Abstract:Objective To evaluate the effect of cyciosporin A (CsA) on the functional recovery of stunned myocardium. Method A myocardial stunning model using isolated rat hearts was introduced to investigate the effects of CsA on stunned myocardium. Results The results appeared that, CsA in supposed concentration showed neither attenuation of myocardial stunning in isolated rat hearts subjected to 20 minutes ischemia followed by 15 minutes reperfusion, nor beneficial effects on the functional recovery of stunned myocardium subjected to 30 minutes ischemia followed by 15 minutes reperfusion. Besides, CsA even tends to aggravate the functional derangement. Studies find that intermitochondrial calcium overload caused by CsA may possibly be the key to its devastating effect. Conclusion The negative value of CsA in ischemia reperfusion hearts deserved further studying and confirming.
