promising optoelectronic properties, provided their poor stabilities can be overcome. Herein, a facile in-situ encapsulating strategy is proposed to form super-hydrophobic nanocomposites (abbr. PNC@SSiP) on a large scale by incorporating CsPbBr3 NCs into organosilica nanoparticles, which reduces degradation and improves the environmental stabilities. The resulting nanocomposites demonstrated monodispersed CsPbBr3 NCs (5-6 nm) embedded homogeneously in the organosilica matrix, and a high photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY over 50%). The PNC@SSiP exhibited extraordinary stability towards water, enhanced thermal stability and photostability. However, photoluminescent (PL) decay of less than 20% can be monitored if the PNC@SSiP nanocomposites are immersed in water for 60 days. In addition, a high static contact angle for water (152.44 +/- 0.97 degrees) further indicates excellent super-hydrophobicity of the nanocomposites. The super-hydrophobic PNC@SSiP nanocomposites can be used for fabricating luminous devices, such as white light emitting diode (WLED), further demonstrating the potential value of the obtained nanocomposites as a stable luminophore in optoelectronic applications. This novel synthesis strategy greatly widens the methods for fabricating highly stable perovskite materials in optoelectronic applications.
In-situ stabilization strategy for CsPbX3-Silicone resin composite with enhanced luminescence and stability

Abstract:Inorganic lead halide perovskite (CsPbX3, X = Cl, Br, I) nanocrystals (LHP NCs) are promising materials for a variety of photonic or optoelectronic applications. Yet their intrinsic instability issue remains a critical challenge to overcome. Encapsulation of ionic LHP NCs in inert matrices such as polysiloxanes has been proved as an effective stabilization strategy, but the ex-situ synthesis of LHP NCs remains a limiting factor. Herein, an in-situ stabilization strategy that involves synergistic crystallization of LHP NCs and crosslinking of addition-type silicone oil precursors is reported. This simple, yet general stabilization strategy can effectively passivate the trap defects and increase the radiative recombination of CsPbX3 NCs, which leads to a significant enhancement of the photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) from 68% for the solution to 82% for the composite powder. A series of CsPbX3-silicone resin composites with tunable emission wavelength ranging from 445 to 613 nm can be simply obtained by using suitable halide salts. Because of the protection of the silicone resin, the CsPbBr3-silicone resin composites exhibit high stability against moisture or heat in the ambient environment and could still keep their photoluminescence (PL) emission after being kept in air for one year or immersed in water for two months. Such composites have been used as functional downconverters in white LEDs that demonstrated a 92.7% color gamut coverage of Rec.2020. This work provides an alternative approach to solve the challenging stability issue of perovskite NCs.

Abstract:Inorganic CsPbX3 (X = Cl, Br, I) perovskite quantum dots (PQDs) have attracted widespread attention due to their excellent optical properties and extensive application prospects. However, their inherent structural instability significantly hinders their practical application despite their outstanding optical performance. To enhance stability, an in situ electrospinning strategy was used to synthesize CsPbX3/polyacrylonitrile composite nanofibers. By optimizing process parameters (e.g., halide ratio, electrospinning voltage, and heat treatment temperature), all-inorganic CsPbX3 PQDs have been successfully grown in a polyacrylonitrile (PAN) matrix. During the electrospinning process, the rapid solidification of electrospun fibers not only effectively constrained the formation of large-sized PQDs but also provided effective physical protection for PQDs, resulting in the improvement in the water stability of PQDs by minimizing external environmental interference. Even after storage in water for over 100 days, the PQDs maintained approximately 93.5% of their photoluminescence intensity. Through the adjustment of halogen elements, the as-obtained composite nanofibers exhibited color-tunable luminescence in the visible light region, and based on this, a series of multicolor anti-counterfeiting patterns were fabricated. Additionally, benefiting from the excellent water stability and optical performance, the CsPbBr3/PAN composite film was combined with red-emitting K2SiF6:Mn4+ (KSF) on a blue LED (460 nm), producing a stable and efficient WLED device with a color temperature of around 6000 K and CIE coordinates of (0.318, 0.322). These results provide a general approach to synthesizing PQDs/polymer nanocomposites with excellent water stability and multicolor emission, thereby promoting their practical applications in multifunctional optoelectronic devices and advanced anti-counterfeiting.

Abstract:In this study, a simple low‐temperature self‐assembly strategy is used to synthesize the CsPbBr3/Cs4PbBr6 nanocomposite with a relatively high photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY, 72%) and product yield (87%). As expected, the nanocomposite exhibits good photoluminescence (PL) performance and stability. Further, 90% of the PLQY is maintained even when heating at 100 °C for 24 h, and almost no emission degradation is observed after storage in ethanol for 10 days. Furthermore, the prepared CsPbBr3/Cs4PbBr6 nanocomposite exhibits the reversible luminescence phenomenon by simply applying the wetting and drying process. This abnormal phenomenon is due to the internal phase transformation of the CsPbBr3/Cs4PbBr6 nanocomposite. The potential application of the nanocomposite in anti‐counterfeiting has been demonstrated. This work facilitates the production and application of inorganic metal halide perovskite‐based functional materials.

Abstract:In spite of the excellent optical properties of all-inorganic halide perovskite quantum dots (PQDs), they still suffer from inherent poor stability even when exposed to moisture from the atmosphere, restricting their applications, especially in white-light-emitting diodes (LEDs) and cells imaging. Here, we proposed a strategy by encapsulating the CsPbX3 (X = Cl, Br, I) PQDs into silica nanoplates to prepare highly stable and water-soluble CsPbX3/SiO2 nanocomposites. First, the 120 nm monodisperse CsPbX3/SiO2 nanocomposites inlayed with several CsPbX3 PQDs were fabricated via the modified Stöber method. After coating, their stability exposed in the air was largely improved for all the CsPbX3 (X = Cl, Br, I) PQDs without changing their emission peaks and full-width at half-maximum, attributed to the suppression of the anion-exchange and decomposition. Moreover, further experiments demonstrated that the CsPbX3/SiO2 nanocomposites were highly water-soluble and stable in the water. Their applications in LEDs and cell imaging demonstrated their ultrastability and high biocompatibility. Therefore, this study shows the possibility of their use in photoelectric devices and biological applications.

Abstract:All-inorganic CsPbX3 (X = Cl, Br, I) perovskite nanocrystals (NCs) are highly attractive due to their outstanding optical and electrical properties. However, poor stability and easy anion exchanges between CsPbX3 nanocrystals with different halides limit their applications in light-emitting diodes (LEDs). To solve the problems, we developed an approach to in situ synthesize CsPbX3 NCs into porous silica colloidal spheres, which can effectively prevent anion exchange and increase photo stability. Based on our results, we first proved that the anion exchange between CsPbX3 nanocrystals is mainly driven by physical collision of the nanocrystals, not requiring a bridge such as a solvent. We subsequently used an optimized ratio of green, red, and blue SiO2/CsPbX3 composites as solid-state luminescent materials to fabricate single-layer white light-emitting diodes (WLEDs). No anion exchanges have been observed in the LED fabrication and lighting process.
Bright emission and high photoluminescence CsPb2Br5 NCs encapsulated in mesoporous silica with ultrahigh stability and excellent optical properties for white light-emitting diodes

Abstract:All-inorganic cesium lead halide perovskite CsPb2Br5 nanocrystals (NCs) have attracted tremendous attention owing to their unique optoelectronic properties. However, their tolerance to atmospheric moisture is limited by their corresponding poor stability, which has drastically prevented the broad application of the materials in lasers, light-emitting diodes (LED) and, most recently, photocatalysis. To address this issue, we have successfully demonstrated the design and synthesis of a nanocomposite material, CsPb2Br5 NCs coated in mesoporous silica (NCs-MS), with high photoluminescence (PL) intensity, bright emission and enhanced water stability, thermal stability and photostability versus naked CsPb2Br5 NCs. The components and structure of the prepared CsPb2Br5 NCs-MS nanocomposite were investigated in detail by PL, XRD, TEM and HAADF-STEM studies. Furthermore, the mechanism behind the outstanding stability and optical properties of the prepared NCs-MS nanocomposite is discussed. Owing to the ultrahigh stability of the NCs-MS nanocomposite, the white LED (WLED) assembled by coating the CsPb2Br5 NCs-MS nanocomposite and commercial red CaAlSiN3:Eu2+ phosphor powder on an InGaN blue chip showed CIE chromaticity coordinates of (0.3377, 0.3309) and presented excellent optical parameters with a CRI of 82.9, a CCT of 5035 K and an LE of 64.9 lm W-1. This work provides a new pathway for the synthesis and application of all-inorganic cesium lead halide perovskite materials in WLEDs and display devices.

Abstract:Abstract Achieving good stability while maintaining excellent properties is one of the main challenges for enhancing the competitiveness of luminescent perovskite CsPbX 3 (X=Cl, Br, I) nanocrystals (NCs). Here, we propose a facile strategy to synthesize ceramic-like stable and highly luminescent CsPbBr 3 NCs by encapsulating them into silica derived from molecular sieve templates at high temperature (600–900 o C). The obtained CsPbBr 3 -SiO 2 powders not only show high photoluminescence quantum yield (~71%), but also show an exceptional stability comparable to the ceramic Sr 2 SiO 4 :Eu 2+ green phosphor. They can maintain 100% of their photoluminescence value under illumination on blue light-emitting diodes (LEDs) chips (20 mA, 2.7 V) for 1000 h, and can also survive in a harsh hydrochloric acid aqueous solution (1 M) for 50 days. We believe that the above robust stabilities will significantly enhance the potential of perovskite CsPbX 3 NCs to be practically applied in LEDs and backlight displays.

Abstract:One‐step synthesis of perovskite nanocrystal inks is demonstrated. Through precise composition control, the emission spectra can be effortlessly adjusted spanning 410 to 710 nm. The resulting CsPbX3 nanocrystals exhibit narrow emission line‐widths, ranging from 21 to 39 nm, an expansive color gamut encompassing up to 130% of the NTSC color standard, and exceptional quantum yields reaching up to 100%. Metal halide perovskite nanocrystals (NCs) have garnered significant attention due to their captivating optoelectronic properties. One promising application for these materials is their use as color‐conversion layers (CCLs) in blue micro‐LED technology, enabling the realization of full‐color displays. Nonetheless, a pivotal challenge revolves around producing efficient luminescent perovskite inks and subsequently employing them for inkjet printing finely patterned CCLs. In this study, a straightforward single‐step hot‐injection method is introduced for synthesizing inks comprising CsPbX3 NCs, where X represents Cl, Br, and I, or mixed halide systems such as Cl/Br and Br/I. Through precise composition control, the emission spectra can be effortlessly adjusted across the entire visible spectrum, spanning from 410 to 710 nm. The resulting CsPbX3 NCs exhibit narrow emission line‐widths, ranging from 21 to 39 nm, an expansive color gamut encompassing up to 130% of the National Television Standards Committee color standard, and exceptional quantum yields reaching up to 100%. With their superb optical performance, facile synthesis procedure, and robust stability, these CsPbX3 NCs emerge as highly suitable candidates for their use as CCLs with blue light‐emitting devices deployed as backlights.

Abstract:CsPbX3 (X = Cl, Br, and I) perovskite nanocrystals (NCs) are known for their exceptional optoelectronic properties, yet the material's instability toward polar solvents, heat, or UV irradiation greatly limits its further applications. Herein, an efficient in situ growing strategy has been developed to give highly stable perovskite NC composites (abbreviated CsPbX3@CA-SiO2) by anchoring CsPbX3 NCs onto silica nanowires (NWs), which effectively depresses the optical degradation of their photoluminescence (PL) and enhances stability. The preparation of surface-functionalized serpentine silica NWs is realized by a sol-gel process involving hydrolysis of a mixture of tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS), 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane (APTES), and trimethoxy(octadecyl)silane (TMODS) in a water/oil emulsion. The serpentine NWs are formed via an anisotropic growth with lengths up to 8 mu m. The free amino groups are employed as surface ligands for growing perovskite NCs, yielding distributed monodisperse NC (similar to 8 nm) around the NW matrix. The emission wavelength is tunable by simple variation of the halide compositions (CsPbX3, X = Cl, Br, or I), and the composites demonstrate a high photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY 32-69%). Additionally, we have demonstrated the composites CsPbX3@CA-SiO2 can be self-woven to form a porous 3D hierarchical NWs membrane, giving rise to a superhydrophobic surface with hierarchical micro/nano structural features. The resulting composites exhibit high stability toward water, heat, and UV irradiation. This work elucidates an effective strategy to incorporate perovskite nanocrystals onto functional matrices as multifunctional stable light sources.

Abstract:CsPbX3 (X = Cl, Br, I) perovskite nanocrystals (NCs) have shown great potential in numerous applications including wide color gamut display and lighting. Despite the wonderful luminescence properties, the inherent instability of these NCs hinders their use in practical situations. Herein, we report a facile aqueous-based, ligand-free method to synthesize highly stable CsPbX3 NCs using ZIF-62, a metal–organic framework, as an encapsulation matrix which effectively isolates CsPbX3 from the surrounding. We discovered that the slightly alkaline nature of ZIF-62 facilitates the reaction between water and PbBr2 to form PbBr(OH), which not only passivates the surface defects of the CsPbBr3 NCs but also prevents the perovskite from decomposing or oxidizing at high temperature. Sintering of ZIF-62 can therefore be performed in air at ∼300 °C to completely seal the perovskite within the insulating matrix, resulting in CsPbBr3/ZIF-62 composites exhibiting high stability against polar solvents, heat, light, and ambient humidity. Notably, the composite can maintain its bright luminescence without noticeable degradation in water for more than 2 months. The narrow-band emission and stability of these composites led to the demonstration of white light-emitting diodes with excellent color stability. Without the need for organic solvents during NC synthesis and noble gas ambient during sintering, the strategy proposed here can potentially facilitate the cost-effective, large-scale synthesis of highly stable perovskites which show great promise in commercial applications.

Ultra-stable CsPbBr3 Nanocrystals with Near-Unity Photoluminescence Quantum Yield Via Postsynthetic Surface Engineering

Abstract:Lead halide perovskite nanocrystals (NCs) have recently attracted intense interest as promising luminophores for optoelectronic devices. However, their extensive applications are still hampered by a high-cost synthesis method and the poor stability and low photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) of NCs. To address these issues, herein, a fast, room-temperature method is adopted to prepare CsPbBr3 NCs with the use of green synthetic solvents. More importantly, we explore an efficient postsynthetic dual-surface-passivation strategy of CsPbBr3 NCs with 1,3-adamantanedicarboxylic acid (ADA) and ZnBr2 ligands, which exhibits near-unity PLQY and ultra-high stability. The theoretical results show that such a remarkable performance stems from efficient passivation of the massive surface defects of CsPbBr3 with ADA and ZnBr2, suppressing the formation of surface nonradiative recombination centers. Besides, we fabricated white light-emitting diodes (WLEDs) based on essentially trap-free CsPbBr3 NCs. The optimal device exhibits a luminous efficiency of up to 68.7 lm W-1 and wide color gamut of 119% of the NTSC standard.

Stable and Bright CsPbX3 Nanocrystals in Metal-Organic Frameworks for White Light-Emitting Diodes

Abstract:The stability of metal halide perovskite (CsPbX3, X = Cl, Br, and I) nanocrystals (NCs) is crucial for their practical applications. In this paper, perovskite NCs were synthesized in situ in lead-based metal-organic frameworks (Pb-MOFs: [Pb2(1,3,5-HBTC)2(H2O)4]·H2O), and we obtained stable and bright luminescence composites with different colors. Namely, CsPbBr3@Pb-MOF composites were created by the in situ growth of CsPbBr3 crystals (NCs) on Pb-MOF, which had high ion resistance, bright photoluminescence (PL), and excellent stability. The composites still had bright luminescence after 11 months of storage. The PL intensity of green-emitting CsPbBr3@Pb-MOF composites was increased compared with as-prepared CsPbBr3 NCs. Bright and stable blue- and red-emitting CsPbX3@Pb-MOF composites were obtained by adjusting the amount of PbX2 (X = Cl, Br, and I) in the synthesis process. These CsPbX3 NCs were homogeneously distributed in Pb-MOF substrates. The growth of CsPbX3 NCs in Pb-MOFs prevented NC aggregation and decreased surface defects against nonradiative recombination during emitting. Thus, the PL lifetime and stability were improved. Furthermore, white light-emission diodes were prepared using three color CsPbX3@Pb-MOF composites with Commission Internationale de I'Eclairage color coordinates of (0.296, 0.316). This result provided an efficient way to overcome the limitation of chemical solution synthesis and improve the stability of CsPbX3 NCs.

Abstract:CsPbI 3 perovskite nanocrystals (NCs) have been identified as promising candidates for optoelectronic devices due to their low bandgap, wide absorption spectrum, and high color purity. However, their practical applications are limited by their vulnerability to transforming into the yellow non-perovskite phase in ambient conditions. In this study, we propose a novel approach to prepare highly stable black-phase CsPbI 3 NCs by passivating them with sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) and anchoring them with flower-like layered europium hydroxide (LEuH). The addition of SDS to CsPbI 3 NCs plays a crucial role in inhibiting defect formation by preventing the ligand from desorbing. Furthermore, LEuH, with its surface OH – groups, effectively anchors the CsPbI 3 NCs onto its nanosheets, preventing their agglomeration. The resulting composite LEuH-SDS-CsPbI 3 nanocomposites exhibit extraordinary environmental stability, maintaining their phase structure even after 60 days of storage under ambient conditions. Additionally, their photoluminescence quantum yield reaches an impressive 95 %. The exceptional luminescence performance of the LEuH-SDS-CsPbI 3 nanocomposites opens up new possibilities for their application in optoelectronic devices. Furthermore, when used in white LEDs, these nanocomposites exhibit excellent luminescence efficiencies, further highlighting their potential for commercial utilization in the field.

Abstract:Zero-dimensional Cs4PbBr6 nanocrystals (NCs) possess attractive photoluminescence (PL) properties and feature facile chemical synthesis, making them promising for application in luminescent materials. However, Cs4PbBr6 remains sensitive to polar solvents and thermal stimuli because of soft ionic nature of Cs4PbBr6 and dynamic behavior of surface ligands. Herein, a strategy controlled by an in situ surface coordination reaction is developed to fabricate stable NCs with a Cs4PbBr6-Zn(moi)2 core-shell structure. It was found that the Cs4PbBr6 surface regulated by the use of 2-mercaptoimidazole (called moi) and the coordination between the -NH group of moi and Zn2+ is critical for the formation of Cs4PbBr6-Zn(moi)2 core-shell NCs. Meanwhile, the thickness of the Zn(moi)2 shell can be facilely controlled by the growth time because of the solubility of moi and Zn(OAc)2·2H2O in ethyl acetate. Compared to bare Cs4PbBr6, Cs4PbBr6-Zn(moi)2 NCs exhibited highly improved polar solvent resistance and thermal stability. By combining the sensitivity of Cs4PbBr6 and the stability of Cs4PbBr6-Zn(moi)2, we used two NCs as PL security inks to fabricate optical anticounterfeiting labels. Thus, the disposable or reusable optical anticounterfeiting label is achieved by changing the external dual-stimuli. This work provides a novel strategy to enhance the stability of Cs4PbBr6 and develop its potential interest for application in anticounterfeiting technologies.

Abstract:All inorganic lead halide perovskite nanocrystals (PNCs) typically suffer from poor stability against moisture and UV radiation as well as degradation during thermal treatment. The stability of PNCs can be significantly enhanced through polymer encapsulation, often accompanied by a decrease of photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) due to the loss of highly dynamic oleylamine/oleic acid (OLA/OA) ligands. Herein, we propose a solution for this problem by utilizing partially hydrolyzed poly(methyl methacrylate) (h-PMMA) and highly branched poly(ethylenimine) (b-PEI) as double ligands stabilizing the PNCs already during the mechanochemical synthesis (grinding). The hydrophobic polymer of h-PMMA imparts excellent film-forming properties and water stability to the resulting NC-polymer composite. In its own turn, the b-PEI forms an amino-rich, strongly binding ligand layer on the surface of the PNCs being responsible for the significant improvement of the PLQY and the stability of the resulting material. Moreover, the introduction of b-PEI promotes a partial phase conversion from CsPbBr3 to CsPb2Br5 to obtain CsPbBr3/CsPb2Br5 nanocrystals with a core-shell-like structure. As-prepared PNCs solutions are directly processable as inks, while their PLQY drops only slightly from 75% in colloidal solution to 65% in films. Moreover, the final PNC-polymer film exhibits excellent stability against water, heat, and ultraviolet light irradiation. These superior properties allowed us to fabricate a proof of concept thin film OLED with h-PMMA/b-PEI-stabilized PNCs as an easily processable, narrowly emitting color conversion composite material.
