Abstract:The molecular engineering of organic hole-transporting materials (HTMs) plays an important role in enhancing the performance and stability of perovskite solar cells (PSCs) as well as reducing their fabrication cost. Here, two low-cost spiro-OMeTAD analogues, namely SP-Naph and SP-SMe, featuring spiro[fluorene-9,9-xanthene] (SFX) central core and asymmetric subunits are designed and synthesized. Specifically, the SFX core in the SP-Naph molecule is substituted with dimethoxyphenylnaphthylamines subunits to enhance conductivity and charge transport properties by expansion π-conjugated structure. On the other hand, in the molecular structure of SP-SMe, the methoxy groups (-OMe) from diphenylamine units were partially replaced with the methylsulfanyl groups (-SMe) to increase interaction with the perovskite surface through the "Lewis soft" S atoms. By combining various experimental and simulation methods, the structure–property relationship of the newly synthesized HTMs was thoroughly investigated. The suitable HOMO energy level with the perovskite layer together with superior photoelectric properties and enhanced thermostability and humidity resistivity are obtained for SP-SMe HTM. As a result, planar n−i−p PSC with dopant-free SP-SMe HTM yields a maximum power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 21.95%, which outperforms that with SP-Naph (20.51%) and doped spiro-OMeTAD (19.23%). Importantly, the device with SP-SMe also reveals enhanced operational stability under continuous 1 sun illumination and thermal stability at 65 C. These findings provide valuable insight for the rational design of dopant-free organic HTMs based on SFX core, which would promote the development of highly efficient and stable devices.

Abstract:In the field of perovskite optoelectronics, developing hole-transporting materials (HTMs) on the spiro[fluorene-9,9'-xanthene] (SFX) platform is one of the current research focuses. The SFX inherits the merits of spirobifluorene in terms of the configuration and property, but it is more easily derivatized and regulated by virtue of its binary structure. In this work, we design and synthesize four isomeric SFX-based HTMs, namely m-SFX-mF, p-SFX-mF, m-SFX-oF, and p-SFX-oF, through varying the positions of fluorination on the peripheral aniline units and their substitutions on the SFX core, and the optoelectronic performance of the resulting HTMs is evaluated in both perovskite solar cells (PSCs) and light-emitting diodes (PeLEDs) by the vacuum thermal evaporating hole-transporting layers (HTLs). The HTM p-SFX-oF exhibits an improved power conversion efficiency of 15.21% in an inverted PSC using CH3NH3PbI3 as an absorber, benefiting from the deep HOMO level and good HTL/perovskite interface contact. Meanwhile, the HTM m-SFX-mF provides a maximum external quantum efficiency of 3.15% in CsPb(Br/Cl)3-based PeLEDs, which is attributed to its perched HOMO level and shrunken band-gap for facilitating charge carrier injection and then exciton combination. Through elucidating the synergistic position effect of fluorination on aniline units and their substitutions on the SFX core, this work lays the foundation for developing low-cost and efficient HTMs in the future.
Fluorine substitution position effects on spiro(fluorene-9,9′-xanthene) cored hole transporting materials for high-performance planar perovskite solar cells

Abstract:Fluorine substitution in molecular design has become an effective strategy for improving the overall performance of organic photovoltaics. In this study, three low-cost small molecules of spiro-linked hole transporting materials (SFX-o-2F, SFX-m-2F, and SFX-p-2F) endowed with two-armed triphenylamine moieties were synthesized via tuning of the fluorine substitution position, and they were employed for use in highly efficient perovskite solar cells (PSCs). Despite the fluorine substitution position playing a negligible role in the optical and electrochemical properties of the resulting small molecules, the photovoltaic performance thereof was observed to vary significantly. The planar n-i-p PSCs based on SFX-m-2F demonstrated superior performance (18.86%) when compared to that of the corresponding SFX-o-2F (9.7%) and SFX-p-2F (16.33%) under 100 mW cm-2 AM1.5G solar illumination, which is competitive with the performance of the benchmark spiro-OMeTAD-based device (18.98%). Moreover, the SFX-m-2F-based PSCs were observed to be more stable than the spiro-OMeTAD-based devices under ambient conditions. The improved performance of SFX-m-2F is primarily associated with improved morphology, more efficient hole transport, and extraction characteristics at the perovskite/HTM interface. This work demonstrated the application of fluorination engineering to the tuning of material film morphology and charge transfer properties, showing the promising potential of fluorinated SM-HTMs for the construction of low-cost, high-efficiency PSCs.

Abstract:Three spiro[fluorene-9,9′-xanthene] (SFX)-based organic molecules with different donor units were synthesized and used as dopant-free hole-transport materials (HTMs) in perovskite solar cells (PSCs). The end-capping donor units on the SFX core are two methoxydiphenylamine-substituted diphenylamine (MDDPA), two and four methoxydiphenylamine-substituted carbazole (MDCZ) for SFX-2DPA, SFX-2CZ and SFX-4CZ, respectively. The structure-function relationship is systematically investigated as the impact of the different donor units upon the optical, electrochemical and photophysical properties of SFX-based HTMs. The PSCs based on SFX-2CZ attain the higher power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 15.83% than that based on SFX-2DPA (14.25%), due to higher molecular planarity of SFX-2CZ with enhanced hole transporting ability and the downshifted HOMO level. On other hands, SFX-4CZ has the lowest efficiency (12.19%) among three HTMs mainly due to its inferior film-forming ability. The results provide not only the new molecular design of dopant-free organic HTMs based on SFX core, but also a promising strategy to develop efficient HTMs with both the molecular planarity and number of donor groups being considered.

Abstract:2,2',7,7'-Tetrakis(N,N-di-p-methoxyphenyl)-amine-9,9'-spirobifluorene (Spiro-OMeTAD) represents the state-of-the-art hole-transporting material (HTM) in n-i-p perovskite solar cells (PSCs). However, its susceptibility to stability issues has been a long-standing concern. In this study, we embark on a comprehensive exploration of the untapped potential within the family of spiro-type HTMs using an innovative anisotropic regulation strategy. Diverging from conventional approaches that can only modify spirobifluorene with single functional group, this approach allows us to independently tailor the two orthogonal components of the spiro-skeleton at the molecular level. The newly designed HTM, SF-MPA-MCz, features enhanced thermal stability, precise energy level alignment, superior film morphology, and optimized interfacial properties when compared to Spiro-OMeTAD, which contribute to a remarkable power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 24.53% for PSCs employing SF-MPA-MCz with substantially improved thermal stability and operational stability. Note that the optimal concentration for SF-MPA-MCz solution is only 30 mg/ml, significantly lower than Spiro-OMeTAD (>70 mg/ml), which could remarkably reduce the cost especially for large-area processing in future commercialization. This work presents a promising avenue for the versatile design of multifunctional HTMs, offering a blueprint for achieving efficient and stable PSCs.

Abstract:To enhance interface bonding and charge transfer in perovskite solar cells, halogenated spiro[fluorene‐9,9'‐xanthene]‐based molecules are designed as interfacial layers, structurally similar to charge selective contacts. The halogenated interlayers passivate defects, optimize energy level alignment, and stabilize interface contact, resulting in enhanced efficiency and stability. This work offers a novel approach toward high‐efficiency and durable photovoltaic devices. Weak bonding between the perovskite and charge transport layers can lead to interfacial defects, hindering charge transfer and limiting the efficiency and stability of perovskite solar cells (PSCs). To address this issue, two halogenated spiro[fluorene‐9,9′‐xanthene]‐based molecules (SFX‐DM‐F and SFX‐DM‐Cl) are designed as an interfacial layer between perovskite and hole transport materials (HTMs). Both first‐principles simulations and experimental results are used to demonstrate that these halogenated interfacial layers improve the contact stability between perovskite's Pb(II) and HTMs, increasing the efficiency of charge transfer. The similar structure of interlayer to HTM also enhances the interfacial hole transfer integral, favoring effective hole transport. The PSCs based on SFX‐DM‐Cl achieve power conversion efficiencies of 24.8% (0.0625 cm2) and 23.1% (1 cm2). Even after 2000 h at a relative humidity of 15–20%, the unencapsulated PSC retains 94% of its initial efficiency. This work proposes the halogenated homologous HTMs as interfacial molecular bridges to optimize weak chemical bonds and hole transfer, thereby enabling efficient and stable PSCs.

Abstract:Lithium bis (trifluoromethane sulfonyl) imide (Li-TFSI) and 4-tert-butyl pyridine (TBP) doped 2,2′,7,7′-tetrakis (N, N-p-dimethoxy-phenylamino)-9,9′-spirobifluorene (Spiro-OMeTAD) is the most commonly used hole-transporter in perovskite solar cells (PSCs). Although the introduction of both Li-TFSI and TBP can significantly enhance the conductivity of spiro-OMeTAD and thereby improve the power conversion efficiencies (PCEs) of PSCs, the dopants unfortunately render hysteresis and reduce stabilities of PSCs. In this paper, we have synthesized hydrophobic p-type PbS nanocrystals and prepared a binary hole-transporter by mixing PbS and Spiro-OMeTAD (PbS/Spiro-OMeTAD), which therefore avoids the use of traditional hygroscopic Li-TFSI and volatile TBP dual additives. The PbS/Spiro-OMeTAD exhibits excellent conductivity and well-matched valence band with that of perovskite. PSCs incorporating PbS/Spiro-OMeTAD as the hole transporting layer (HTL) can obtain a highest PCE of 20.11% and show excellent long-term stability, which is much better than the controlled device with Li-TFSI and TBP doped Spiro-OMeTAD as the HTL.

Remarkable hole transport properties of Spiro[fluorene-9,9′-xanthene] derivatives containing natural amino acid substituents for perovskite photovoltaics

Abstract:Hole transporting material (HTM) highly affect efficiency and stability of perovskite solar cells (PSCs). Therefore, suitable HTMs should be designed to effectively extract and transfer holes in PSC devices. Herein, several HTMs were engineered composed of Spiro[fluorene-9,9′-xanthene] (SFX) core functionalized with natural twenty-one amino acids at the ortho, meta, and para positions of two SFX phenyl rings. Density functional theory (DFT) computations and Marcus hopping theory were performed to investigate various properties of these HTM derivatives. Highest occupied molecular orbitals (HOMOs) of all HTM samples, except for SFX-Asparagine, SFX-Glutamic acid, SFX-Glutamine, and SFX-Valine, were located between valence band of formamidinium lead iodide (FAPbI3) perovskite and energy level of Ag cathode, which suggested these HTMs had efficient hole extraction and transport capabilities. Absorption spectra revealed that only SFX-Selenocysteine absorption occurred in visible region (λabs max = 800 nm), while absorption peaks all other molecules took place in ultraviolet (UV) area, similar to Spiro-OMeTAD. This was advantageous as it ensured that the HTMs had not any competition with perovskite material for sunlight absorption. Hole reorganization energies of all SFX-based materials, except for SFX-Serine and SFX-Histidine, were smaller than electron reorganization energies. Furthermore, hole mobility (μh) values of all HTMs were larger than (as big as 1000 times and higher) both of calculated (μh = 5.65 × 10−3 cm2V−1s−1) and experimental (μh = 4.53 × 10−4 cm2V−1s−1) values for Spiro-OMeTAD. This extraordinary result proved that all of the SFX-based molecules developed here had a high potential as alternative and more affordable HTMs to Spiro-OMeTAD.

Abstract:Poor operational stability is a crucial factor limiting the further application of perovskite solar cells (PSCs). Organic semiconductor layers can be a powerful means for reinforcing interfaces and inhibiting ion migration. Herein, two hole-transporting molecules, pDPA-SFX and mDPA-SFX, are synthesized with tuned substituent connection sites. The meta-substituted mDPA-SFX results in a larger dipole moment, more ordered packing, and better charge mobility than pDPA-SFX, accompany with strong interface bonding on perovskite surfaces and suppressed ion motion as well. Importantly, mDPA-SFX-based PSCs exhibit an efficiency that has significantly increased from 22.5% to 24.8% and a module-based efficiency of 19.26% with an active area of 12.95 cm2. The corresponding cell retain 94.8% of its initial efficiency at maximum power point tracking (MPPT) after 1,000 h (T95 = 1,000 h). The MPPT T80 lifetime is as long as 2,238 h. This work illustrates that a small degree of structural variation in organic compounds leaves considerable room for developing new HTMs for light stable PSCs.

A Trifluoroethoxyl Functionalized Spiro‐Based Hole‐Transporting Material for Highly Efficient and Stable Perovskite Solar Cells

Abstract:It is crucial to finely optimize the properties of hole transport materials (HTMs) to improve the performance and stability of perovskite solar cells (PSCs). Herein, a new spiro‐based HTM (Spiro‐4TFETAD) is developed by replacement of partial methoxy groups in Spiro‐OMeTAD with trifluoroethoxy substituents. Spiro‐4TFETAD has lower highest occupied molecular orbital level, higher thermal stability (Tg = 140 °C), hole mobility (2.04 × 10−4 cm2 V−1 s−1), and better hydrophobicity with respect to Spiro‐OMeTAD. The PSCs using Spiro‐4TFETAD achieve a power conversion efficiency of 21.11% and excellent humidity resistance. It maintains an average 83% of their initial power conversion efficiency values even in high relative humidity of 60% without encapsulation and 82% of its initial performance after 100 h continuous illumination at the maximum power point. The superior performance underscores the promising potential of the trifluoroethoxyl molecular design in preparing new HTMs toward highly efficient and stable PSCs. A trifluoroethoxyl functionalized hole transport material, Spiro‐4TFETAD, is designed and synthesized. Spiro‐4TFETAD shows lower highest occupied molecular orbital level, improved hole mobility, conductivity, and hydrophobicity, as well as effectiveness in minimizing perovskite decomposition, compared to Spiro‐OMeTAD. Spiro‐4TFETAD‐based perovskite solar cells exhibit a power conversion efficiency up to 21.11% with excellent stability, which are superior to those of Spiro‐OMeTAD‐based devices.

Simple hole-transporting materials containing twin-carbazole moiety and unconjugated flexible linker for efficient and stable perovskite solar cells

Abstract:Three twin-carbazole-based hole-transporting materials (HTMs) bearing an unconjugated flexible linker and four peripheral diphenylamine groups with different methoxy positions (pp-, pm-, and po-) are first synthesized (GJ-pp, GJ-pm, and GJ-po) and successfully employed in perovskite solar cells (PSCs). The HTMs were obtained from simple synthetic steps and facile purification techniques. The thermal stability, optical and electrochemical properties, density functional theory calculations, hole-transporting properties, X-ray diffraction, hole transfer dynamics, hydrophobic properties, surface morphology, and photovoltaic performances were measured and discussed. Device performance depends on the methoxy group positions. GJ-pp shows the best power conversion efficiency (17.23%) among the three twin-carbazole-based HTMs, and slightly lower than that of the spiro-OMeTAD-based devices (17.96%). However, the GJ-pp-based devices show outstanding thermal stability compared with the spiro-OMeTAD-based ones. Laboratory synthetic cost of GJ-pp is merely 29.0% of the purchasable spiro-OMeTAD price, and the concentration of GJ-pp is lower than that of spiro-OMeTAD (50.0 vs. 72.3 mg mL−1). The results demonstrate that the twin-carbazole moiety can endow enhanced charge transport properties due to its potential intermolecular interactions, and the conjugated core is unnecessary for promising HTMs.

Abstract:Hole transporting materials (HTMs) play a crucial role in achieving highly efficient and stable perovskite solar cells (PSCs). Spiro-typed materials being the most widely used HTMs are commonly utilized with dopants, such as Li-TFSI, to improve their carrier mobility significantly. However, dopants could affect the morphology of hole transporting layer negatively by forming defects and pinholes which restrict the performance of devices. Here, we adopt the extended π-conjugated structures N-ethylcarbazole and dibenzothiophene to substitute the donor group 4-methoxyphenyl of spiro-OMeTAD, devising two novel HTMs, SC and ST, respectively. Notably, SC possesses low crystallinity and good solubility due to the existence of ethyl in side groups, leading to decent miscibility with Li-TFSI to prevent unfavorable phase-separation. The SC-based device delivers the best power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 21.76% which is higher than that of spiro-OMeTAD (20.73%), attributed to the formation of smooth and pinhole-free morphology. Moreover, it exhibits long-term stability and retains over 90% of initial PCE value for more than 30 days without encapsulation in ambient air. In contrast, the ST-based device suffers from dense pinholes induced by its relatively high crystallinity and poor solubility, resulting in a low PCE of 18.18% and inferior stability. Abstract:The hole -transporting material (HTM) plays a crucial role in the performance and stability of perovskite solar cells (PSCs). Ideally, it facilitates lossless charge transfer and suppresses charge recombination and ion migration between the perovskite and electrode. These bulk and interface functionalities require tailored electronic, structural, and chemical properties of the material and film. Here, we report a multifunctional organic HTM T2 based on a thiomethylsubstituted fluorene arm and spiro-[fluorene-9,9 0 -xanthene] core exhibiting enhanced hole extraction and reduced interface recombination compared with the benchmark HTM spiro-OMeTAD. T2 exhibits strong interactions with adjacent layers, which effectively inhibit interlayer ion migration, leading to enhanced stability. In combination with thermally evaporated perovskite films, power conversion efficiencies of 26.41% (26.21% certified) and 24.88% (certified) have been achieved for 0.1 and 1.0 cm 2 PSCs. The excellent performance together with a scalable and low-cost synthesis laid a solid foundation for the future large-scale application of PSCs.

Abstract:Exploration on alternative organic hole-transporting materials (HTMs) especially for high-efficiency perovskite solar cells (PSCs) has attracted great attention recently. In this work, a strategy to tune π-bridged units of the small molecular HTM which consists of bis(4-methoxyphenyl)amine as arm and spiro[fluorene-9,9'-xanthene] as π-bridge were theoretically presented for improvement of the PSC efficiency. The π-bridged tunings could promote the contribution of the highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO) to delocalize throughout whole molecules in order to be favorable for enhancing the hole transfer integral and hole mobility. Compared with the parent HTM, the new designed HTMs in PSC applications exhibit better performance with higher HOMO energy levels, larger Stokes shifts, little exciton binding energy, better stability and higher hole mobility. Therefore, the strategy on basis of modulating the π-bridge units of small molecules can effectively change the performance of HTMs and thereby provide a useful guideline of π-bridge screening for the design of excellent HTMs in PSC applications. In view of the excellent properties, the designed molecules as HTMs can act as a promising candidates for providing a large efficiency in PSC applications.

Cyclization of methoxy groups on spiro-type hole transporting materials for efficient and stable perovskite solar cells

Abstract:Hole transporting materials (HTMs) are vital in efficient and stable perovskite solar cells (PSCs). To improve the performance of PSCs, it is of great significance to design and optimize HTMs. Here, spiro-biOMe, an analogue of spiro-OMeTAD featuring one additional meta -methoxy group on each diarylamine moiety, is reported. The structure of this new HTM has been further elaborated to give another analogue, spiro-cyclOMe, where an alkyl chain links the two adjacent O atoms. The effect of chemical structure on molecular and photovoltaic properties has been studied. It was found that the hole mobility and thermal stability were noticeably increased in the case of spiro-cyclOMe. When used in the PSC device (used perovskite: Cs 0.05 FA 0.95 PbI 3 ), spiro-cyclOMe delivers a power conversion efficiency (PCE) of over 23%, which is higher than spiro-biOMe (PCE = 20.19%) and spiro-OMeTAD (PCE = 22.61%). A device employing spiro-cyclOMe, with an active area of 0.56 cm 2 , exhibited a PCE of 21.64%. More importantly, PSCs employing spiro-cyclOMe as HTM also showed better stability than those employing spiro-OMeTAD.

An Acetylene-Linked 9,9′-Bicarbazole-Based Hole-Transporting Material for Efficient Perovskite Solar Cells

Abstract:A new hole-transporting material (XJ-05) based on a 9,9′-bicarbazole core and four acetylene-linked triphenylamine groups was designed and applied for perovskite solar cells (PSCs). Optical spectra, thermal stability, electrochemical properties, density functional theory calculations, hydrophobicity, hole mobility, hole transfer dynamics, and surface morphology of XJ-05 were evaluated and discussed. Planar n–i–p PSCs were fabricated using triple cation perovskite Cs0.05(MA0.17FA0.83)0.95Pb(I0.83Br0.17)3 as the light-harvesting layer. The PSCs based on doped XJ-05 achieved a maximum power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 16.08%, which is comparable to that of PSCs based on state-of-the-art hole-transporting material, spiro-OMeTAD (17.55%). Unfortunately, the doped XJ-05-based cells showed inferior stability. Moreover, the dopant-free XJ-05-based devices showed a PCE up to 12.61% and retained 79.9% of their initial PCE under moisture after 260 h, which represent a much better stability than the spiro-OMeTAD-based ones.

Abstract:A series of dithienopyran (DTP)‐based HTMs are reported by substituting different functional groups, which are applied for high‐performance perovskite solar cells (PSCs). The trifluoromethyl‐substituted CF3‐oF exhibits remarkable PCEs in both small‐area (0.09 cm2, 24.13%), and large‐area (1.00 cm2, 22.31%) devices, with good stability owing to its superior hole transport, film formation properties, and hydrophobicity. The structural modification of hole‐transporting materials (HTMs) is an effective strategy for enhancing photovoltaic performance in perovskite solar cells (PSCs). Herein, a series of dithienopyran (DTP)‐based HTMs (Me‐H, Ph‐H, CF3‐H, CF3‐mF, and CF3‐oF) is designed and synthesized by substituting different functional groups on the DTP unit and are used fabricating PSCs. In comparison with Me‐H having two methyl substituents on the dithienopyrano ring, the Ph‐H having two phenyl substituents on the ring exhibits higher PCEs. Notably, the incorporation of trifluoromethyl groups in CF3‐H endows the molecule with a larger dipole moment, deeper HOMO energy level, better film morphology, closer molecular stacking, more efficient defect‐passivation, enhanced hydrophobicity, and better photovoltaic performance when compared with the Ph‐H counterpart. Furthermore, the HTMs of CF3‐mF and CF3‐oF, which feature fluorine‐substituted triphenylamine, demonstrated excellent film‐forming properties, more suitable energy levels, enhanced charge mobility, and improved passivation of the buried interface between HTMs and perovskite. As a result, PSCs employing CF3‐mF and CF3‐oF gave impressive PCEs of 23.41 and 24.13%, respectively. In addition, the large‐area (1.00 cm2) PSCs based on CF3‐oF achieved a PCE of 22.31%. Moreover, the PSCs devices with CF3 series HTMs exhibited excellent long‐term stability under different conditions.

Abstract:To date, doped 2,2,7,7-Tetrakis(N,N-dip-methoxyphenylamine)-9,9-spirobifluorene (Spiro-OMeTAD) is still state-of-the-art hole transport material (HTM) for inverted perovskite solar cells (PeSCs). Nevertheless, hydroscopic dopants usually lead to accelerated degradation of perovskite and hence reduce the device durability especially those based on all-inorganic perovskite. In this work, we report a series of dopant-free mixtures (SpiPA) of hydrophilic Spiro-OMeTAD and hydrophobic poly(triarylamine) (PTAA), which exhibit tunable surface wettability due to the dominant lateral phase separation. When applying them as HTM for inverted CsPbI2Br PeSCs, SpiPA-II based devices yield enhanced efficiency up to 12.52% with significantly reduced hysteresis, as compared to the devices with other mixed HTLs (SpiPA-I, SpiPA-III, SpiPA-IV) and conventional HTLs including pristine Spiro-OMeTAD (10.26%), PTAA (9.05%) and NiOx (10.75%). Additionally, the corresponding mechanism has been studied in detail.

Abstract:Triarylamine end-capped-functionalized arylene-imidazole derivatives were synthesized from readily accessible, inexpensive precursors and employed as hole transporting materials (HTMs) in perovskite solar cells (PSCs). All the HTMs displayed high thermal decomposition temperatures (>410 °C), which is beneficial for realizing stable PSC devices. In addition, the new HTMs show appropriate energy level alignment with the perovskite layer, ensuring efficient hole transfer from perovskites to HTMs. Interestingly, PSCs fabricated with the triarylamine-functionalized imidazolyl-capped bithiophene molecule (DImBT-4D) as the HTM exhibited the best power conversion efficiency of 20.11%, comparable to that of the benchmark HTM spiro-OMeTAD, prompting it be a prospective candidate for large-scale PSC applications.

Abstract:A hydrophobic surface of the hole‐transport layer of perovskite solar cell (PSC) is effectively constructed by utilizing perfluoropolyether. This imparts water resistance to the PSC, maintaining over 80% of its initial efficiency even after being immersed in water for 120 s. Organic–inorganic hybrid perovskites in combination with the hole‐transport material (HTM) 2,2′,7,7′‐tetrakis(N,N‐di‐p‐methoxyphenylamine)‐9,9′‐spirobifluoren (spiro‐OMeTAD) yield impressive power conversion efficiency (PCE) in n–i–p perovskite solar cells (PSC). To ensure sufficient hole extraction from the perovskite absorber to the metal electrode, the lithium bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)imide (LiTFSI) doping is considered indispensable to promote spiro‐OMeTAD oxidization and obtain consequently enhanced conductivity. However, LiTFSI‐doped spiro‐OMeTAD usually leads to a reduced stability of PSCs because of the hygroscopic nature of LiTFSI, which further limits its potential commercialization. Herein, a hydrophobic material, namely perfluoropolyethers (PFPEs), is used as surface modifier of doped HTM to improve both efficiency and stability of PSCs. It is revealed that the introduction of PFPE increases the concentration of positive radicals, enhances charge‐carrier transport, and improves stability of PSCs under wetting stress. Moreover, the device based on PFPE achieves a champion PCE of 21.94%. In these findings, valuable insights are provided for the future commercialization of PSCs.
