Abstract:We study the interaction between quasi-modes in dielectric cavities of stadium shape. We show that dependence of two coupled modes on the cavity deformation can be described by the coupled-level model, and extract complex coupling constant. Depending on the value of coupling constant we observe several kinds of quasi-mode evolution.

Abstract:A mesoscopic circuit, where field quantization (e.g., coherent states and squeezed states) can be exhibited, is one of the ideal quantum systems for manifesting diverse quantum field theoretical phenomena and thermally statistical characteristics. Because of inevitable electromagnetic coupling (e.g., mutual capacitor coupling and mutual inductor coupling) in two neighboring mesoscopic electric circuits, quantum effects relevant to mesoscopic circuit coupling may play a key role in some devices of quantum information processing. Such a circuit coupling can lead to circuit entangled states, where the Fock number states of energy quanta in different circuits are entangled with each other. Since the time dependence in parameters of coupled-circuit Hamiltonian would result from environmental perturbations (e.g., temperature fluctuations in devices) or from some controllable manipulation (e.g., an incident ultrasonic wave), the circuit entangled states would evolve due to these external conditions. Time evolution of entangled states in coupled mesoscopic circuits is considered within a framework of time-dependent quantum theoretical formalism. Note that an applied photon field can also be coupled to such quantum entangled circuits. Then it is possible that an effect of entanglement transfer (i.e., transportation of superposition coefficients in the entangled state) from the quantum mesoscopic coupled LC circuits to the applied external photon field would also occur under some proper parameter conditions. The present characteristics of both quantized coupled mesoscopic circuits and entanglement transfer can also be found in some alternative microscopic- and mesoscopic-scale devices such as the systems in cavity quantum electrodynamics (QED).

Abstract:We present a numerical study of the high-quality modes in two-dimensional dielectric stadium microcavities. Although the classical ray mechanics is fully chaotic in a stadium billiard, all of the high-quality modes show a ''strong scar'' around unstable periodic orbits. When the deformation (ratio of the length of the straight segments over the diameter of the half circles) is small, the high-quality modes correspond to whispering-gallery-type trajectories and their quality factors decrease monotonically with increasing deformation. At large deformation, each high-quality mode is associated with multiple unstable periodic orbits. Its quality factor changes nonmonotonically with the deformation, and there exists an optimal deformation for each mode at which its quality factor reaches a local maximum. This unusual behavior is attributed to the interference of waves propagating along different constituent orbits that could minimize light leakage out of the cavity.

Abstract:We study the excitation conditions of the supported field modes, as well as the spontaneous decay property of a two-level quantum emitter coupled to photonic structures containing topological insulators (TIs) and left-handed materials. Within the proper field quantization scheme, the spontaneous decay rates of dipoles with different polarizations are expressed in forms of the Green's functions. We find that in the proposed structure, the variation in the topological magnetoelectric polarizability (TMP) has a deterministic effect on the excitation of different field modes. As the result, the spontaneous decay property of the quantum emitter can be engineered. For a dipole placed in different spatial regions, the spontaneous decay feature indicates a dominant contribution from the waveguide modes, the surface plasmon modes or the free vacuum modes. Moreover, a special kind of the surface plasmon modes displaying asymmetric density of states at the interfaces, becomes legal in the presence of nontrivial TIs. These phenomena manifest the feasibility in controlling dipole emissions via manipulations of the topological magnetoelectric (TME) effect. Our results have potential applications in quantum technologies relied on the accurate control over light-matter interactions.

Abstract:The evolution of an initially squeezed electromagnetic (EM) field was studied by using the Dicke model and the perturbation approach. The study covers both one-photon and two-photon interaction between the squeezed field and the cooperative atomic system. The results show that during the early evolution stage in the one-photon Dicke model the nonclassical statistical property (squeezing) gradually decays. But under certain conditions in the two-photon model the squeezing will be enhanced. The physical meaning of these phenomena is discussed.

Abstract:Quantum entanglement in mechanical systems is not only a key signature of macroscopic quantum effects but has wide applications in quantum technologies. Here we propose an effective approach for creating strong steady-state entanglement between two directly coupled mechanical oscillators (or a mechanical oscillator and a microwave resonator) in a modulated optomechanical system. The entanglement is achieved by combining the processes of a cavity cooling and the two-mode parametric interaction, which can surpass the bound on the maximal stationary entanglement from the two-mode parametric interaction. In principle, our proposal allows one to cool the system from an initial thermal state to an entangled state with high purity by a monochromatic driving laser. Also, the obtained entangled state can be used to implement the continuous-variable teleportation with high fidelity. Moreover, our proposal is robust against the thermal fluctuations of the mechanical modes under the condition of strong optical pumping.

Abstract:The dynamical evolution of light in asymmetric microcavities is of primary interest for broadband optical coupling and enhanced light-matter interaction. Here, we propose and demonstrate that the chaos-assisted photon transport can be engineered by regular periodic orbits in the momentum-position phase space of an asymmetric microcavity. Remarkably, light at different initial states experiences different evolution pathways, following either regular-chaotic channels or pure chaotic channels. Experimentally, we develop a nanofiber technique to accurately control the excitation position of light in the phase space. We find that the coupling to high-Q whispering gallery modes depends strongly on excitation in islands or chaotic sea, showing a good agreement with the theoretical prediction. The engineered chaotic photon transport has potential in light manipulation, broadband photonic devices, and phase-space reconstruction.

Abstract:In this paper, we show that by partial tracing the pure state in higher dimension one can deduce the mixed state of light field. In this paper the pure state in higher dimension is a three-mode squeezed state S23σS31τ000000S31−1τS23−1σ, while the mixed state's density operator is sech2σsech2τea2†a3†tanhσsech2σtanh2τa3†a30220ea2a3tanhσ , which involves both squeezing and chaotic properties of optical field. We further explain how such kind of light field can be generated by passing a two-mode squeezed light though a single-mode dissipative channel, its Wigner function is discussed by using the coherent state representation. Our work provides an important method, which can be used to theoretically find more optical fields in quantum communication and quantum optics.

Abstract:The heart of the light field theory at finite temperatures is the introduce of a thermal vacuum state, which is also the basis for studying the statistical properties of quantum light fields. Based on Takahashi and Umezawa's thermal chaotic field dynamics theory (TFD), this paper introduces a " fictitious mode" to represent the degrees of freedom of the thermal environment, then the thermal vacuum of the displaced thermal state (DTS) is proposed and constructed by the integration within an ordered product (IWOP) in the extended space, and we obtained the expected value of the photon number, fluctuation, second-order coherence, Wigner function. Finally, it is found that the photon number of the system is decreased at a rate of due to the interaction of the DTS with the surrounding thermal environment by calculating the photon number diffusion.

Two-stage relaxation of operators through domain wall and magnon dynamics

Abstract:The out-of-time ordered correlator (OTOC) has become a popular probe for quantum information spreading and thermalization. In systems with local interactions, the OTOC defines a characteristic butterfly lightcone that separates a regime not yet disturbed by chaos from one where time-evolved operators and the OTOC approach their equilibrium value. This relaxation has been shown to proceed in two stages, with the first stage exhibiting an extensive timescale and a decay rate slower than the gap of the transfer matrix -- known as the ``phantom eigenvalue". In this work, we investigate the two-stage relaxation of the OTOC towards its equilibrium value in various local quantum circuits. We apply a systematic framework based on an emergent statistical model, where the dynamics of two single-particle modes -- a domain wall and a magnon -- govern the decay rates. Specifically, a configuration with coexisting domain wall and magnon modes generates the phantom rate in the first stage, and competition between these modes determines the second stage. We also examine this relaxation within the operator cluster picture. The magnon modes translates into a bound state of clusters and domain wall into a random operator, giving consistent rates. Finally, we extend our findings from random in time circuits to a broad class of Floquet models.

Chaotic dynamics under the influence of synthetic magnetic field in optomechanical system

Abstract:The optomechanical systems produce chaotic behaviour due to nonlinear interaction between photons and phonons, and the same systems are used to understand the synthetic fields as well. Here, we report on the study of chaotic behaviour in the presence of a phononic synthetic magnetic field in a closed loop configuration consisting of a single optical mode and two mechanical modes. The modulation phase of the mechanical coupling between the two mechanical modes plays a critical role in determining the mechanical and optical intensity dynamics in the nonlinear regime. Our study shows the dark mode breaking effect in the presence of a synthetic magnetic field, which brings about a complex way of mechanical energy exchange that causes the cavity field to alternate between chaotic and regular behaviour periodically in temporal domain. However in the stronger nonlinear regime the temporal dynamics demonstrate predominantly chaotic behaviour. Besides, with the advent of advanced fabrication technologies, this study holds promises in developing phase tunable integrated low-power chaotic light sources to support efficient optical secure communication systems.

Abstract:A quantum theory of a two-mode two-photon correlated spontaneous-emission laser is developed. It is shown that the quantum-noise quenching and even nonclassical effects can occur in both the average phase and relative amplitude of the two fields. Near threshold we find a maximum of 50% intracavity squeezing in the two-photon transition limit, with each of the average phase and the relative amplitude contributing 25% squeezing.

Abstract:Abstract The piezoelectric optomechanical devices supply a promising experimental platform to realize the coherent and effective control and measurement of optical circuits working in Terahertz (THz) frequencies via superconducting electron devices typically working in Radio (MHz) frequencies. However, quantum fluctuations are unavoidable when the size of mechanical oscillators enter into the nanoscale. The consequences of the noisy environment are still challenging due to the lack of analytical tools. In this paper, a semi-classical and full-quantum model of piezoelectric optomechanical systems coupled to a noisy bosonic quantum environment are introduced and solved in terms of quantum-state diffusion (QSD) trajectories in the non-Markovian regime. We show that the noisy environment, particularly the central frequency of the environment, can enhance the entanglement generation between optical cavities and LC circuits in some parameter regimes. Moreover, we observe the critical points in the coefficient functions, which can lead the different behaviors in the system. Besides, we also witness the entanglement transfers between macroscopic objects due to the memory effect of the environment. Our work can be applied in the fields of electric/ optical switches, and long-distance distribution in a large-scale quantum network.

Abstract:Chaotic dynamics in optical microcavities, governed dominantly by manifolds, is of great importance for both fundamental studies and photonic applications. Here, we report the experimental observation of a stable manifold characterized by energy and momentum evolution in the nearly chaotic phase space of an asymmetric optical microcavity. By controlling the radius of a fiber coupler and the coupling azimuth of the cavity, corresponding to the momentum and position of the input light, the injected light can in principle excite the system from a desired position in phase space. It is found that once the input light approaches the stable manifold, the angular momentum of the light experiences a rapid increase, and the energy is confined in the cavity for a long time.Consequently, the distribution of the stable manifold is visualized by the output power and the coupling depth to high-Q modes extracted from the transmission spectra, which is consistent with theoretical predictions by the ray model. This work opens a new path to understand the chaotic dynamics and reconstruct the complex structure in phase space, providing a new paradigm of manipulating photons in wave chaos.

Abstract:As physicists continue to find approaches to achieve quantum squeezing enhancement, a key challenge is to identify the specific parameters of the squeezing operator and their boundary conditions. This paper employs the method of integration within an ordered product of operator (IWOP) in quantum mechanics to solve this problem for two independent parameters. First, the phase space correspondence for enhanced squeezing is investigated, where represent the coordinate and momentum, respectively. Then, the squeezing-enhanced state is theoretically obtained by finding the generalized squeezing operator . It is demonstrated that the characteristic of the phase space transformation is . Here, are two independent parameters, and they must satisfy to achieve enhanced squeezing of the quadrature operator. Further, the integral solution of the dissipation master equation is adopted to analyze the attenuation of this type of squeezed field. Meanwhile, the paper presents the canonical decomposition of the enhanced squeezing operator . Our research provides physicists with more refined insights to enhance the squeezing effect with more precision.

Abstract:A new form of induced transparency enabled by dynamical tunneling coupling of continuous chaos and discrete regular modes in a slightly deformed optical microcavity is demonstrated experimentally. An optical beam is focused on the cavity boundary and tuned on resonance with a high‐Q mode, which leads to destructive interference for the excitation of chaotic field and induces a transparency in the transmission. The experimental results are in excellent agreement with a model based on quantum scattering theory. This tunneling‐induced transparency is accompanied by extremely steep normal dispersion, and holds great potential in slow light and enhanced nonlinear interactions.
