Abstract:With the arrival of 2012, the journal of Frontiers of Environmental Science & Engineering in China has stepped into the sixth year since its birth. It is a great pleasure to express sincere thanks to all of our authors, editors, reviewers and readers who have supported us for the past five years, and wish you have a very promising and happy new year. Environmental issues draw global attention. China is also very concerned about these issues, and has strengthened communication and cooperation with other countries. The goal of our journal is to provide an international communication platform of high quality. Here I am pleased to announce two pieces of good news. First, our journal will change its name from the Frontiers of Environmental Science & Engineering in China to the Frontiers of Environmental Science & Engineering, representing a step forward as an international journal. Second, the journal will change from a quarterly to a bi-monthly journal in order to provide more opportunities for environmental researchers to communicate and to publish their excellent works. In 2011, we have selected three best papers as The Annual Best Paper in recognition for the most influential papers and with an aim to promote the basic knowledge of environmental sciences and the development of engineering technologies. In 2012, we will continue with The Annual Best Paper contest in order to draw more attention to the journal, and to encourage innovations in the environmental fields. Meanwhile, we will continue to make efforts to further improve our journal. Again, we would like to express our heartfelt thanks for your support. In 2012, we will improve the quality and scientific impact of our journal, and provide more opportunities for environmental researchers to communicate. Abstract:With the economic growth, the environmental pollution is still a challenge for sustainable development all over the world.In order to prevent, reduce and remediate the various environmental problems, it is crucial to develop innovative and efficient materials to remove and decompose pollutants from air or water in that the efficient adsorbents and catalysts are playing an important role in the process of physical and chemical reactions.Therefore, the editors of FESE proposed to publish one special issue, and report the original research and review papers about advanced adsorbents and catalysts that are potentially or widely applied in environmental protection.The contents of the articles include the preparation and application of environmental adsorbents and catalysts, which are mainly applied in air pollution control and wastewater treatment.The scientific topics of the articles include exhaust gas purification (such as DeNO x catalysis from mobile and stationary sources, catalytic oxidation of CO and VOC), the removal of inorganic and organic pollutants from wastewater by some novel adsorbents and catalysts, indoor air quality improvement via photo-, plasma-and electro-catalysis for the removal of indoor air pollutants, and CO 2 capture using various adsorbents.We believe that the special issue will promote the information communication among leading researchers working on adsorbents and catalysts for controlling air pollution and improving water quality, and contribute to the well understanding between environmental catalysis/adsorption and environmental sciences.

Abstract:Hyperspectral imaging (HSI) has emerged as a promising, advanced technology in remote sensing and has demonstrated great potential in the exploitation of a wide variety of data. In particular, its capability has expanded from unmixing data samples and detecting targets at the subpixel scale to finding endmembers, which generally cannot be resolved by multispectral imaging. Accordingly, a wealth of new HSI research has been conducted and reported in the literature in recent years. The aim of this Special Issue “Advances in Hyperspectral Data Exploitation“ is to provide a forum for scholars and researchers to publish and share their research ideas and findings to facilitate the utility of hyperspectral imaging in data exploitation and other applications. With this in mind, this Special Issue accepted and published 19 papers in various areas, which can be organized into 9 categories, including I: Hyperspectral Image Classification, II: Hyperspectral Target Detection, III: Hyperspectral and Multispectral Fusion, IV: Mid-wave Infrared Hyperspectral Imaging, V: Hyperspectral Unmixing, VI: Hyperspectral Sensor Hardware Design, VII: Hyperspectral Reconstruction, VIII: Hyperspectral Visualization, and IX: Applications.

Abstract:Taking highly cited papers in Journal of Southwest Forestry University from 2002 to 2006 as study objects,statistical analysis done with indicators such as author groups shows: internal papers account for a higher percentage of total of five years,but the proportions of every year's took on a decline as time flowed.The proportion of papers supported by national grade fund had increased yearly.The region distribution of the authors has got further expanded,who still mostly have backgrounds of university.Co-author accounts for 86.7% in average.From the perspective of subject distribution,forestry basic subjects,horticulture and biology etc.possess high ratios.

Abstract:The Virtual Special Issue (VSI) “Antibiotics and Heavy Metals in the Environment: Facing the Challenge” received more than 100 submissions from research teams around the world. Finally, more than 50 papers were accepted and published. These very interesting research papers allow going ahead in the knowledge of different aspects which determine the fate of antibiotics and heavy metals in the environmental. The success of the VSI, as well as reports from scientific databases, indicate that this field of research is clearly growing, which is expected to continue, especially considering emerging pollutants as a whole.
