Abstract:<p>The depletion of fossil fuel and increase of environmental pollution caused by internal combustion engine vehicles are big issues worldwide that need to be solved. One of promising solutions to address energy security and environmental pollution is utilization of electric vehicles. Electric bicycle is one of the electric vehicles attracting significant attention because of its many benefits. Many review papers showed potential of electric vehicles for wide application in future, but very few of them solely focused on electric bicycles. This paper shows in detail a review of history, development, design and research of electric bicycles, in which history, development together with markets of electric bicycles are firstly reviewed. The classification of electric bicycles in components and designs is reviewed in detail. The electric bicycle research fields are reviewed based on prior studies to give helpful information for scientists as well as researchers to develop electric bicycles further. Besides the reviews of electric bicycles mentioned above, the rules for utilization of electric bicycles in some world areas are discussed.</p>

Abstract:Abstract Purpose In the context of the implementation of the Mandatory National Standard for Safety Technical Specifications for Electric Bicycles (hereinafter referred to as the “New National Standard”), in order to meet the needs of the target group for daily traveling, a general method for electric bicycle design is proposed. Method Based on Hall three-dimensional structure theory, focusing on the time axis, comparing with the existing products in the market, referring to the traditional electric bicycle system design flow from product positioning, draft design, type selection, performance target determination, component performance parameters and boundary dimension, in-depth design, rendering, to model making, combined with marketing and user research, conduct electric bicycle design research with the theme of “young” and “future”. Results Propose a general method for the design of electric bicycles based on Hall three-dimensional structure. Conclusion The model method helps to feedback the design progress in time, finding the problems in the design flow, improving design efficiency and shortening the design cycle.

Abstract:In recent years, aiming to reduce the metropolitan air pollution caused by fossil fuel-powered vehicles, the electrification of transportation, such as electric vehicles (EVs) and electric buses (EBs), has attracted great attention from the automobile industry, academia, and public transportation. EBs, driven by decarbonized electricity, can reduce the air pollution and noise level. Besides, they can also recover electricity from regenerative braking. Recent years have witnessed continuous works on the topics of EB energy storage, power management, and charging scheduling. In this review, we have comprehensively surveyed three primary parts: important components; existing research topics; and open issues of EBs. Specifically, we first introduce the important components of EBs, including energy storage systems, powertrains, interleaving elements and electric motors, and driving cycles. Then, we review the existing research topics of EBs, including the energy storage system sizing, power/energy management, range remedy methods, charging design/scheduling, and trial projects. At last, extending from existing literatures, we further propose the future research opportunities and ongoing challenges, such as extending EV related research to EBs, EB charging demand modeling, and EB impact on power systems.
Review of Electric Vehicle Policies in China: Content Summary and Effect Analysis

Abstract:China has implemented numerous policies to develop electric vehicles (EVs). This paper focuses on evaluating the performance of these policies by systematically collecting and sorting them. These policies can be divided into three categories: finance policy, infrastructure promotion, and research and development (R & D) investment. In addition, the defects of EV policy mechanism are defined by being compared with the policy mechanisms in other countries. The results show that EV policy mechanism should be improved in China. For example, the subsidy and taxation policies are limited, and the goal formulation for EV infrastructure and the input for R & D investment are also unreasonable. Moreover, China need to establish uniform standards for the EV charging infrastructure and a charging pricing mechanism for EVs. Finally, we propose valuable suggestions to improve the performance of EV policies according to the empirical analysis.

Abstract:Motor systems represent significant energy power equipment for bolstering national economic development and defense construction,as well as the core infrastructure of equipment.In the context of China's " Global Manufacturing Power" strategy,improvements regarding motor system efficiency,reliability and adaptability are crucial to the promotion of core competitiveness in the equipment manufacturing industry.In response to the national strategy concerning high-end equipment,"973" program entitled " Baisc Research on Reliable Operation and Intelligent Control for High-Efficiency and High Performance Motor Systems",centered on three critical points:integrated motor system design methods and high-efficiency operation theories,characteristics and rules of faults and reliable operation mechanisms,and feature interaction mechanism and intelligence control under extreme conditions.The program has achieved various research outcomes of worldwide significance.This paper presents an analysis of this program with respect to its overview,symbolic advancements and practical benefits,in addition to a prospectus of the follow-up research.
Electric Two-Wheelers in China

Abstract:Despite rapid economic growth in China during the past decade and the rise in personal car ownership, most Chinese still rely on two-wheeled vehicles (2WVs) or public transport for commuting. The majority of these 2WVs are bicycles. In recent years, concern about poor air quality in urban areas and rising energy costs have caused cities to ban gasoline-powered scooters in city centers. Simultaneously, a new 2WV mode emerged to fill the void: the electric bike (e-bike). This shift to e-bikes is occurring rapidly throughout China, especially in its cities. E-bike sales reached 10 million per year in 2005 as more bike and public transit users shifted to this mode. City planners and policy makers are undecided on how to plan for and regulate e-bikes because it is not yet clear what effect they will have on travel behavior, public transportation use, and safety. To begin to understand these effects, bike and e-bike users were surveyed in Shijiazhuang, a medium-size city with particularly high 2WV use, to identify differences in travel characteristics and attitudes. The following conclusions were reached (partial list): (a) e-bikes are enabling people to commute longer distances, with important implications for energy use, accessibility, and urban expansion of cities; (b) people underserved by public transportation are shifting to e-bikes; and (c) women feel safer crossing intersections on an e-bike compared with a regular bike, but they have strong reservations about increasing e-bike speed capability.

Abstract:The exhaust emission of conventional oil-fueled vehicles is analyzed in terms of fuel consumption calculation and the existing test results;the emission of electric vehicles is reflected in that of power plants based on the calculation of its power transmission efficiency.Then the emission as well as the noise pollution of electric and conventional vehicles are compared and analyzed.And the importance of developing electric vehicles for environmental improvement is pointed out.

Abstract:Global warming has been increasingly concerning, and international society has been taking various measures to mitigate this issue. Since the electric vehicle has important and generally beneficial impacts on environment protection, grid construction, and operation economical efficiency improvement, many countries have stressed the status of electric vehicle promotion in future planning. As China is the world’s largest carbon dioxide emitter, the Chinese government has taken various acts to reduce emissions, of which promoting electric vehicle is an effective one. This paper attempts to present a critical review of the current EV situations including the market sales, charging infrastructure, battery performances and policies in China. The survey of customer preferences and acceptance to electric vehicle indicate that purchasing behaviors are affected by four factors: charge inconvenience, short battery range, cost and psychological factors. According to the China’s situation, recommendations including diversified energy supplement approaches, time-of-use charging price mechanism, vehicle-to-grid technology and enlarge price subsidy scope are proposed to accelerate the development of the electric vehicle industry.

Abstract:Electric bicycles, also known as e-bikes, are future bicycles with an electric motor as a locomotive. Electric bicycles using rechargeable batteries can go from 25 to 32 km/h, while more powerful varieties can go more than 45 km/h (28 mph). The research method begins with making an electric bicycle with a 350-watt BLDC motor powered by a 36 V 21 Ah battery, which theoretically will get up to 2 hours of battery use at maximum speed. The test was carried out in terms of travel speed fuel consumption on flat or uphill road conditions. After all the tests have been completed, data on the results of the performance of the electric bicycle can be obtained, and then a graph of the performance characteristics of the electric bicycle can be made. After conducting data analysis based on the graph of the performance characteristics of this electric bicycle, it is concluded that the use of the smallest gear is effective when the electric bicycle is starting, but the low speed and the largest gear are used when the motorbike is running to get a high speed of 32 km. The success of this research will impact Reducing dependency on fossil fuel vehicles.

Abstract:Abstract This paper presents a review on the recent research and technical progress of electric motor systems and electric powertrains for new energy vehicles. Through the analysis and comparison of direct current motor, induction motor, and synchronous motor, it is found that permanent magnet synchronous motor has better overall performance; by comparison with converters with Si-based IGBTs, it is found converters with SiC MOSFETs show significantly higher efficiency and increase driving mileage per charge. In addition, the pros and cons of different control strategies and algorithms are demonstrated. Next, by comparing series, parallel, and power split hybrid powertrains, the series–parallel compound hybrid powertrains are found to provide better fuel economy. Different electric powertrains, hybrid powertrains, and range-extended electric systems are also detailed, and their advantages and disadvantages are described. Finally, the technology roadmap over the next 15 years is proposed regarding traction motor, power electronic converter and electric powertrain as well as the key materials and components at each time frame.

Abstract:Aiming at the diversified demands for the functions of e-bikes,the basic and potential functions of the e-bikes were analyzed,and a control system embedded with ARM microcontroller LPC2214 was designed for the e-bikes driven by brushless DC motor.With the system,the basic functions of e-bikes were realized and extensibility of functions was enhanced.The hardware and software for the key functions were expounded.Appropriate control strategy was applied to improve the basic functions.The bike could be set to work in electric,cruise or boost mode and its operating states were displayed on the TFT,thus the user experience was improved.The results indicate that the speed regulation is steady and rapid,the man-machine interface is friendly,the hardware is concise and the protection functions are reliable.

Abstract:Human development has accelerated the consumption of resources, and the lack of energy is a problem that human beings have to face. With the progress of science and technology and the development of the economy, and the launch of electric vehicles from various manufacturers, the technology and safety of batteries are the most concerned issues [1]. As a new battery product, blade battery has gradually improved its competitiveness at home and even abroad. How do its raw materials, cells, modules, management system and safety design stand out among many manufacturers are of great importance [2]. By studying some advantages of blade batteries, it can further infiltrate some BYD technologies into other battery manufacturers and finally, achieve common technological progress. By comparing examples and using research data, this paper studies BYD's blade batteries and batteries of other manufacturers. Through research, people can find that BYD's blade battery does have obvious advantages over other manufacturers in technology and safety. However, the temperature control of the battery can be further improved.

Abstract:By means of a development of an e-bike sharing system the Electromobility Project wants to provide an alternative way of comfortable transportation for students and staff of the CTU, primarily to commute between different campuses. The research for this project contains at least three different fields of study, namely electric vehicle and docking station development, intelligent transport systems and management and economics of transportation and telecommunication. After briefly stating general requirements for the sharing system, this paper focuses on the development of the electric bicycle. First an ideal bike design is defined. Then necessary motor power and battery capacity are calculated by estimating characteristics of cycling in Prague. A prototype was developed by converting a normal bicycle to an electric bicycle. Being equipped with devices for e-bike monitoring, controlling and data recording for a post trip analysis, this prototype is also intended to have an educational value for future students in the project. Results consist of an electrical bicycle configuration that matches the requirements and a sketch of an ideal e-bike for this project.

Abstract:A new model of power-assisted bicycle has been designed, set up and tested. The main innovative solutions for the pedelec prototype are described in the present paper: the electric motor position; the new mechanical transmission; the low cost measurement system of the driving torque; the special test rig. Differently from a common approach, in which the electric motor is located on one of the three hubs of the bicycle, the idea of the pedelec prototype consists of an electrical motor in the central position that, by means of a bevel gear, transmits the torque on the central hub. The other innovative solution is represented by the motion transmission from the motor to the pedal shaft, achieved by two different gearboxes: the first one is a planetary gearbox and the second one is a simple bevel gear. The pedelec prototype contains also a new low cost measurement system of the driving torque based on a strain gauge load cell located on one side of the rear wheel, between the hub and the frame. Moreover, a commercial cycling simulator has been suitably modified in order to properly install the different sensors for the measurement of the performance of the pedelec. The test rig is able to reproduce an aforethought route or paths acquired during road tests, to measure the performance of the e-bike in terms of instantaneous power and speed. The experimental test rig can simulate the resistant torque of a predetermined track and it aims to test and to optimize the control strategy available on the electronic control unit. The authors have also conducted an environmental analysis of the developed pedelec, in particular comparing the e-bike with a thermal moped, in terms of environmental impact.

Abstract:Electric vehicles,regarded as a new kind of environment friendly cars,have been widely concerned.To promise a stable and efficient operation of electric vehicles,battery management system (BMS) is necessary.The research achievements of both domestic and international electric vehicle development were introduced.A typical frame of battery management system was given based on the development achievements of the current battery management system,and the simple module distribution of the system was introduced.The functions and realization methods of SOC estimation,thermal management and balance management were summarized and analyzed.After analyzing the performance and characteristics of many typical battery management modules,the research and development direction of the electric vehicle battery management system was prospected.
