Observation on Histological Structure of Terrapin's Digestive Tract

Abstract:The histological structure of terrapin′s digestive tract was observed using H.E staining,AKP and PAS.It was shown that there were intraepithelial capillary in its esophagus.No glands were seen in the lamina porpria and submucosa of esophagus,whose tall columnar epithelia cells were mucous.The cardiac,fundus and pyloric of stomach couldn′t be distinguished on the mucous surface.There was only one kind of gastric glandular cells,which was eosinophil,and it hadn′t differentiated into parietal cell and chief cell.Although the length of small intestine was six seventh of that of the whole intestine tract,the structure from the front to the behind was so identical that duodenum,jejunum and ileum could not be distinguished.The small intestine had developed villi,but had not central lacteal and intestinal glands.A main fold which ran through the small intestine was observed.In the large intestine,folds and villi were dispersed and short,and no glands were found.The results showed that the fundamental morphology and structure and distribution of various cells of terrapin′s digestive tract were different from that of mammal and bird,and not similar to that of other aquatic animals either.
