Abstract:A Ru-catalyzed intermolecular silylation of unreactive, aliphatic C(sp(3))-H bonds has been described for the first time. This protocol features low catalyst loading, a relatively broad substrate spectrum, good functional group tolerance, and no sensitivity to air, which provides a convenient and practical pathway for the construction of C-Si bonds.

Abstract:Rh(III)-catalyzed C(sp(3)) - H bond aminocarbonylation of 8-methylquinolines and isocyanates has been realized under mild conditions. This approach is applicable to different aryl and alkyl isocyanates, leading to the synthesis of various alpha-quinolinyl amide compounds in moderate to excellent yields. A plausible mechanism for this transformation is proposed according to the experimental results obtained.

Abstract:A Cp*Rh-III-catalyzed annulative carbooxygenation of challenging 1,1-disubstituted alkenes triggered by C-H activation of N-aryloxyacetamides has been established, which affords 2,3-dihydrobenzofuran derivatives with a quaternary carbon center in good to excellent yields under mild redox-neutral conditions. An amide group on the alkenes is essential for the process, and may inhibit the beta-H elimination from C(sp3)-Rh species by saturating the rhodium center through coordination. Furthermore, mechanistic insights obtained from control experiments suggest a mechanism involving a Rh-III-Rh-V-Rh-III catalytic cycle.

Abstract:Silacyclobutane was discovered to be an efficient C−H bond silylation reagent. Under the catalysis of Rh I /TMS‐segphos, silacyclobutane undergoes sequential C−Si/C−H bond activations, affording a series of π‐conjugated siloles in high yields and regioselectivities. The catalytic cycle was proposed to involve a rarely documented endocyclic β‐hydride elimination of five‐membered metallacycles, which after reductive elimination gave rise to a Si−Rh I species that is capable of C−H activation.

Abstract:The signature reactivity of silacyclobutane (SCB) is their cycloaddition reactions with various π bonds. Recently we disclosed the first cases where SCBs reacted with both C sp2 -H and C sp3 -H σ bonds in an intramolecular fashion. Herein, we report that SCB is also an efficient reagent for C sp -H bond silylation. Thus, rhodium catalysed intermolecular reactions between SCBs and terminal alkynes produced a series of symmetrical and unsymmetrical tetraorganosilicons bearing a C sp -Si functionality. Our preliminary studied suggested that the reaction did not involve a cycloaddition pathway, but instead a direct activation of C sp -H bonds.

Abstract:Addition of interelement compounds across alkynes is a straightforward strategy for the synthesis of densely functionalized alkenes, which are versatile units in numerous biologically active compounds. Of these processes the bis-silylation of alkynes is of particular interest, due to the synthetic use of the alkenyl silane reaction products. While cis -bis-silylation of alkynes is well known, trans -bis-silyation of alkynes is relatively underdeveloped. Here, we report the intermolecular trans -bis-silylation of terminal alkynes, using Pd-catalysis and disilane reagent 8-(2-substituted-1,1,2,2-tetramethyldisilanyl)quinoline (TMDQ), to selectively form trans -bis-silylated alkenes. The reaction process was found to be compatible with aryl and alkyl alkynes as well as those bearing electron-withdrawing groups and other alkenyl or alkynyl functionalities. The use of the reaction was displayed through late-stage functionalization of terminal alkynes bearing natural product or drug motifs and onward synthetic transformations of the trans -bis-silylated alkenes reaction products. Experimental and computational mechanistic studies reveal that the reaction probably proceeds through a combined cis -bis-silylation and Z / E isomerization process and that the use of TMDQ as the limiting reagent is key to the desired reactivity.

Abstract:A highly efficient rhodium-catalyzed asymmetric hydrosilylation of aldehydes, ketones, and alpha,beta-unsaturated ketones with dihydrosilanes is developed, that allows the rapid assembly of a variety of Si-stereogenic alkoxysilanes and silyl enol ethers in good yields and enantioselectivities under mild conditions. The applicability of this methodology was demonstrated by a series of stereospecific transformations to construct diverse Si-stereogenic derivatives.

Abstract:Siloles represent an important emerging class of photoluminescent materials. Reported herein is a new synthetic strategy involving a tandem cyclization/Si-C activation reaction featuring high efficiency, wide substrate scope, and practical utility. This method enabled the first synthesis of benzofuran siloles as well as rapid access to conjugated siloles. During the course of the study we also uncovered an unusual yet general Si-C(sp(2)) activation in the presence of π acids.

Abstract:Disilylation of alkynes could provide rapid entry to synthetically useful 1,2-bissilyl-alkenes, but is currently limited to activated disilanes reacting in an intramolecular fashion. Reported herein is an efficient rhodium(I)-catalyzed intermolecular disilylation of a wide array of alkynones with unactivated disilanes. Importantly, this reaction produces exclusively trans-disilylation products, selectivity that has been rarely reported. These disilylation products were transformed into interesting pentacyclic vinyl silane ethers, among other additional synthetic manipulations. Mechanistic studies uncovered that the unactivated disilanes underwent facile Si-Si activation and crossover under the reaction conditions.

Abstract:Asymmetric ring-expansion reactions of silacyclobutanes (SCBs) with alkynes have evolved as one of the powerful protocols for the construction of silicon-stereogenic compounds. However, the achievement of highly enantioselective annulation of SCBs with terminal alkynes remains a challenge. Herein, we report a rhodium-catalyzed asymmetric annulation reaction of SCBs with terminal alkynes, which relies on the newly identified chiral sulfinamide phosphine ligand Ming-Phos. This catalytic system exhibits unique effects under mild conditions, leading to the direct synthesis of structurally diverse chiral silacycles in moderate to good yields with high enantioselectivities (up to 95% ee).

The alkene products were obtained as single E‐configured isomers in good yields. Abstract:Abstract The tremendous success of stereogenic carbon compounds has never ceased to inspire researchers to explore the potentials of stereogenic silicon compounds. Intermolecular C–H silylation thus represents the most versatile and straightforward strategy to construct C–Si bonds, however, its enantioselective variant has been scarcely reported to date. Herein we report a protocol that allows for the enantioselective intermolecular C–H bond silylation, leading to the construction of a wide array of acyclic stereogenic Si–H compounds under simple and mild reaction conditions. Key to the success is (1) a substrate design that prevents the self-reaction of prochiral silane and (2) the employment of a more reactive rhodium hydride ([Rh]-H) catalyst as opposed to the commonly used rhodium chloride ([Rh]-Cl) catalyst. This work unveils opportunities in converting simple arenes into value-added stereogenic silicon compounds.

Abstract:Rh-catalyzed anti-Markovnikov hydrosilylation of terminal alkenes and tertiary silanes using readily-available PPh3 as the ligand was reported. This method facilitated the effective synthesis of alkylsilanes with a wide substrate scope and high yields. Remarkably, both an unprecedented catalytic efficiency (TON up to 10,000) and excellent selectivity for the reaction of styrene and diethoxymethylsilane were achieved.

Abstract:Organosilicon compounds are essential structural units in organic synthesis, materials science, and drug molecule design. Despite significant strides in understanding the intramolecular C(sp 2 )−H/C(sp 3 )−H silylation mechanism, the intermolecular C(sp)−H/O−H silylation processes remain elusive. Here, density functional theory (DFT) calculations have been employed to uncover the mechanisms governing both the Rh/BINAP-catalyzed C(sp)−H silylation of silacyclobutane with alkyne and the O−H silylation of silacyclobutane with H 2 O. Our investigation yielded several crucial insights, including (1) C(sp)−H silylation and O−H silylation undergo a similar catalytic cycle rather than previously proposed different catalytic cycles; (2) the [Rh]−H species resulting from the precatalyst the [Rh]−Cl with silacyclobutane is identified as the real active species; (3) a refined [Rh]−H-catalyzed mechanism involves C−Si bond activation, C−H bond formation, C(sp)−H bond activation of alkyne/σ-bond metathesis of H 2 O, and C−Si bond reductive elimination. Simultaneously, the newly proposed reaction pathway sheds light on why silacyclobutane and alkyne yield distinct products in both the Rh/BINAP and Rh/PPh 3 systems. This discrepancy stems from steric hindrance induced by BINAP during the alkyne migratory insertion step, thereby favoring the Si−Cl bond reductive elimination.

Abstract:A concise hydrosilylation of alkynes for synthesizing β‐(E)‐vinylsilanes catalyzed by dirhodium(II)/XantPhos has been developed. In this reaction, β‐(E)‐vinylsilanes were generated from the isomerization of β‐(Z)‐vinylsilanes catalyzed by dirhodium(II) hydride species rather than the direct insertion of triple bond into M‐H or M‐Si bond (traditional Chalk–Harrod mechanism or modified Chalk‐Harrod mechanism). The hydrosilylation displayed a broad substrate scope for alkynes and tertiary silanes, tolerating diverse functional groups including halides, nitrile, amines, esters, and heterocycles.
