Abstract:In the first half of the Qing Dynasty, many scholars commented on Sikong Tu′s Critique of Poetry In the discussions on the authorship of this work, sufficient notice should be paid to critical acclaim by Qing scholars. Without ascertained proof, Sikong Tu′s authorship should not arbitrarily be denied.

Abstract:Liu xizai is a famous writer in literary criticism in late Qing Dynasty,whose book The Sum of Literature gives a high and correct evaluation of Li bai's poems and is quite creative.This is exhibited in these aspects: the origin of Li bai 's poems can be traced back to Zhuang and Sao;Li bai had great ambitions and wanted to assist a ruler in governing a country,but his poems often represent the opposition;his words have proper limits in essence;Li bai's poems have elegant content and rhythm and besides,he often has Promethean verses.

Abstract:He Zhuo was a commentator in early Qing dynasty.This paper studies his poem criticism,taking Li Shangyin's poems as example.For him,criticism was academic reach exactly.He connected textual research and criticism,which guided a new way of criticism.And he fabricated his poem theory by criticism,overmatch criticism in Ming dynasty which was just the emotion in the reading.What's more his criticism had academic value because he commented on the base of textual research.So his criticism had great academic and poetic value.

Abstract:The paper is to analyze and interpret in detail the content and aesthetic features of each grade in Sikong Tu′s TwentyFour Grades of Poetry. The discussion will be placed in the wider perspective, that is, one needs to put Sikong Tu′s critique of poetry in the context of ancient Chinese philosophical thoughts and aesthetic tradition. His critique undoubtedly becomes a source of inspiration for some of Tang poets. With careful study of artistic conception and distinctiveness of flavor and style as demonstrated in some of Tang poems, one might understand and appreciate more deeply the significance and function of TwentyFour Grades of Poetry.
Towards the Commentaries on Zhen Chuan's Essays by Scholars in the Qing Dynasty

Abstract:This paper points out more than 20 commentaries on Zhen Chuan's essays (essays written by Gui Youguang) in the Qing Dynasty and summarizes the major characteristics of his essays, which are concerned with life and kinship and which are structured like stories with prosaic plots, before it fully ascertains their status in the history of Chinese prose. The paper analyzes some of the main arguments which deny the value of Zhen Chuan's essays and assesses Gui Youguang in a new light. The writer of this paper argues that Gui Youguang was a pioneer who played a key role in the process of literary transformation where Chinese prose changed from topics of officials to those of folks, from mixed to pure literature, and from ancient literature to modern literature. If he is assessed in the light of his capacity as such a pioneer, it seems plausible that Gui Youguang can never be over-evaluated.

Abstract:In his manuscript Rong An Guan Zha Ji,Qian Zhongshu offers harsh criticism upon Xu Yueqing,the Neo-Confucian poet of the late Song dynasty.His critical remarks contain abundant poetic thoughts.With reference to the interrelated contents in Tan Yi Lu,Song shi Xuan zhu and Guan zhui Bian,we can interpretate the connotation of Mr.Qian's remarks.Meanwhile,we should also probe into Mr.Qian's brilliant views on the relationship among Neo-Confucianism,moral integrity,and the poetry of the late Song dynasty,and thus reexamine the position of such elements as Neo-Confucianism and moral integrity in Mr.Qian's poetry evaluation system.

Abstract:This thesis investigates the history of poetry criticism in humorous way and the traits of the book Poetry Criticism in Humorous and Serious Ways.Among all the styles of poetry criticism, poetry criticism in humorous way is quite unique.Regrettably, there is rarely any collection of such criticism.The period from Qing Dynasty to the Republic of China witnessed the boom of poetry criticism in humorous way, and Criticism of Poem in Humorous and Serious Ways was a representative work of that time.With its sarcastic and humorous language style, poetry criticism in humorous way cast light on the problems of society as well as the weakness in human nature, and in the meantime offered spiritual pleasure to its readers.In addition, this thesis probes into the author of Nanting Tetralogy.Among its four volumes, one is Criticism of Poem in Humorous and Serious Ways.It used to be believed that Li Boyuan was the author of this book, but some scholars have raised different opinions.This thesis offers further evidence to prove that the Li Boyuan is not the author of this book.

Abstract:Since Qing dynasty,scholars have discussed what the "Tang Shu" (Book of Tang ) quoted in Imperial Readings of the Taiping Era referred to. This paper reveals that it contains historical records officially compiled in Tang dynasty. In the meantime,it analyses the connotation of "Tang Shu" mentioned in the literature of Tang and Song dynasties. The study concludes that "Tang Shu" quoted in Imperial Readings of the Taiping Era should be the general name of Tang and Song literature and not a specific name of a book.

Abstract:It has been "criticized" and thereby discussed on that The Song of Justice is excluded out of Qian Zhongshu's Annotated Selection of Song Poetry. Why Ogawa Tamaki(小川环树), a Japanese scholar, apologized for Qian's right to stick to his criteria of literary criticism in a related commentary has remained an unsolved question until the recent publication of The Collection of Qian Zhongshu's Manuscripts. In fact, abundant poetizing contents are revealed in it, showing that Qian stressed on "literary ontology ". For this reason, Qian offered a copy of Annotated Selection of Song Poetry to Ogawa Tamaki and gave more than ninety alternations and amendments to it by handwriting, which has provided a vivid example for studying Annotated Selection of Song Poetry.

Abstract:It is unjustified to attribute all 29 Poetic s bamboo slips in Shanghai Museum to Confucius, for they consist of both Confucius' doctrine and that of his disciples. Most probably Zi Gao should be th e disciple who expounds Poetry. The other disciples after Zi Gao m ay propagate Confucius' and Zi Gao's doctrines on Poetry. After Confucius, many scholars of pre-Qin days transmit Poetry, with Zi Gao and his disciples included.
On the Relationship between A Classified Anthology of Popular Chinese Poems with Liu Kezhuang and Jianghu Poetic School

Abstract:Scholars have had different opinions on the editor and the value of the book entitled A Classified Anthology of Popular Chinese Poems in Tang and Song Dynasties(《分门纂类唐宋时贤千家诗选》),which was formerly inscribed as "compiled by Hou Cun".Through an analysis of the relationship between this anthology and the six different selected works of four-lined poems(绝句)from the Tang and Song Dynasties,which were compiled by Liu Kezhuang,we can find that this anthology was based on the six selected works of popular poems compiled by Liu,which reflected the poetic thinking of Jianghu Poetic School in its later period.Its seven-character four-lined style was most influential upon its later generations of poets,and was mostly inherited by the anthologies of popular poems compiled in its later periods.This anthology can be regarded as a collective reconstructing of the history of Tang and Song Poetry by the poetic circles in the late Southern Song Dynasty,whose mainstream was Jianghu Poetic School.Therefore this anthology had its important reference value in understanding the evolution of the history of poetry in the late Southern Song Dynasty,and also played a significant role in establishing the position of Song poems in the history of Chinese poetry.Besides,we discussed some changes of Jianghu Poetic School in the process of its development,and also pointed out the difference between this anthology and the poetic ideas of the four poets during the reign of the Emperor Yongjia(永嘉四灵).In this article,we also discussed the poetic thinking of Liu Kezhuang.

Abstract:Poetics was compiled by Confucius'disciples who have attended his lectures on Poetry. Most prob ably it should be Zi Xia according to relative reference books. Dwelling upon th is problem now, one can discern that though there is ideological inheritance amo ng Poetics, Preface to Poetry, and Mao Zhuan , there is considerable difference, especially regarding to Guan Ju and other six articles. Instead of being written by Zi Xia himself,Preface to Poetry is the product of the systematic research on Poetry starting from Zi Xia. Nevertheless, both Preface to Poetry and Mao Zhuan represent similarities with Poetics, which is of great importance for us to recognize the inh eritance of Poetics study.

Abstract:Yuan Shuoyou arrived in Chengdu as Sichuan special envoy on the March of the third year of Qingyuan(1197 AD),and left here three years later.During this period,he organized the compilation of "Chengdu Genre",which should be his greatest contribution to the inheritance of Shu culture.However,as a talented writer and poet,he has also created so many works in Shu.His poetry themes were not abundant,mostly antiphon poetry for his colleagues and travel poetry on his way to Shu,but these poems became a true record of Yuan Shuoyou’s living condition in Sichuan.And the poems were plain and direct in language,richness in imagery.They embodied the characteristics of this stage of his poetry.

Abstract:Gu Sili,one of the ＂fifteen gifted scholars in the south of Yangtze river＂,has written extensively.His book,Selected Poems of Yuan Dynasty,is a precious masterpiece of literature.The study of Gu Sili not only helps to comprehend Qing people＇s concept of Yuan poems,but contributes to the understanding of the transition of Qing poems from the early period to the middle and late periods.For this reason,in recent years,researchers turn to study Gu Sili.This paper makes a summary of the related studies of Gu Sili,and sums up their significance.Furthermore,some suggestions are offered in the expectation to promote the future studies of Gu Sili.

Abstract:Cai Zhengsun was an important poetic commentator of the last stage of the Song Dynasty and the first stage of the Yuan Dynasty, his ShiLin GuangJi was valued. About Cai Zhengsun's life, Guo Shaoyu's Song Shihua Kao told us no more than that he was a student of Xie Fangde. Quan Song Shi includes his two poems only. Cai's poetical theory was only reflected indirectly from the poems and comments of other people elected by him. Few know Tang Song QianJia LianZhu ShiGe 20 volumes edited by Cai Zhengsun, including poems of one thousand poets of the Tang and Song Dynasties, especially the poems of the last stage of the Song Dynasty. On the basis of this book, in the present essay, the author examines and tells Cai Zhengsun's birthday and life, compiles and discusses Cai's 58 poems, researches and comments his poetical theory.

Abstract:In this paper,the author philologically examines the manuscript of Lingzhai Shiji and the interrelated books written by the Korean diplomat Yu Tuk-kong,indicates the differences of the contents among all these editions so as to describe the society and the literati in high Qing.The author considers that after the visit to Beijing,the Korean diplomat made some alterations to his book Lingzhai Ji thus forming a new edition,and that Yantai Zaiyou Lu should contain both poems and explanations just like Luanyang Lu.The explanations of "Rehe Jixing Shi Sishijiu Shou" in Lingzhai Shiji are literally different from the ones in Luanyang Lu and Rehe Jixing Shi Zhu although they have the same origin.Comparing all these editions,we can see the other aspects of the history in the Qing Dynasty,and know more clearly of the true life of the literati and artists living in Yangzhou,Beijing and other cities with these descriptions from outside of China.
