Abstract:Objective To investigate and analyze the mid-term follow-up results of total hip arthroplasty( THA) for Crowe type-Ⅳ developmental dysplasia of hip( DDH) in adults. Methods A consecutive series of 24 cases in 19 patients with Crowe type-Ⅳ DDH were treated with THA.There were 15 females and 5 males, and the mean age of the patient at the time of surgery was 48.2 years( range from 39 ~ 72years).Before the operation, the detailed preoperation plan was needed. The mean amount of shorten leg length was( 4.68 ± 0.95) cm.Uncemented prosthesis was chosen during the operation.Structural bone grafting was adopted to reconstruct acetabular. Each patient was evaluated by Harris hip score and radiographic results. Results The mean follow-upwas31 months( range,11 ~ 72 months),The meanHHSwas( 44.20 ± 19.51) preoperatively and( 44.20 ± 19.51) at the last visit( P 0.05).The mean amount of postoperative leg lengthening was( 4.46 ± 0.94) cm.Neuropraxy was detected in 1 hips postoperatively, which was healed after 6 months symptomatic treatment.Dislocation was also detected in 1 hips 6 months after operation, which was functional recovered after skin traction for 3 weeks. Conclusion Mid-term results shows THA is an effective procedure for Crowe type-Ⅳ developmental dysplasia of hip in adults.
