Abstract:Wideband ultra-short waves signal detection,control and defense receiving technology is designed,which can realize real-time detection and demodulation of wireless signals in a specified frequency band.Carry on the independent detection to the signal,identify the effective signal among them,extract the parameter characteristic,the frequency,bandwidth,signal-to-noise ratio,signal level,occurrence time,symbol rate and modulation mode of the signal are estimated.And it can collect,control and demodulate the specified signal,and realize the frequency and phase synchronization of the blind signal independently.

Abstract:A New S-band small volume,low power consumption,high receiver sensitivity and high dynamic range micro-transponder is designed and implemented for pico-satellite.The transponder is based on software defined radio,and uses digital integer-N phase locked loop chips for frequency synthesizer.The whole architecture has advantages of modulability,flexibility and simplicity.Implemented on a 16.5 cm×10 cm printed circuit board,the transponder was tested with the performances of 4.5 W power consumption,26 dBm transmit power,-136 dBm receiver sensitivity under the condition of 1 kHz loop bandwidth,and more than 80 dB receiver dynamic range.The transponder satisfies the requirements of pico-satellite with the altitude less than 1 000 km.

Abstract:The shortwave channel is a kind of time-variant multipath channel with impulsive noise and Gauss noise.The method of zero-memory non-linearity system and segmental blind equalization is proposed for modulation recognition.An ideal zero-memory non-linearity system transforms the impulsive noise to Gauss noise,leaving the signal intact.Segmental equalization relieves the influence on equalizer caused by time-variant channel and error of parameters estimation.The results of equalization have much difference because of remain impulsive noise and time-variant channel.The optimal equalized segmentation determining the modulation type is selected by the maximum posterior probability.Simulation results show average successful rates are more than 90% in shortwave channels with impulsive noise when SNR is above 10dB.

Abstract:A novel recognition scheme based on the spectrum feature analysis is proposed. A set of robust feature parameters are extracted from signal power spectrum and the power spectrum of the second and fourth power of signal. The proposed scheme can recognize many common used modulated signals in the satellite channel without any prior knowledge. Simulation results show that the scheme can achieve more than 98% recognition accuracy when SNR is above 5dB. This method is feasible and practical.

Abstract:A novel algorithm is proposed to identify automatically the modulation types of the communication signals using wavelet transform and pattern recognition.Unlike other modulation classification algorithms,this one can identify analog and digital modulations at the same time.Wavelet transform is used to estimate the symbol rate of the received signals in order to discriminate between analog and digital modulation types.Then the feature parameters are extracted to identify the specific modulation type.Computer simulation results demonstrate that the performance of the algorithm is efficient when the SNR≥15dB.

Abstract:A new method of adaptive digital filtering and digital demodulation based on software radio architecture and used in the remote sensing system is proposed in this paper. Compared with the method once widely used, analog/digital phase lock loop, the new system, as all SWR systems, has three obvious characteristics: easily reconfigured, good flexibility, and modulation. The new method mentioned here makes the digital filtering and the digital demodulation processor of the SWR receiver recover useful signal perfectly. The signal can be immediately recovered on the first one-bit-level jump if the signal is under the state of unlocking without the synchronization building time of the normal DPLL. The new adaptive demodulation method based on SWR architecture can be widely used in almost every remote sensing systems

Abstract:The orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) is widely used in modern radio communications because of its efficient spectrum utilization. As we know, the adaptive modulation can efficiently improve the spectrum utilization of OFDM systems, in comparison with the non-adaptive modulation. For this, we design a learning-driven automatic modulation recognition (AMR) receiver for the OFDM system in this paper. The AMR receiver is composed of the robust channel estimation neural network (RCE-NET), the modulation recognition neural network (MR-NET) and the decoding network (DE-NET). Specifically, the RCE-NET estimates a channel state information by the least squares estimation, and the MR-NET realizes the modulation recognition based on the constellation diagram of the equalized signals. After that, the corresponding DE-NET is used for decoding according to the recognition result of the MR-NET. In order to verify the robustness of the designed receiver, we conduct the simulations in different channel models. Simulation results demonstrate the efficiency of our proposed AMR receiver on the channel estimation, modulation recognition and decoding.

Abstract:In impulse radio based ultra-wideband (UWB) multiuser communication systems, each user's transmitted symbols are modulated by pulse position modulation (PPM), and corrupted by both intersymbol interference and multiple access interference at the receiver end. To construct low-complexity linear receivers for efficient symbol detection, channel information is needed. In this paper, following a particular input/output model that transforms a PPM system model into a sum of seemingly pulse amplitude modulation signals, a structure similar to a code-division multiple access system, we show that subspace technique can be applied to blindly estimate multipath channels. Performance of the proposed channel estimator is studied. To detect desired symbols, MMSE receivers are constructed. Simulation results demonstrate superiority of the proposed method to the existing maximum likelihood channel estimator.

Abstract:Impulse radio-based ultra-wideband (UWB) communication systems allow multiple users to access channels simultaneously by assigning unique time-hopping codes to individual users, while each user's information stream is modulated by pulse-position modulation (PPM). However, transmitted signals undergo fading from a number of propagation paths in a dense multipath environment and meanwhile suffer from multiuser interference (MUI). Although RAKE receiver can be employed to maximally exploit path diversity, it is a single-user receiver. Multiuser receiver can significantly improve detection performance. Each of these receivers requires channel parameters. Existing maximum likelihood channel estimators treat MUI as Gaussian noise. In this paper, we derive a blind subspace channel estimator first and then design linear receivers. Following a channel input/output model that transforms a PPM signal into a sum of seemingly pulse-amplitude modulated signals, a structure similar to a code-division multiple-access (CDMA) system is observed. Code matrices for each user are identified. After considering unique statistical properties of new inputs such as mean and covariance, the model is further transformed to ensure that all signature waveforms lie in the signal subspace and are orthogonal to the noise subspace. Consequently, a subspace technique is applicable to estimate each channel. Then minimum mean square error receivers of two different versions are designed, suitable for both uplink and downlink. Asymptotic performance of both the channel estimator and receivers is studied. Closed-form bit error rate is also derived.

Time-Frequency Analysis based Blind Modulation Classification for Multiple-Antenna Systems

Abstract:Blind modulation classification is an important step to implement cognitive radio networks. The multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) technique is widely used in military and civil communication systems. Due to the lack of prior information about channel parameters and the overlapping of signals in the MIMO systems, the traditional likelihood-based and feature-based approaches cannot be applied in these scenarios directly. Hence, in this paper, to resolve the problem of blind modulation classification in MIMO systems, the time-frequency analysis method based on the windowed short-time Fourier transform is used to analyse the time-frequency characteristics of time-domain modulated signals. Then the extracted time-frequency characteristics are converted into RGB spectrogram images, and the convolutional neural network based on transfer learning is applied to classify the modulation types according to the RGB spectrogram images. Finally, a decision fusion module is used to fuse the classification results of all the receive antennas. Through simulations, we analyse the classification performance at different signal-to-noise ratios (SNRs), the results indicate that, for the single-input single-output (SISO) network, our proposed scheme can achieve 92.37% and 99.12% average classification accuracy at SNRs of -4 dB and 10 dB, respectively. For the MIMO network, our scheme achieves 80.42% and 87.92% average classification accuracy at -4 dB and 10 dB, respectively. This outperforms the existing classification methods based on baseband signals.

Modulation Recognition of Multi-Signals Via Multi-Resolution Approach

Abstract:A modulation recognition method based on multi-resolution analysis for time-frequency overlapped multi-signals is proposed. These signals include wireless communication signals, RADAR signals and satellites signals in single channel. The algorithm extracts the characteristic points of mixed signal by the multi-resolution analysis firstly, and then separates them through polynomial curve fitting, finally, estimates the parameters for each signal, respectively. This method is able to estimating the number of mixed signal components, calculating their symbol rates, also recognizing their modulation types from few sampling data. The method doesn't need any prior information, and has much more adaptability and robustness. Computer simulations have verified its validity and practicability to the engineering for the first time.

Abstract:This letter proposes a novel modulation recognition algorithm for very high frequency (VHF) radio signals, which is based on antinoise processing and deep sparse-filtering convolutional neural network (AN-SF-CNN). First, the cyclic spectra of modulated signals are calculated, and then, low-rank representation is performed on cyclic spectra to reduce disturbances existed in VHF radio signals. After that, before fine tuning the CNN, we propose a sparse-filtering criterion to unsupervised pretrain the network layer-by-layer, which improves generalization effectively. Several experiments are taken on seven kinds of modulated signals, and the simulation results show that, compared with the traditional methods and some renowned deep learning methods, the proposed method can achieve higher or equivalent classification accuracy, and presents robustness against noises.

Abstract:Blind modulation classification is a fundamental step before signal detection for cognitive radio networks where the users may not have the complete knowledge of the modulation scheme due to the flexibility of operating dynamically in multiple frequency bands. In this paper, a modulation-constrained (MC) clustering classifier is proposed for recognizing the modulation scheme with unknown channel matrix and noise variance for MIMO systems. By recognizing the fact that the received signals within an observation interval form into clusters and exploiting the intrinsic relationships of different digital modulation schemes, the modulation classification problem is transformed into a clustering problem without direct channel estimation for each modulation scheme and the maximum likelihood criterion is applied for the final classification decision. A central component of the proposed classifier is a method called centroid reconstruction, which exploits the structural relationships in constellation diagrams to reconstruct cluster centroids with fewer number of parameters. Furthermore, a method to initialize the cluster centroids is also proposed. The proposed MC classifier together with centroid reconstruction and initialization methods not only reduce the number of parameters to be estimated, but also help to initialize the centroids for enhanced convergence of expectation- maximization (EM) algorithm. Simulation results show that our algorithm can perform excellently even at low SNR and with very short observation interval length.
