One of the most urgent objectives is to predict the H-mode power threshold not only for ITER but also for future fusion devices. Recently, many devices focused on the L-H transition physics at marginal threshold power. This paper reports the phenomenon of multi-transitions between Intermediate confinement phase (I-phase) and H-mode in HL-2A. With marginal power (1MW NBI auxiliary heating) of L-H transition, alternative transition has been observed between the H-mode (without ELM) and the I-phase (with LCOs [2]) in HL-2A. For I-phase, the LCOs cause an additional particle loss. The analyses indicate that the event limits the continuous increase of the pedestal density gradient and decreases the core impurity density. Then it transits to H-mode owing to the gradually increasing pressure gradient. Compared to the I-phase, the pedestal electron density and temperature increase obviously during the ELM-free phase. And the turbulence intensity measured in the pedestal region (r/a~0.9) is strongly reduced. Meanwhile the particle flux measured in the SOL is significantly reduced. The SOL particle flux measurement indicates that an additional particle loss is caused by a core coherent mode (f~20kHz) during the ELM-free phase. However, the favorable regime is only sustained for about 10ms and then is terminated by a drastic increasing radiation loss due to the accumulation of the core impurity. From the alternative evolutions of the relevant parameters, the results indicate that a favorable quiescent H-mode should have an enhanced particle transport which not only limits pressure gradient increase but also reduces core impurity accumulation.
