Abstract:Phylogenetic and taxonomic status of an alpine endemic grass, Littledalea alaica classified within Bromeae, still remains to be elucidated. The complete chloroplast (cp) genome sequences play an important role in resolving systematics and evolution of grass. Here, we first performed and presented the cp genome of L. alaica using Illumina HiSeq4000 platform in order to solve its complex systematic position. The total genome size is 136,840 bp in length and has a typical quadripartite structure with a pair of inverted repeat regions (IR, 21,475 bp) separated by the small (SSC, 12,858 bp) and large (LSC, 81,032 bp) single copy regions. It encodes 142 genes including 96 protein-coding genes, 38 tRNAs genes and eight rRNAs genes. The overall A + T content of L. alaica cp genome is 61.5%. The maximum likelihood phylogenetic analysis based on 29 cp genomes indicated that L. alaica is sister to the clade formed by Triticeae.
