Abstract:Based on the nonlinearity of metal rubber components and its different elastic damping mechanical properties with different structures, the mechanical model of hysteresis loop boundary deformation process of metal rubber components with different relative densities was established by the experiment method combining theory. Dynamic characteristics of metal rubber damping ring were analyzed under harmonic excitation load and experimental study was conducted. The elastic damping performance of the damper with preliminary deformation was researched and the experimental result showed good agreement with the theoretical analysis one, which provides a theoretical basis for practical application of this kind of damper.

Abstract:This paper presented a theoretical model of loss factor of metal-rubber. Dynamic experiments on a metal-rubber structure were made. Effects of the material density and the heat treatment technology on the loss factors of the structure were investigated qualitatively, and effects of the heights of the material and the weights of the system on the loss factors were also studied quantitatively. The relation between the two parameters and the loss factor was obtained by the least square method. The loss factor of the structure was predicted, and the result established a theoretical foundation for analysis of dynamic response of metal-rubber.

Abstract:Metal rubber has been extensively used in recent years due to its several unique properties, especially in adverse environments. Although many experimental studies have been conducted, theoretical research on metal rubber is still in its infancy. In this work, a dynamic model for the nonlinear characteristics of pot-shaped metal rubber is established on the basis of the asymmetric dynamic model of the wire rope shock absorber and the trace method model. In addition, the corresponding parameters in the model are identified based on the parameter-separation method. The theoretical hysteresis loop obtained using the model and the measured hysteresis loop agree with each other. The results show that the asymmetric dynamic model can better describe the asymmetric dynamic characteristics of pot-shaped metal rubber. Furthermore, a pot-shaped metal rubber vibration reduction system is built to further verify the correctness of the model. This study provides an experimental reference and a theoretical basis for the practical application of pot-shaped metal rubber in the field of three-dimensional vibration reduction.

Abstract:This work studied the cushion efficiencies of aluminum foam and metal rubber as the cushion materials for microaccelerometers under shock load. A series of shock experiments were carried out to test the performance of these two materials. Preliminary results indicated that aluminum foam and metal rubber have different energy absorption mechanisms, and both of them have excellent energy absorption capability, which can effectively cushion the effect of shocking pulse peak and suppress the high-frequency vibration noise. Aluminum foam and metal rubber are believed to be promising cushion materials for microaccelerometer.

Abstract:In order to investigate mechanical properties of stainless steel metal rubber that will be used as seismic reduction and energy dissipation with dampers in civil structures,metal rubber elements with various nominal densities tests were performed in this paper.Static and dynamic compression load were applied on the elements.The influence of several important factors was tested,which includes strain amplitude,cyclic number nominal density and frequency of loading on the damping energy dissipation of metal rubber.Our experimental results indicate that metal rubber has good elasticity and damping ability.With the increase of nominal density and strain amplitude,the metal rubber elements has larger energy dissipation capability.In contrast,Frequency and cyclic number of applied load have little influence on hysteretic properties of the metal rubber.

Abstract:To figure out the performance of dampers made of metal rubber (MR) that are installed in bridge and frame shear wall structures to change the energy consumption mode of artifacts, experiments were performed on the MR material processed by improved processing techniques to test its compression and shear hysteresis properties in high-temperature environment, and discover the laws of the impact of factors such as the improved processing techniques and temperature on the compression and shear hysteresis of the material. At the same time, based on test curves and the strain hardening laws of the material, this paper employed the least square method to perform piecewise linear fitting on MR curves, and the corresponding strain hardening constitutive model was established and verified. The study suggests that, after processed by the improved processing techniques, the compression and shear hysteresis energy consumption performance of the MR test pieces is very stable, and the shear strength had been improved. As the temperature increases, the metal rubber consumes more vibrational energy, and the stiffness of MR vibration isolator increases as well; at a same temperature, as the strain amplitude and relative density increase, the vibrational energy consumed by the MR damping material increases accordingly. The simplified constitutive model constructed in the paper has a simple form, it can not only describe the strain hardening features of the material, but also conform to the test curves, therefore, it can facilitate the parameter design and the calculation of MR dampers. The research conclusions obtained in this paper can provide theoretical and experimental evidence for the processing, preparation, and application of MR dampers, and it is of very important theoretical significance and practical value.

The paper studied theoretically and experimentally the damping characteristics of metal rubber damper used in the flexible supporting of turbo-pump rotor of aircraft engine. It investigated the method for calculating damping coefficient and stiffness of the damper loaded with an external rotary force. Abstract:Combining the experiments with theoretical analysis,the elastomer dampers with pure silicone oil and different volume percentage of solid particles as the medium are studied.The shock experiments for each damper were conducted.The shock characteristics of the dampers under solid-liquid coupling condition are analyzed.A dynamics model is established.Then the parameters of this model are identified and compared with the experimental data.This research provides a significant guidance to the shock experiments research,dynamics modeling and engineering application of the elastomer damper containing solid particles.

Abstract:Metal entangled structure is a porous metal damping material wound by spiral springs and formed by cold stamping. Its interior consists of interlocking and interlocking spiral springs. To further make the metal entangled structure have the characteristics of high stiffness and high damping at the same time, a high‐performance metal entangled structure‐silicone rubber composite damping material was designed. The viscoelastic properties, mechanical stability, deformation behavior, and damage mechanism of metal entangled structure‐silicone rubber composite were investigated by relaxation test, cyclic loading test, different loading rate test, and damage test, respectively. The effects of different preparation process parameters and loading conditions on the static mechanical properties of metal entangled structure‐silicone rubber composite were investigated. The experimental results show that metal entangled structure‐silicone rubber composite has good mechanical stability, insignificant viscoelasticity, and also variable damping and variable stiffness properties, and the load carrying capacity is substantially increased while maintaining good damping properties.

Abstract:Magnetorheological elastomers (MREs) are a group of smart materials which have many applications such as dynamic vibration absorbers, engine mounts, and so on. The damping behavior is important for applications of MREs. However, the mechanism of the damping of MREs has not been investigated thoroughly. In this study, MREs are modeled as special particle reinforced composites with magneto-induced properties and the mechanism of the damping behavior of MREs is investigated theoretically and experimentally. It has been found that there are three types of damping property in MREs: the intrinsic damping, the interface damping and the magneto-mechanical damping. The presented damping model is successfully validated by damping tests on a series of MRE samples. Furthermore, the relationships between the damping properties and formulas of MREs are discussed; this provides guidance for the manufacture of MREs with various damping properties.

Abstract:Metal rubber specimens for studying their sound absorption were manufactured in a wide range of porosity.The sound absorption performance of metal rubber material was investigated by an experimental method.The effects of porosity and air gap in the back on sound absorption have been analyzed for the MR material in a sort of fiber diameter.The flow resistivity of the material was tested with a set of self-made equipment and the rule that flow resistivity changes with the porosity is presented.

Abstract:The lander detection device uses the outrigger buffer structure due to its complex impact loading during the landing process. This external load can be absorbed by using a lander buffer mechanism consisting of porous Metal Rubber (MR) buffer and a backup buffering structure. Therefore, in order to fully use the dry friction damping characteristics of MR material behaved under special working conditions, a buffering system has been designed to examine the important factors involved in shock energy absorption. In this study, the hybrid buffering system with MR buffer as core component and an aluminum honeycomb as auxiliary structure for the consideration of safety and reliability was modeled. Moreover, the finite element method by combining the COMBI165 spring damping unit and solid contact elements were used in ANSYS LS-DYNA to simulate the shock resistance of buffer component. The effect of influencing factors on mechanical properties of MR, as well as the feature importance of nonlinear stiffness of MR buffer, were calculated with consideration of ambient temperature, peak value and pulse width of external excitation and relative density on the shock resistance of MR. According to the orthogonal comparison between the above three parameters and temperature, the impact resistance and temperature adaptability of MR were comprehensively analyzed. The final results demonstrated that MR material had major potential for absorbing the impact energy used as a buffer in landing equipment, which would provide constructive guidance for the design of hybrid buffering system and development of MR material in the future.

Abstract:Metal rubber is a kind of material with good performance in the fields of vibration protection, heat transmission, sealing and so on. It can keep good performance under serious conditions such as high temperature, vacuum. In this paper, a kind of Metal Rubber isolator is designed and experimental research on characteristics of this isolator is exploited. According to the static experimental results, relations between the stiffness vs. amplitude,density vs. amplitude are obtained respectively. A mathematical model of metal rubber isolator is applied to analyze the experimental results. It can be as theoretical basis of the application of metal rubber isolator.

Abstract:This paper studies the energy dissipation of metal rubber with an enhanced turbulence model. Based on the catastrophe theory which is a highly generalized mathematical tool, a new method for studying turbulence is proposed, which can quantitatively analyze the energy dissipation of the whole turbulence developed to process and strictly deduce the expression of the energy spectrum density in different turbulence development stages. Then, a theoretical model of sound absorption performance in full-frequency is established by this enhanced turbulence model. Furthermore, the sound absorption property and energy dissipation of metal rubber are studied under different structural parameters. This paper not only demonstrates −10/9 and −5/3 power laws of the energy spectrum but also finds −3 power laws at high frequencies. Finally, the accuracy of the enhanced turbulence model and the feasibility of the metal rubber research method based on the enhanced turbulence model are verified by wind tunnel test and standing wave tube test, respectively. This study not only has a theoretical guidance for the preparation of metal rubber but also has a new perspective for the study of turbulent phase transition and even other complex phase transitions.

Abstract:Metal rubber has much penetrated pores from the surface to the core,and the quasi-periodic and irregularity features are very similar to those of turbulence. Because of the irregularity within the structure of metal rubber, even if the Reynolds number is very small, turbulence still occurs. Therefore, the concept of the Kolmogorov locM isotropic turbulence is introduced and two assumptions on the local isotropic Kolmogorov turbulence are obtained. The physical model of turbulence is established, and the sound absorbing characteristics of metal rubber are quantitatively analyzed and the relationship of the expression between the energy dissipation rate of metal rubber material and its structural parameters is obtained. The results show that the introduction of turbulence statistical method provides not only a rubber instruments such as damper and muffler but applications of ultra-light metal porous materials. reliable theoretical basis for the optimal design of metal an effective quantitative analysis method for engineering

Abstract:Flexible microporous metal rubber (FMP-MR) is a high-damping material that dissipates energy by dry friction through internal spiral metal wires in contact with each other. However, the FMP-MR energy dissipation mechanism is not fully understood owing to its disordered grid interpenetrating structure. In this work, computer-aided preparation technology is used to accurately reconstruct the complex spiral network structure of FMP-MR multipoint random contact, and a cell group model with an energy dissipation mechanism is proposed to obtain the dynamic energy distribution of the contact friction in both space and time dimensions. By judging the effective contact point, a global displacement ablation phenomenon of hooked staggered porous materials is induced. The macro- and micro-equivalent frictions are introduced to effectively explain the characteristics of the strong energy dissipation in FMP-MR under fretting excitation. A real and effective damping hysteresis constitutive model is then constructed to dynamically capture the mapping relationship between the complex nonlinear topological structure effect of the materials and spatial random contact dry friction in real time. The results indicate that the contact behavior between turns of the FMP-MR wire follows a clear quasi-Gaussian distribution under an external load, forcing the topological results to change. The energy dissipation of the materials revealed peak energy consumption lagging behind the loading limit for a certain distance, which can be determined by the effective contact point and contact dry friction slip. The consistency between the quasi-static compression tests and constitutive curves of the model was quantitatively verified through residual analysis. The data demonstrated the differential behavior of the FMP-MR meso-structure to follow a phased growth law during loading with different action mechanisms in the guiding, main growth, and relaxation stages of the energy consumption displacement curve. In summary, these findings provide an acceptable theoretical basis for the damping energy consumption mechanism and lifetime prediction of FMP-MR.

Abstract:Shock-absorbing materials play a vital role in various industrial sectors, including construction and transportation. Among these materials, natural rubber (NR) stands out due to its exceptional elastic and mechanical properties, coupled with its robust crack resistance. Nevertheless, with the rising demand for enhanced damping capacities, there is a need to further optimize the damping performance of NR. One direct approach is to blend it with high-damping rubber. Butyl rubber (IIR) is a prominent member of the high-damping rubber category. Integrating IIR effectively with the NR, however, presents challenges. These challenges arise from IIR's inherent characteristics, such as its low unsaturation, slower vulcanization rate, and restricted compatibility with NR. Addressing these challenges, our study employed isoprene and isobutene to synthesize a variant of butyl rubber with a higher degree of unsaturation-achieving an unsaturation level between 4 and 6 mol %. Notably, this heightened unsaturation significantly expedited the curing time of IIR and facilitated the concurrent vulcanization of both IIR and NR. Utilizing atomic force microscopy, we observed that the introduction of unsaturated double bonds ameliorated the compatibility between NR and IIR, leading to an interfacial region extending up to 1000 nm. Our tests using a dynamic mechanical analyzer and rubber processing analyzer demonstrated the material's damping temperature range. Furthermore, there was a noticeable rise in the loss factor (tan δ) at ambient temperature, which remains over 0.1 across both a frequency window of 0.2 to 5 Hz and a strain spectrum of 10 to 200%. This tan δ enhancement ensured the potential of these rubber composites for shock-absorbing applications.

Abstract:The single output rod dumping orifice typed automobile magneto-rheologic shock absorber has been designed.On the basis of Newton fluid theory and characteristics of magneto-rheology and fluid rheology,theoretical analysis and calculation on the dumping property of magneto-rheologic shock absorber were carried out and the influence on dumping property of shock absorber affected by each structural parameter of shock absorber was discussed.By adopting the MRF-132AD typed magneto-rheologic liquid of Lord Company the influence on dumping force affected by intensity of magnetic field and the relationship between dumping force and velocity under various intensities of magnetic field were calculated and analyzed.

Abstract:A squeeze film damper (SFD) with metal rubber (MR) ring installed on the end and the radial direction of rotor are implemented in this paper. Based on the hypothesis of π film, the description of the new SFD/MR flux and nonlinear oil film damping force is derived according to the Reynolds Eq. and Darcy’s law. It proves that the SFD/MR has better damping characteristics than the traditional SFD after comparatively analyzing characteristics of oil film between the traditional short SFD and the SFD/MR.
