Abstract:The original image bit width of a cooled thermal imaging camera is 14Bit. 14Bit has a wider grayscale range, higher accuracy, and more image details compared to 8Bit, but the maximum grayscale range that can be displayed by a general display is 8Bit, so the original image data of 14Bit needs to be compressed effectively. In this paper, we propose an image compression and display algorithm based on guided image filtering (GIF). First, the image is layered using guided image filtering, i.e., the base layer and the detail layer. Then the adaptive platform histogram equalization (APHE) process is applied to the base layer to improve the contrast of the image; the adaptive detail enhancement is applied to the detail layer to enhance the details while reducing the noise. Finally, the images processed separately after layering are linearly fused to achieve dynamic compression and detail enhancement of high Bit images. Through simulation and comparison experiments with commonly used algorithms, as well as comprehensive comparison of visual effects and quantitative evaluation parameters, the proposed algorithm in this paper achieves significant improvements in both performance and effectiveness.

Abstract:In order to improve the imaging quality of ghost imaging and solve the problem of high distortion at a low sampling rate, the compressive sensing ghost imaging based on image gradient (IGGI) is proposed. The image gradient can reflect the changes of optical characteristics and carry the edge information of object. In this paper, the principle of compressive sensing ghost imaging is analyzed. And the total variation, the integral of image gradient, is used to optimize the reconstruction process. Simultaneously, the threshold of matching degree is set up to reduce computation load and improve imaging speed. The results of simulation and experiments show that compared with traditional ghost imaging, the IGGI can achieve high-quality images and obtain the edge information of targets at a low sampling rate, which further facilitate the practical application of ghost imaging.

Abstract:We propose an improved Wiener deconvolution filter for high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) images and apply it to an experimental graphite image. The improved filter can simultaneously eliminate the modulation transfer function effects of CCD cameras and reduce noise, thereby confirming its superiority over the general Wiener deconvolution and Wiener denoising filters. In the resulting image, graphene lattices appear. In particular, because of our on-estimation of the noise power spectrum, the vacuum remains naturally smooth and very clear graphene-vacuum boundaries generates. Quantitatively, the signal-to-noise ratio of the filtered image improves by a factor of 3. The proposed method is applicable to very noisy HRTEM images of weak scattering objects, such as few-layer graphene or boron nitride. (c) 2013 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Abstract:In order to improve the imaging quality of ghost imaging and solve the problem of high distortion factor under low sampling ratio, we propose a compressive sensing ghost imaging method based on neighbor similarity (NSGI). The neighbor similarity embodied in the correlation between image pixels contains abundant information regarding the spatial structure of the object. We analyze the principle of compressive sensing ghost imaging and use the neighbor similarity to evaluate undetected targets. According to the principle of greedy algorithm, we adopt the neighbor similarity to optimize the process of image reconstruction, and set up the threshold value of the correlation coefficient to reduce computation load and improve precision. The simulation and experimental results show that compared with the traditional ghost imaging, NSGI can obtain high-quality images based on a low sampling frequency, which will further facilitate the practical application of ghost imaging.

Abstract:Ghost imaging is an indirect system that allows the imaging of an object without directly seeing the object. The speckle pattern that contains the information about light and objects has increasingly become a popular topic in pseudothermal light ghost imaging. However, existing research still has encountered problems of poor imaging quality and slow sampling speeds. We propose a ghost imaging method based on N-order speckle patterns to recover the object (NSGI). The N-order speckle patterns combine N independent laser speckles individually produced by passing an expanded and collimated He-Ne laser through a digital micro-mirror device (DMD). The sampling frequency can be improved by controlling the trigger signals of different DMDs. The results of the simulation and experiment have verified that our method can increase sampling speed and reconstruction accuracy. In addition, NSGI can be applied to more applications by designing multiple independent speckles with different properties. (C) 2018 Society of Photo-Optical Instrumentation Engineers (SPIE).

Abstract:Ghost imaging is an unconventional imaging mechanism that utilizes the high-order correlation to reconstruct object's image. Limited by the maximum refresh rate of DMD or SLM, the sampling efficiency of ghost imaging has been a major obstacle for practical application. In this paper, foveated ghost imaging based on deep learning (DPFGI) is proposed to generate non-uniform resolution speckle patterns according to the object detection results as the fovea point. We combine foveated speckle pattern inspired by the human visual system with GAN-based ghost imaging object detection system to realize selecting the region of interest for foveated imaging intelligently. The simulation and experimental results show that DPFGI can detect objects in undersampled images with higher accuracy and achieve higher PSNR in the fovea region compared with uniform-resolution ghost imaging, which opens new perspectives for more intelligent ghost imaging.

Abstract:The point spread function(PSF) of ghost imaging system is investigated.Taking the ghost imaging system of an axial moving target as an example,it's PSF is derived in theory,and the numerical simulation and computer simulation experiment are carried out.Results show that the axial movement of target in signal light path leads to the decrease of imaging quality,and the greater the speed is,the worse the imaging quality will be.The imaging effect can be prejudeged by using the imaging quality of ghost imaging system analyzed with PSF method,which has a great advantage compared with the traditional quality evaluation method.

Abstract:Ghost imaging (GI) can reconstruct the image of an object when the light traveling from the object to the detector is scattered or distorted. It is usually used in complicated environments, where the environmental light may heavily impact measurement. However, the traditional GI algorithm will be seriously affected if the environmental light changes during the measurement. In this paper, we analyze the frequency of environmental light and the light source, and introduce a digital filtering method that can improve the image quality of the traditional GI algorithm. Compared to the traditional GI algorithm, the digital filtering method can obtain an image even if the environmental light changes seriously.

Abstract:Improving imaging quality and reducing time consumption are the key problems that need to be solved in the practical application of ghost imaging. Hence, we demonstrate a double filter iterative ghost imaging method, which adopts the joint iteration of projected Landweber iterative regularization and double filtering based on block matching three dimensional filtering and guided filtering to achieve high-quality image reconstruction under low measurement and low iteration times. This method combines the advantages of ill-posed problem solution of projected Landweber iterative regularization with double filtering joint iterative de-noising and edge preservation. The numerical simulation results show that our method outperforms the comparison method by 4 to 6 dB in terms of peak signal-to-noise ratio for complex binary target 'rice' and grayscale target 'aircraft' after 1500 measurements. The comparison results of experiments and numerical simulations using similar aircraft targets show that this method is superior to the comparison method, especially in terms of richer and more accurate edge detection results. This method can simultaneously obtain high quality reconstructed image and edge feature information under low measurement and iteration times, which is of great value for the practical application fields of imaging and edge detection at the same time, such as intelligent driving, remote sensing and other fields.

Abstract:Image deconvolution problem is a challenging task in the field of image process. In this paper, an improved wiener filtering algorithm is proposed to accurately restore the degraded image of optical sparse aperture systems (OSAS). Differing from Wiener filter which needs to estimate the ratio of power spectrum of noise to power spectrum of original image, our algorithm analyzes the relationship between restored image and original image with the change of this ratio. Based on our algorithm, an optimum restored image in which the ring effect and smoothing effect are able to achieve a perfect balance can be gotten without additional estimation. Moreover, in the case of application to OSAS, several main factors which affect the restored image are expounded. Thus, applying this algorithm to image restoration of OSAS would be of great convenience.

Abstract:Detector noise has a significantly negative impact on ghost imaging at low light levels, especially for existing recovery algorithm. Based on the characteristics of the additive detector noise, a method named modified compressive sensing ghost imaging is proposed to reduce the background imposed by the randomly distributed detector noise at signal path. Experimental results show that, with an appropriate choice of threshold value, modified compressive sensing ghost imaging algorithm can dramatically enhance the contrast-to-noise ratio of the object reconstruction significantly compared with traditional ghost imaging and compressive sensing ghost imaging methods. The relationship between the contrast-to-noise ratio of the reconstruction image and the intensity ratio (namely, the average signal intensity to average noise intensity ratio) for the three reconstruction algorithms are also discussed. This noise suppression imaging technique will have great applications in remote-sensing and security areas.

Abstract:We propose a new local-binary ghost imaging by using point-by-point method. This method can compensate the degradation of imaging quality due to the loss of information during binarization process. The numerical and experimental results show that the target details can be reconstructed well by this method when compared with traditional ghost imaging. By comparing the differences of the speckle patterns from different binarization methods, we also give the corresponding explanation. Our results may have the potential applications in areas with high requirements for imaging details, such as target recognition.

Abstract:The effect of the ratio of black speckles on computational ghost imaging has been investigated. However, the experimental results are inconsistent with the existing theoretical results. During the imaging process with strong background noise, the image quality is not optimal when the black speckle ratio is 50%. On the contrary, the experimental results indicate that increasing the black speckle ratio can enhance the contrast-to-noise ratio and reduce the correlation calculation time. This phenomenon occurs because, as the black speckle ratio increases, the higher probability of the number of white speckles passing through the object to be imaged deviates from the statistical average, leading to a decrease in the average photocurrent received by the bucket detector and an increase in the variability of the photocurrent. This change is beneficial for improving the imaging quality with background noise.

Abstract:High-quality computational ghost imaging under low sampling rates has always attracted much attention and plays an important role in practical applications. In this paper, a novel optical field optimization method based on multi-scale light fields singular value decomposition which can greatly reduce the number of computational ghost imaging measurements is proposed. The computational ghost imaging measurement matrix is derived from the components obtained by singular value decomposition of self-designed special measurement matrices. When the measurement matrix is fully sampled, high-quality reconstructed image can be obtained. Similarly, when the measurement matrix is under-sampled, it is still possible to obtain high-quality reconstructed image and show the performance of multi-resolution imaging. Simulation and experimental results show that our method can obtain high-quality computational ghost imaging, even at low sampling rates, and as the number of splicing matrices increases, the number of measurements is further reduced.

Abstract:Most ghost imaging reconstruction algorithms require a large measurement time to retrieve the object information clearly. But not all groups of data play a positive role in reconstructing the object image. Abandoning some redundant data can not only enhance the quality of reconstruction images but also speed up the computation process. Here, we propose a method to screen the data using two threshold values set by a proportional parameter during the sampling process. Experimental results show that the reserved data after screening can be used in several reconstruction algorithms, and the reconstruction quality is enhanced or at least remains at the same level. Meanwhile, the computing time costs are greatly reduced, and so is the data storage.

Abstract:An optimization of the Canny edge detector’s application in ghost imaging is presented. Based on the pseudo-thermal light ghost imaging scheme with a binary object, a thin and accurate edge map can be extracted by using a Gaussian-filtering-optimized Canny edge detector. The scale of the Gaussian filter in Canny edge detection algorithm is the dominate factor in the performance of the edge detector, and can be evaluated by the bit error rate of reconstructed binary image based on the edge map. Simulation results indicate the optimal window size of Gaussian filter for ghost imaging is proportional to the full width at half maximum of the self-correlation function in the idler arm samples without any priori knowledge of the object. Experimental results show that, with an appropriate Gaussian filter, the reconstructed binary image can approach the original binary object with the minimum bit error rate, which means the edge detection result is optimal.

Abstract:A three-dimensional (3D) distance-weighted Wiener filtering, which takes the characteristics of Poisson noise into account as well as the frequency-distance relationship of projection data, is described and evaluated. The task of spatial filtering on Poisson noise can be greatly simplified without the estimation of noise-power spectrum by first applying the Anscombe transformation to the projection data, which converts Poisson distributed noise into Gaussian distributed one with constant variance. By extending the stationary-phase condition and frequency-distance relationship (derived from the noise-free 2D sinogram) into 3D situation, we obtain a weighting function in frequency domain which is only dependent on the distance of an interested point source from the object center. Since the Anscombe transformation only changes the distribution of projection data, not the pixel location, a distance-variant weighting window for the Anscombe transformed data is derived and incorporated into the Wiener filter. Considering the regions with higher signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) receive greater weight in the estimation of signal-power spectrum, the proposed filter optimizes the data used to estimate the power spectrum of observed data and thus produces a better spatial resolution. Simulation and experimental results show improved noise reduction, especially in the peripheral regions, as compared with conventional filtering methods.
