Do Self-efficacy and Competency-Position Fit Determine R&D Employees’ Innovative Behavior? Integrating an Anthropological View

Abstract:AbstractCreativity research in the field of business anthropology has focused on the relationship betweenpersonality and innovative behavior, in business organizations. However, few studies have empirically examinedthe effect of positive personality traits on innovative behavior of Ru0026D staff. The purpose of this paper is toreveal the correlations among self-efficacy, competency-position fit (CPF), and Ru0026D employees’ innovativebehavior, in different work settings. With 328 Ru0026D staff in China participating in the survey, this researchemploys a profile deviation analysis to conduct a comparison between Ru0026D employees working on Ru0026D project,and those in Ru0026D program. The researchers’ findings indicate that the ideal type of Ru0026D employees will performsignificantly better in creativity than non-ideal ones, while self-efficacy and CPF are key factors that facilitateRu0026D staff to achieve outstanding innovative performance.
