Abstract:A hybrid material composed of high density graphene/nickel oxide (RG/NiO) has been prepared by microwave-assisted in situ method of NiO at the defects of graphene. Graphene (RG) is obtained by thermal expansion of graphite oxide (GO). Graphene/nickel oxide composite is prepared by hydrothermal synthesis of aqueous mixture of RG and Ni(NO3)(2), followed by microwave irradiation of the hydrothermal synthesis product. SEM and TEM images show that NiO with size of 20-50 nm are uniformly distributed on the RG substrate. RG/NiO composite electrodes exhibit good electrochemical performance with a maximum specific capacitance of 617 F g(-1) at the charge/discharge current density of 1 A g(-1) with 5 M NaOH electrolyte. After 5000 cycling DC tests, a high level specific capacitance of 613 F g(-1) is obtained (99.4% retention of the initial capacity), suggesting excellent long-term cycling stability. Rapid Synthesis of Mn-Doped NiFe2O4 Nanosheet Arrays for High-Performance Hybrid Supercapacitors

Abstract:This research presents an innovative approach to the in-situ fabrication of Mn-doped NiFe2O4 (Mn-NiFe2O4) nanosheet arrays directly on nickel foam substrates. The formation of precursors on the nickel foam substrates is achieved through spontaneous corrosion, followed by a thermal treatment to form the Mn-NiFe2O4 nanosheet arrays. The material's structure and morphology were thoroughly examined, revealing that the addition of Mn transforms the nanoporous structure on the nickel foam into a nanosheet structure. The average thickness of the nanosheets is 30 nm, and their primary composition is Mn-doped NiFe2O4. The resulting highly porous structure of these nanosheets provides numerous active sites and effective electron and ion diffusion channels, thereby increasing charge density and mechanical stability. Electrochemical assays show that the areal-specific capacity of the synthesized electrode material reaches 4.34 C cm(-2) (areal-specific capacitance is 8.68 F cm(-2)) at 1 mA cm(-2). Notably, the constructed hybrid supercapacitor achieves a power density of 544 mu W cm(-2) at an energy density of 390 mu Wh cm(-2). Furthermore, capacitance retention is 95.2% after 5000 charging cycles. Additionally, the assembled device delivers robust and sustained energy output for LED displays and electric toy cars. This method streamlines the production flow of electrode materials, reducing energy consumption while significantly enhancing the areal capacitance of supercapacitors. The assembled hybrid supercapacitor structure diagram and the assembled devices provide power sources for electric toy cars and LED displays.

Abstract:Transition-metal selenide electrodes have recently attracted increasing interest in supercapacitors resulting from their superior electrochemical performance, lower-cost, and environmental friendliness. Herein, we report a novel bimetallic Ni-Co selenide nanosheet/three-dimensional (3D) graphene/nickel foam binder-free electrode (NiCo2.1Se3.3 NSs/3D G/NF) prepared via chemical vapor deposition followed by a simple two-step hydrothermal process in this paper. The NiCo2.1Se3.3 NSs array vertically on 3D G/NF with a uniform and stable structure without using any chemical binders. This novel electrode is flexible, highly conductive, and exhibits an excellent specific capacitance of ∼742.4 F g-1 at 1 mA cm-2. Furthermore, with a 10-fold increase to 10 mA cm-2, it still retains 471.78 F g-1 and a high cycling stability of ∼83.8% of the initial retention after 1000 cycles at 10 mA cm-2, demonstrating that NiCo2.1Se3.3 NSs/3D G/NF binder-free electrode has potential for energy storage application in high-performance supercapacitor fields.

Abstract:One of the key challenges for pseudocapacitive electrode materials with highly effective capacitance output and future practical applications is how to rationally construct hierarchical and ordered hybrid nanoarchitecture through the simple process. Herein, we design and synthesize a novel NiMn-layered double hydroxide nanosheet@Ni 3 S 2 nanorod hybrid array supported on porous nickel foam via a one-pot hydrothermal method. Benefited from the ultrathin and rough nature, the well-defined porous structure of the hybrid array, as well as the synergetic effect between NiMn-layered double hydroxide nanosheets and Ni 3 S 2 nanorods, the as-fabricated hybrid array-based electrode exhibits an ultrahigh specific capacitance of 2703 F g −1 at 3 A g −1 . Moreover, the asymmetric supercapacitor with this hybrid array as a positive electrode and wood-derived activated carbon as a negative electrode demonstrates high energy density (57 Wh Kg −1 at 738 W Kg −1 ) and very good electrochemical cycling stability.

Abstract:Herein, porous NiCo2S4/CNTs nanocomposites were synthesized via a simple hydrothermal method followed by the sulphurization process using different sulfide sources. By comparing two different sulfur sources, the samples using thioacetamide as sulfide source delivered more remarkable electrochemical performance with a high specific capacitance of 1765 F g−1 at 1 A g−1 and an admirable cycling stability with capacitance retention of 71.7% at a high current density of 10 A g−1 after 5000 cycles in 2 M KOH aqueous electrolyte. Furthermore, an asymmetric supercapacitor (ASC) device was successfully fabricated with the NiCo2S4/CNTs electrode as the positive electrode and graphene as the negative electrode. The device provided a maximum energy density of 29.44 W h kg−1 at a power density of 812 W kg−1. Even at a high power density of 8006 W kg−1, the energy density still reaches 16.68 W h kg−1. Moreover, the ASC presents 89.8% specific capacitance retention after 5000 cycles at 5 A g−1. These results reveal its great potential for supercapacitors in electrochemical energy storage field.

Abstract:Nickel Cobalt Hydroxide (NCH) has attracted increasing interests due to its pseudo-capacitive performance. However, its low conductivity and poor cycling performance have still restricted its practical application. Herein, we report a NCH nanosheets (NSs)/graphene/nickel foam (NCH NSs/G/NF) composite electrode prepared by chemical vapor deposition (CVD) followed by a facile hydrothermal process. No alkali, organic solvent and chemical binders were used in the preparation process. The as-prepared NCH NSs/G/NF composite electrode exhibits a significantly enhanced specific capacitance of 2854.9 F g−1 at 1 A g−1 and a rate performance of 2023.5F g−1 at 10 A g−1 with a retained ~81.3% initial capacitance after 3000 charging/discharging cycles at 30 A g−1. The high capacitive performance is mainly attributed to the high specific area and the significantly improved electrical conductive property by the well conductive three-dimensional network and the NCH NSs structure. The results have provided a new way for improving the capacitive performance of NCH electrode and promoting its supercapacitor applications.

Abstract:In this work, graphene nanosheets (rGNS) were prepared by rapidly reducing graphene oxide (GO) at room temperature. The cobalt organic framework (Co-MOF) was etched with nickel nitrate, and nickel–cobalt layered double hydroxides (NiCo-LDH)/rGNS was synthesized using rGNS as the growth substrate. Scanning electron microscopy shows that the material grows in a morphology of granular particles on the rGNS substrate. A three-electrode system was used to study the electrochemical properties of the material. Adjusting the reaction time of ion exchange can greatly improve the electrochemical performance of the materials. The results show that the performance of the materials is optimal when the reaction time is 120 min. The specific capacitance of NiCo-LDH/rGNS at 1 A/g reaches 2179 F/g, which is about twice that of NiCo-LDH, and only reduced by 19% at 10 A/g. When the reaction lasted for 120 min, NiCo-LDH/rGNS still maintained 88% of the initial specific capacitance after 3000 cycles. The strategy of the electrode material is fast, low consumption, and has good electrochemical performance. It is expected to become a potential application material for commercial applications.

Abstract:In this work, the hybrid structure of NiCo2S4 nanosheets onto graphitized carbon microspheres (GCMS@NiCo2S4) electrode material has been rationally fabricated by using a rapid, facile, and efficient strategy, and the synergistic effect of NiCo2S4 and GCMS on the enhanced supercapacitors performance is explored. The GCMS@NiCo2S4 electrode with capacitive dominated feature exhibited a high specific capacitance (1595.1 F g(-1) at 1 A g(-1)) and as well as excellent cyclic stability (92% retention after 5000 cycles), which were higher than these of the electrode without GCMS (i.e. pure NiCo2S4). Charge storage analysis reveals that the capacitive dominated feature of GCMS@NiCo2S4 electrode is observed. Additionally, the as-synthesized asymmetric supercapacitor by using GCMS@NiCo2S4 electrode displays a maximum specific energy of 50.2 Wh kg(-1) at a specific power of 799.9 W kg(-1), together with good cyclic life with 91% capacity retention over 10000 cycles at 10 A g(-1). These remarkable electrochemical performances demonstrate that GCMS@NiCo2S4 has excellent potential applications in high efficient electrochemical supercapacitor.

Abstract:In this contribution, nickel oxide (NiO) nanoflakes/graphene (NiO/G) nanocomposites have been prepared by a simple hydrothermal method followed by a thermal treatment with N-2 gas. NiO nanoflakes (similar to 30-80 nm in diameter) are uniformly anchored on graphene sheets in a layer-by-layer form, which effectively prevents the aggregation of NiO nanoflakes and offers two-dimensional (2D) diffusion channels for the transportation of electrons and ions. Compared to bare NiO nanoflakes, the NiO/G composite electrode exhibits improved electrochemical properties. The specific capacitances of the NiO/G electrode are 240 F g(-1) at 5 A g(-1) and 220 F g(-1) at 10 A g(-1), which are much higher than those of the NiO electrode (i.e., 100 F g(-1) at 5 A g(-1) and 90 F g(-1) at 10 A g(-1)). In addition, the synergistic effect from this hybrid structure has led to the significantly improved cycling stability of the NiO/G supercapacitor, which exhibits a superior cycling stability of 100-120% retention of specific capacitance after 1500 cycles. This approach may advance the design and implementation of hybrid nanostructures in high-performance reversible supercapacitors.

Abstract:NiO is a promising electrode material for supercapacitors. Herein, the novel vertically standing nanosized NiO encapsulated in graphene layers (G@NiO) are rationally designed and synthesized as nanosheet arrays. This unique vertical standing structure of G@NiO nanosheet arrays can enlarge the accessible surface area with electrolytes, and has the benefits of short ion diffusion path and good charge transport. Further, an interconnected graphene conductive network acts as binder to encapsulate the nanosized NiO particles as core-shell structure, which can promote the charge transport and maintain the structural stability. Consequently, the optimized G@NiO hybrid electrodes exhibit a remarkably enhanced specific capacity up to 1073 C g(-1) and excellent cycling stability. This study provides a facial strategy to design and construct high-performance metal oxides for energy storage.

Abstract:Graphene was prepared by using the plant stem as a biotemplate through high temperature carbonization and Mn3O4/graphene composites were then prepared via a simple hydrothermal process. The surface morphology and structure of the Mn3O4/graphene hybrids were characterized by X-ray diffraction spectroscopy (XRD), Raman spectra, field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), high resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), X-ray photoelectron spectrogram (XPS), N-2 adsorption-desorption isotherms and electrochemical test. The results showed that the metal oxide nanoparticles were uniformly supported on the surface of graphene. Judging from the XRD, XPS and Raman, we could acquire that the Mn3O4 nanoparticle was in the crystal form while the average crystallite size was about 21 nm. The composites exhibited excellent specific capacitance as high as 196 F/g and the capacitance of the composites was 88% retained after 1000 cycles in 1 M Na2SO4 electrolyte at a charging rate of 2 A/g. The superior electrochemical properties could be due to the improved accessible area for ions in electrolytes and enhanced conductivities. The present study provides a facile way to design a high-performance Mn3O4/graphene based supercapacitor electrode and the concept is extendable to other pseudo capacitive electrodes.
Graphene homogeneously anchored with Ni(OH)2 nanoparticles as advanced supercapacitor electrodes

Abstract:A green and facile approach was demonstrated to prepare graphene nanosheet/Ni(OH)(2) (GNS/Ni(OH)(2)) composites for supercapacitor materials. GNSs as a support material can offer moderate active sites for the nucleation of Ni(OH)(2), as well as an excellent electron transfer path. Then, ultrafine Ni(OH)(2) nanoparticles were homogeneously anchored onto the surface of GNSs as spacers to ensure the high electrochemical utilization of the graphene layers and supply the open nano-channels for shortening the ion diffusion pathway. The results show that the GNS/Ni(OH)(2) composites exhibit a superior specific capacitance of 1985.1 F g(-1) and excellent cycle life with a loss of specific capacitance of only 6.5% after 500 cycles. The improved high electrochemical performance is attributed to the increased electrode conductivity in the presence of the graphene network and the increased effective interfacial area caused by the well-dispersed Ni(OH)(2) on the GNSs.

Abstract:High-performance of supercapacitors mainly depends on their electrode active materials. Herein, the surface morphology and performance of nickel sulfide (NiS) have been engineered by doping with manganese (Mn). The Mn-NiS nanostructure was synthesized using a facile co-precipitation technique. The feeding ratio of Mn/Ni has a significant impact on the properties. When the Mn/Ni feeding ratio is 1:2, a nanosheet structure is formed and it exhibiting a maximum specific capacitance of 815 g −1 at 2 A −1 and remarkable cycle stability. Besides, oxygen (O) and nitrogen (N) enriched 3D-graphene-like porous activated carbon (ONAC) has been derived from biomass. A hybrid supercapacitor (HSC) is built with Mn-NiS NSs serving as the positive electrode, ONAC as the negative electrode, and PVA/KOH gel as a polymer-gel electrolyte The constructed device has an impressive specific energy of 44.2 W h kg −1 at 825 W kg −1 specific power. The device also showed exceptional cycling durability with specific capacitance retention of 90% after 5000 charge/discharge cycles at 8 A g −1 HSCs, on the other hand, have been successfully lighted by light-emitting diodes (LEDs), displaying greater energy storage performance. Thus, the present work offers a straightforward way to make nanostructure materials with excellent supercapacitor performance.

Nitrogen-doped Graphene/multiphase Nickel Sulfides Obtained by NiC3N3S3 (metallopolymer) Assisted Synthesis for High-Performance Hybrid Supercapacitors

Abstract:Designing a hybrid architecture of electroactive species on the modified graphene sheets is one of the most promising tactics for high-performance supercapacitors. Herein, multiphase nickel sulfides nano-particles (Ni3S2-NiS, abbreviated as Ni-S-1) with abundant edge sites were synthesized by pyrolysis of three-dimensional porous Ni-C3N3S3 complexes, and then the N-doped graphene (NG)/Ni-S-1 hybrid was obtained by an introduction of graphene oxide. The NG/Ni-S-1 hybrid shows the electroactive species-on-sheet architectures and the heteroatom nitrogen doping into graphene. The unique structural composition of the NG/Ni-S-1 hybrid can accelerate the permeation and shorten the diffusion length of electrolyte ions, to perform favorable electrochemical charge storage kinetics. Remarkably, compared with Ni-S-1 electrode, the NG/Ni-S-1 hybrid electrode delivers an improved specific capacity of 732.1 C g(-1) at 1 A g(-1) and an excellent rate capability, which are attributed to more accessible surfaces and enhanced electron-transport capacity due to the integration of NG matrix. Furthermore, a hybrid supercapacitor assembled using the NG/Ni-S-1 hybrid as positive electrode and activated carbon (AC) as negative electrode demonstrates a high energy density of 40.2 Wh kg(-1), high power density of 7.4 kW kg(-1), and relatively good electrochemical stability. Abstract:Binary metal sulfide@ graphene composites have held great promising as electrode materials for supercapacitors (SCs). However, synthesis of nanosized binary metal sulfides that uniformly distribute on graphene in a simple way is still an enormous challenge. Herein we report a one-step solvothermal method employing poly (acrylic acid) (PAA) additive to fabricate well-dispersed nickel-cobalt sulfide nanoparticles on graphene (marked as NiCo-S@ G) used in both traditional and flexible supercapacitors. The Ni-Co-S@ G traditional electrode exhibits high specific capacitance at high rate (1021 F g(-1) at 20 A g(-1)) and high capacitance retention (92.1% after 5000 cycles at 10 A g(-1)). Such outstanding performances are benefited from its unique integrated nanostructure which offers rich electroactive surface sites as well as favourable conductivity. Furthermore, asymmetric supercapacitor (ASC) of Ni-Co-S@ G//reduced graphene hydrogels (RGH) delivers high energy density (39.5 Wh kg(-1) at power density of 1778 W kg(-1)) as well as excellent cycle stability (84.4% capacitance retention after 15,000 cycles). Besides, binder-free flexible electrode with satisfied electrochemical properties was successfully fabricated by directly growing Ni-Co-S@ G on active carbon fibre cloth (ACC). The microstructures and morphologies of products were subsequently characterized by XRD, FE-SEM, AFM and UV-Vis adsorption spectra. The performances of super-capacitor were characterized using cyclic voltammetry and constant current charge-discharge tests. The experimental results indicated that the as-prepared GNS possessed fair crystalline state and admirable aqueous dispersibility. An electrode prepared from GNS exhibited a specific capacitance of 75 F/g at a current density of 500 mA/g in 3 mol/L KOH electrolyte. Moreover, the GNS showed excellent electrochemical cycle performance.

Abstract:We report a novel Ni3S2 carbon coated (denoted as NCC) rod-like structure prepared by a facile one-pot hydrothermal method and employ it as a binder free electrode in supercapacitor. We coated carbon with glucose as carbon source on the surface of samples and investigated the suitable glucose concentration. The as-obtained NCC rod-like structure demonstrated great performance with a huge specific capacity of 657 C g−1 at 1 A g−1, preeminent rate capability of 87.7% retention, the current density varying to 10 A g−1, and great cycling stability of 76.7% of its original value through 3500 cycles, which is superior to the properties of bare Ni3S2. The result presents a facile, general, viable strategy to constructing a high-performance material for the supercapacitor applications.

Abstract:Abstract A mesoporous NiO@graphite paper with multilayered nanosheet wall structures (M- NiO@GP) was synthesized through a facile and low-cost hydrothermal reaction and thermal annealing process. The as-prepared M-NiO@GP electrode presents high specific capacitance (2.57 F cm−2), exhibits superior cyclic stability (92.3% capacitance retention after 10000 chargedischarge cycles) and brilliant rate capability (about 56.0% capacitance retention when the current density increased 20 times). Such high-performance capacitive behavior is attributed to the wall structure of NiO with the multilayer nanosheets, which could shorten the ion transfer distance. Meanwhile, the high specific surface area and mesoporous structure of the electrode could serve as an efficient path for OH− transfer and diffusion. The improved electrical conductivity of the electrode enabled stable and efficient electron transports and consequently improved the overall electrochemical performance of supercapacitors. Therefore, the demonstrated high conductive M-NiO@GP electrode is a promising candidate for practical supercapacitor applications.

Abstract:A high performance electrode material for supercapacitors is achieved by incorporating 20-30 nm Ni (OH)(2) nanoflakes into a highly porous CNT/rGO hybrid framework. The Ni(OH)(2)/CNT/rGO nanocomposite delivers a high specific capacitance of 633 F g (-1) at 1 A g(-1) based on the total mass of the composite, implying favorable charge transfer reactions. Even at 10 A g(-1), 65% of the capacitance can be retained, demonstrating impressive high-rate performance. Remarkable cyclic performance was also delivered, with capacitance retention of 80% after 3000 cycles at 2 A g(-1). The remarkable power capability and cycle stability was attributed to the rational design, homogenous microstructure and consequent synergistic effect generated in the composite. The simple and scalable one-pot synthesis procedure can be extended to fabrication of other high performance energy storage materials. (C) 2017 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
