Abstract:A hybrid material composed of high density graphene/nickel oxide (RG/NiO) has been prepared by microwave-assisted in situ method of NiO at the defects of graphene. Graphene (RG) is obtained by thermal expansion of graphite oxide (GO). Graphene/nickel oxide composite is prepared by hydrothermal synthesis of aqueous mixture of RG and Ni(NO3)(2), followed by microwave irradiation of the hydrothermal synthesis product. SEM and TEM images show that NiO with size of 20-50 nm are uniformly distributed on the RG substrate. RG/NiO composite electrodes exhibit good electrochemical performance with a maximum specific capacitance of 617 F g(-1) at the charge/discharge current density of 1 A g(-1) with 5 M NaOH electrolyte. After 5000 cycling DC tests, a high level specific capacitance of 613 F g(-1) is obtained (99.4% retention of the initial capacity), suggesting excellent long-term cycling stability. Synthesis of MnO2/N-doped Ultramicroporous Carbon Nanospheres for High-Performance Supercapacitor Electrodes

Abstract:We demonstrate a simple and highly efficient strategy to synthesize MnO 2 /nitrogen-doped ultramicroporous carbon nanospheres（MnO 2 /N-UCNs） for supercapacitor application.MnO 2 /N-UCNs were fabricated via a template-free polymerization of resorcinol/formaldehyde on the surface of phloroglucinol/terephthalaldehyde colloids in the presence of hexamethylenetetramine,followed by carbonization and then a redox reaction between carbons and KMnO 4 .As-prepared MnO 2 /N-UCNs exhibits regular ultramicropores,high surface area,nitrogen heteroatom,and high content of MnO 2 .A typical MnO 2 /N-UCNs with 57 wt.%MnO 2 doping content（denoted as MnO 2 （57%）/N-UCNs） makes the most use of the synergistic effect between carbons and metal oxides.MnO 2 （57%）/N-UCNs as a supercapacitor electrode exhibits excellent electrochemical performance such as a high specific capacitance（401 F/g at 1.0 A/g） and excellent charge/discharge stability（86.3%of the initial capacitance after 10,000 cycles at 2.0 A/g） in 1.0 mol/L Na 2 SO 4 electrolyte.The well-designed and high-performance MnO 2 /N-UCNs highlight the great potential for advanced supercapacitor applications.
Synthesis of NiMn-LDH Nanosheet@Ni 3 S 2 Nanorod Hybrid Structures for Supercapacitor Electrode Materials with Ultrahigh Specific Capacitance

Abstract:One of the key challenges for pseudocapacitive electrode materials with highly effective capacitance output and future practical applications is how to rationally construct hierarchical and ordered hybrid nanoarchitecture through the simple process. Herein, we design and synthesize a novel NiMn-layered double hydroxide nanosheet@Ni 3 S 2 nanorod hybrid array supported on porous nickel foam via a one-pot hydrothermal method. Benefited from the ultrathin and rough nature, the well-defined porous structure of the hybrid array, as well as the synergetic effect between NiMn-layered double hydroxide nanosheets and Ni 3 S 2 nanorods, the as-fabricated hybrid array-based electrode exhibits an ultrahigh specific capacitance of 2703 F g −1 at 3 A g −1 . Moreover, the asymmetric supercapacitor with this hybrid array as a positive electrode and wood-derived activated carbon as a negative electrode demonstrates high energy density (57 Wh Kg −1 at 738 W Kg −1 ) and very good electrochemical cycling stability.

Abstract:The demand for energy storage systems with superior performance has led to the creation of hybrid supercapacitor device. With proper designs, the hybrid supercapacitive materials can achieve high performance while reducing the overall cost. Herein, a novel method is developed for preparing three-dimensional hierarchical graphitic carbon nanocomposites with highly dispersed mixed Co-Ni oxide nanoparticles (Co-Ni-O/3DG) by a facile one-pot process involving carbonization and subsequent oxidation of metal ion doped biopolymer precursors. The mixed metal nanoparticles produced during carbonization enabled a top-down preparation of 3D graphitic carbon nanosheets. The nanocomposites were fully characterized and showed excellent electrochemical performance supported by the DFT calculation. Specific capacitance of 1586 F.g(-1) was achieved (current density 1.0 A.g(-1)), with capacitance retention of 94.5% after 10 000 cycles demonstrating exceptional cycling stability. In an asymmetric full-cell system using a Co-Ni-O/3DG positive electrode, high energy densities of 32.8-54.7 Wh kg(-1) associated with very high power densities of 11358-748.6 W kg(-1) were obtained, comparable to the most advanced contemporary supercapacitive materials, while they also possesses an improved cyclability as well as using biosourced staring materials, underlining the electrode's potential application in hybrid supercapacitor devices.

Abstract:Copper oxide-based nanocomposites are promising electrode materials for high-performance supercapacitors due to their unique properties that aid electrolyte access and ion diffusion to the electrode surface. Herein, a facile and low-cost synthesis in situ strategy based on co-precipitation and incorporation processes of reduced graphene oxide (rGO), followed by in situ oxidative polymerization of aniline monomer has been reported. CuO@Cu 4 O 3 /rGO/PANI nanocomposite revealed the good distribution of CuO@Cu 4 O 3 and rGO within the polymer matrix which allows improved electron transport and ion diffusion process. Galvanostatic charge–discharge (GCD) results displayed a higher specific capacitance value of 508 F g −1 for CuO@Cu 4 O 3 /rGO/PANI at 1.0 A g −1 in comparison to the pure CuO@Cu 4 O 3 278 F g −1 . CuO@Cu 4 O 3 /rGO/PANI displays an energy density of 23.95 W h kg −1 and power density of 374 W kg −1 at the current density of 1 A g −1 which is 1.8 times higher than that of CuO@Cu 4 O 3 (13.125 W h kg −1 ) at the same current density. The retention of the electrode was 93% of its initial capacitance up to 5000 cycles at a scan rate of 100 mV s −1 . The higher capacitance of the CuO@Cu 4 O 3 /rGO/PANI electrode was credited to the formation of a fibrous network structure and rapid ion diffusion paths through the nanocomposite matrix that resulted in enhanced surface-dependent electrochemical properties.

Abstract:In this contribution, nickel oxide (NiO) nanoflakes/graphene (NiO/G) nanocomposites have been prepared by a simple hydrothermal method followed by a thermal treatment with N-2 gas. NiO nanoflakes (similar to 30-80 nm in diameter) are uniformly anchored on graphene sheets in a layer-by-layer form, which effectively prevents the aggregation of NiO nanoflakes and offers two-dimensional (2D) diffusion channels for the transportation of electrons and ions. Compared to bare NiO nanoflakes, the NiO/G composite electrode exhibits improved electrochemical properties. The specific capacitances of the NiO/G electrode are 240 F g(-1) at 5 A g(-1) and 220 F g(-1) at 10 A g(-1), which are much higher than those of the NiO electrode (i.e., 100 F g(-1) at 5 A g(-1) and 90 F g(-1) at 10 A g(-1)). In addition, the synergistic effect from this hybrid structure has led to the significantly improved cycling stability of the NiO/G supercapacitor, which exhibits a superior cycling stability of 100-120% retention of specific capacitance after 1500 cycles. This approach may advance the design and implementation of hybrid nanostructures in high-performance reversible supercapacitors.
The Synergetic Effect Induced High Electrochemical Performance of CuO/Cu2O/Cu Nanocomposites as Lithium-Ion Battery Anodes

Abstract:Due to the high theoretical capability, copper-based oxides were widely investigated. A facile water bath method was used to synthesis CuO nanowires and CuO/Cu 2 O/Cu nanocomposites. Owing to the synergetic effect, the CuO/Cu 2 O/Cu nanocomposites exhibit superior electrochemical performance compared to the CuO nanowires. The initial discharge and charge capacities are 2,660.4 mAh/g and 2,107.8 mAh/g, and the reversible capacity is 1,265.7 mAh/g after 200 cycles at 200 mA/g. Moreover, the reversible capacity is 1,180 mAh/g at 800 mA/g and 1,750 mAh/g when back to 100 mA/g, indicating the excellent rate capability. The CuO/Cu 2 O/Cu nanocomposites also exhibit relatively high electric conductivity and lithium-ion diffusion coefficient, especially after cycling. For the energy storage mechanism, the capacitive controlled mechanism is predominance at the high scan rates, which is consistent with the excellent rate capability. The outstanding electrochemical performance of the CuO/Cu 2 O/Cu nanocomposites indicates the potential application of copper-based oxides nanomaterials in future lithium-ion batteries.

Abstract:CuO nanobelts have been successfully prepared with high yield via a simple hydrothermal reduction process at a low temperature. The as-prepared CuO nanowires were characterized by XRD, SEM, TEM and HRTEM techniques. The growth mechanism of these nanostructures is discussed. The electrochemical tests show that the ultrafine CuO nanobelts, as a promising electrode material, can deliver a large discharge capacity of about 500mAhg−1.

Abstract:Constructing “nanoglue” between inorganic electroactive species and conductive carbon scaffolds is an effective strategy to improve their compatibility and binding interaction, holding a great promise for fabricating high-performance hybrid electrodes for supercapacitors. However, multistep reactions are usually required to obtain these multicomponent systems, thus giving rise to the complicated and time-consuming issues. Herein, we for the first time, demonstrate a green one-pot method to anchor coaxial double-layer MnO2/Ni(OH)2 nanosheets on electrospun carbon nanofibers (CNFs) (denoted as MNC), where the intermediate MnO2 layer serves as the “nanoglue” to couple the vertically aligned Ni(OH)2 nanosheets and conductive CNFs. Benefiting from the unique chemical composition and hierarchical architecture, the resultant electrode delivers outstanding electrochemical performance, including an excellent specific capacitance (1133.3 F g−1 at 1 A g−1) and an ultrahigh rate capability (844.4 F g−1 at 20 A g−1). Moreover, the asymmetric supercapacitor assembled by using the MNC as positive electrode and the CNF as negative electrode can achieve an optimal energy density of 35.1 Wh kg−1 and a maximum power density of 8000 W kg−1. The one-pot strategy that stabilizes electroactive metal hydroxides on conductive carbons using a MnO2 “nanoglue” to design advanced hybrid electrodes is expected to be broadly applicable not only to the supercapacitor technology but also to other electrochemical applications.Graphical abstract

Abstract:Copper-based compounds have attracted increasing attention as electrode materials for rechargeable devices, but their poor conductivity and insufficient stability inhibit their further development. Herein, an effective method has been proposed to improve the electrochemical properties of the copper-based electrodes by coating carbon materials and generating unique micro/nanostructures. The prepared Cu2S/Cu7S4/NC with hierarchical hollow structure possesses excellent electrochemical performance, attributing to the composition and structure optimization. The superior charge storage performance has been assessed by theoretical and experimental research. Specifically, the Cu2S/Cu7S4/NC exhibits remarkably higher electrical conductivity and lower adsorption-free energy for O* and OH* than those of Cu2O. Moreover, the Cu2S/Cu7S4/NC delivers a high specific capacitance of 1261.3 F·g-1 at the current density of 1 A·g-1 and also has great rate performance at higher current densities, which are much better than those of the Cu2O nanocubes. In addition, the assembled hybrid supercapacitor using Cu2S/Cu7S4/NC as the anode exhibits great energy density, power density, and cycling stability. This study has proposed a novel and feasible method for the synthesis of high-performance copper-based electrodes and their electrochemical performance regulation, which is of great significance for the advancement of high-quality electrode materials and rechargeable devices.
ZnO/CoO@NiCoS nanohybrids with double heterogeneous interface for high-performance hybrid supercapacitors

Abstract:Hybrid supercapacitors (HSC) with high power density and long cycle life are received more attention in the field of energy storage devices, however, the wide application of HSC is limited by the low energy density owing to the insufficient active sites and poor electronic conductivity of electrode materials. Here, we successfully synthesize the ZnO/ nanohybrids with double-layer heterojunction by a three-step method. The conductivity of the as-prepared electrode can be improved by the built-in electric field formed between ZnO and CoO. The coating of amorphous NiCoS can provide sufficient active sites and strengthen the physical/chemical stability of ZnO/CoO nanowires. The obtained ZnO/ delivers a high specific capacity of 934 C g−1 (1868 F g−1), which is 5.5 times the pristine ZnO electrode. Furthermore, a HSC with ZnO/ shows an improved power density (3987.7 W kg−1), a high energy density of 39.2 Wh kg−1, and an excellent cycling stability (initial capacity retention rate of 81.7% after 6,000 cycles). This study not only proposes an effective strategy for the preparation of low-cost, deep-discharge electrodes for supercapacitors, but also provides a novel method to construct nanomaterials with double-layer heterostructure and built-in electric field.

Abstract:To meet the requirement of clean and efficient energy storage system for practical applications, supercapacitors (SCs) to be promising candidates for the next‐generation energy storage devices have received tremendous attentions. Herein, a hybrid electrode consisted of copper nanowires (Cu NWs) and carbon nanotubes (CNTs) was prepared by simple vacuum‐filtration method. Both Cu NWs and CNTs have excellent conductivities, high aspect ratios and large surface areas, in which the two kinds of materials are evenly dispersed and are entangled with each other. The electrochemical performance characterization of the Cu@CuO NWs/CNTs hybrid electrode shows high specific capacitance of 1.7 F/cm2 and excellent cycling characteristics of 97.4% after 5000 cycles. The hybrid electrode of Cu@CuO NWs/CNTs with one‐dimensional (1D) structure provides significant advantages in terms of electron/ion transport pathways. These advantages can be attributed to following items: (1) The hybrid electrode of one‐dimensional nanostructure with high aspect ratio does not need using any binders. (2) CuO on the surface of Cu NWs provides pseudocapacitance and CNTs provides double‐layer capacitance, respectively, which is beneficial to the increase of hybrid‐electrode capacitance. (3) The layered structure of the hybrid electrode has large surface area and better contact with the electrolyte. (4) The hybrid of Cu NWs and CNTs enables the integration of active materials and current collectors. The SC devices with excellent electrochemical performance and stability clearly demonstrate their broad applications as low‐cost, high‐performance power supplies for electronic devices.This article is protected by copyright. V2O3 Nanoparticles Confined in High-Conductivity and High-Throughput Carbon Nanofiber Nanohybrids for Advanced Sodium-Ion Capacitors.

Abstract:Electrode materials with high conductivity and high mass transport rate are highly desirable for a variety of electrochemical energy devices but face a grand challenge to be readily prepared yet. Here, we propose the design and preparation of a nanohybrid of V2O3 nanoparticles embedded in a multichannel carbon nanofiber (V2O3@MCNF) network with high conductivity and high mass transport. We demonstrate the V2O3@MCNF shows superior capability for sodium storage with an excellent capacity of 214.3 mA h g-1 even at 5 A g-1, thanks to its high conductivity for electron transfer and facilitated mass transportation endowed by the one-dimensional conductive multichannel fiber structure. Such favorable structures and properties in V2O3@MCNFs enable them to be applied as high-performance anodes of sodium-ion hybrid capacitors (SIHCs), successfully addressing the critical kinetics imbalance between Faradaic anodes and capacitive cathodes for application of SIHCs, which show impressively high energy/power densities along with impressive cycling performance over 10,000 cycles.

Abstract:A ZnFe2O4-nanocrystals/graphene-nanosheets (ZnFe2O4/G) nanohybrid has been prepared by a facile in situ hydrothermal route using Zn(NO3)(2)center dot 6H(2)O, Fe(NO3)(3)center dot 6H(2)O and graphite oxide (GO) as the precursors. Ultrafine ZnFe2O4 nanocrystals (below 10 nm) are confined by the few-layer graphene sheets reduced from GO, forming a unique sheet-like hybrid. In this structure, the direct restacking of the hydrophobic graphene sheets is refrained by loading ZnFe2O4 nanocrystals as the spacers and the aggregation of ZnFe2O4 nanocrystals is inhibited by the dispersing and confining effects of the graphene sheets. ZnFe2O4/G shows excellent rate capability and high-rate cycling stability for lithium storage. It also shows a high capacity when used as an anode for a ZnFe2O4/G-LiFePO4/C full cell.

The morphology and the phase were characterized by TEM and XRD. The electrochemical properties were measured by a three electrode system. Experiments results showed that the crystallinity and grain size of NiO were reduced, while the specific capacitance was remarkably improved after composite with CuO or GO. The specific capacitance of NiO/CuO-0.3/GO-30 was 1451F·g−1 at 1 A·g−1, which was 2.77 times of NiO. After 1000 cycles, the capacitance retention of NiO/CuO-0.3/GO-30 was 82.95% of its initial value, which was 1.07 times of NiO.

Abstract:A nano-network structure is beneficial in obtaining a high specific surface area, which is important in achieving high specific capacitance and energy density. A low-cost and high-yielding preparation approach of nano-network MnO2/polyaniline (MP) composites with enhanced electrochemical properties was developed. Nano-network MnO2/polyaniline composites were synthesized for supercapacitor electrode materials with a high specific surface area of 480m2/g which could largely increase the utilization of MnO2 compared with other bulk or low specific surface area MnO2/polyaniline materials. For nano-network MnO2/polyaniline composites, the highest attainable specific capacitance could reach 497F/g. It also exhibits good cycle stability with the cycle retention of 88.2% after 5000cycles at 10Ag−1.

Abstract:Here, we report a novel Co3O4-graphene hybrid electrode material with high density Co3O4 nanoparticles (NPs) in a size range of 2-3 nm confined in a few-layered porous graphene nanomesh (PGN) framework driven by an electrochemical process. Raman spectra indicate that Co species preferentially anchor on the defective sites of the PGN, which results in markedly reduced irreversible Li storage and therefore significantly enhanced coulombic efficiency. The ultra-small Co3O4 NPs provide a large surface area and a short solid-state diffusion length, which is propitious to achieving a high Li ion capacity at high rate. Also, the few-layered graphene network with high electronic conductivity not only permits easy access to the high surface area of the Co3O4 NPs for the electrolyte ions, but also serves as a reservoir for high capacity Li storage. As a result, the Co3O4-PGN composite layers deliver an ultra-high capacity (1543 mA h g(-1) at 150 mA g(-1)) and excellent rate capability (1075 mA h g(-1) at 1000 mA g(-1)) with good cycling stability.
