Abstract:In this paper we review all the main known results about mean curvature flows with initial surfaces symplectic in a Kähler-Einstein surface, including published results and new results obtained recently. We also propose some problems that we think are very interesting.

Abstract:Some geometric behaviours of complete solutions to mean curvature flow before the singularities occur are studied. The author obtains the estimates of the rate of the distance between two fixed points and the derivatives of the second fundamental form. By use of a new maximum principle, some geometric properties at infinity are obtained.

Abstract:In this paper we study the regularity and singularity of the mean curvature flow of closed, smooth, embedded hypersurfaces in the Euclidean space with positive mean curvature, with an attempt to understand the geometry of first time singularities. First we consider the mean curvature flow of graphs and convex hypersurfaces. Then we consider the special blow-up solutions at the maximal mean curvature points and obtain self-similar solutions at type I singularities and translating solutions at type II singularities. Finally we show that a general blow-up sequence converges along a subsequence to a convex limit flow, and give a classification of ancient convex solutions. 2000 Mathematics Subject Classification: 53C44, 53A10, 35J60.

Abstract:In this paper, we study a class of contracting flows of closed, convex hypersurfaces in the Euclidean space $${\mathbb {R}}^{n+1}$$ with speed $$r^{\alpha } \sigma _k$$, where $$\sigma _k$$ is the k-th elementary symmetric polynomial of the principal curvatures, $$\alpha \in {\mathbb {R}}^1$$, and r is the distance from the hypersurface to the origin. If $$\alpha \ge k+1$$, we prove that the flow exists for all time, preserves the convexity and converges smoothly after normalisation to a sphere centred at the origin. If $$\alpha <k+1$$, a counterexample is given for the above convergence. In the case $$k=1$$ and $$\alpha \ge 2$$, we also prove that the flow converges to a round point if the initial hypersurface is weakly mean-convex and star-shaped.

Abstract:Under the hypothesis of mean curvature flows of hypersurfaces, we prove that the limit of the smooth rescaling of the singularity is weakly convex. It is a generalization of the result due to G. Huisken and C. Sinestrari in [5]. These a-priori bounds are satisfied for mean convex hypersurfaces in locally symmetric Riemannian manifolds with nonnegative sectional curvature.

Abstract:Let M n be a smooth, compact manifold without boundary, and F 0: M n → R n+1 a smooth immersion which is convex. The one-parameter families F(·, t): M n × [0, T) → R n+1 of hypersurfaces M t n = F(·, t)(M n ) satisfy an initial value problem dt/dF(·, t) = −H k (·, t)ν(·, t), F(·, 0) = F 0(·), where H is the mean curvature and ν(·, t) is the outer unit normal at F(·, t), such that −H ν = $\overrightarrow H $ is the mean curvature vector, and k > 0 is a constant. This problem is called H k -flow. Such flow will develop singularities after finite time. According to the blow-up rate of the square norm of the second fundamental forms, the authors analyze the structure of the rescaled limit by classifying the singularities as two types, i.e., Type I and Type II. It is proved that for Type I singularity, the limiting hypersurface satisfies an elliptic equation; for Type II singularity, the limiting hypersurface must be a translating soliton.

Abstract:In this paper, we mainly study the mean curvature flow in Kähler surfaces with positive holomorphic sectional curvatures. We prove that if the ratio of the maximum and the minimum of the holomorphic sectional curvatures is less than 2, then there exists a positive constant $\delta$ depending on the ratio such that $\cos\alpha\geq\delta$ is preserved along the flow.

Abstract:Recently, Pipoli and Sinestrari [Pipoli, G. and Sinestrari, C., Mean curvature flow of pinched submanifolds of ℝℙ n , Comm. Anal. Geom. , 25 , 2017, 799–846] initiated the study of convergence problem for the mean curvature flow of small codimension in the complex projective space ℝℙ m . The purpose of this paper is to develop the work due to Pipoli and Sinestrari, and verify a new convergence theorem for the mean curvature flow of arbitrary codimension in the complex projective space. Namely, the authors prove that if the initial submanifold in ℝℙ m satisfies a suitable pinching condition, then the mean curvature flow converges to a round point in finite time, or converges to a totally geodesic submanifold as t → ∞. Consequently, they obtain a differentiable sphere theorem for submanifolds in the complex projective space.

The Kähler angle of [Formula: see text] in [Formula: see text] is introduced by Chern and Wolfson [Am. J. Math. 105 (1983) 59–83]. Let [Formula: see text] evolve along the Kähler–Ricci flow, and [Formula: see text] in [Formula: see text] evolve along the mean-curvature flow. We show that the Kähler angle [Formula: see text] satisfies the evolution equation [Formula: see text] where [Formula: see text] is the scalar curvature of [Formula: see text]. The equation implies that if the initial surface is symplectic (Lagrangian), then, along the flow, [Formula: see text] is always symplectic (Lagrangian) at each time [Formula: see text], which we call a symplectic (Lagrangian) Kähler–Ricci mean-curvature flow. In this paper, we mainly study the symplectic Kähler–Ricci mean-curvature flow.

Abstract:In the last 15 years, White and Huisken-Sinestrari developed a far-reaching structure theory for the mean curvature flow of mean convex hypersurfaces. Their papers provide a package of estimates and structural results that yield a precise description of singularities and of high curvature regions in a mean convex flow. In the present paper, we give a new treatment of the theory of mean convex (and k-convex) flows. This includes: (1) an estimate for derivatives of curvatures, (2) a convexity estimate, (3) a cylindrical estimate, (4) a global convergence theorem, (5) a structure theorem for ancient solutions, and (6) a partial regularity theorem. Our new proofs are both more elementary and substantially shorter than the original arguments. Our estimates are local and universal. A key ingredient in our new approach is the new non- collapsing result of Andrews. Some parts are also inspired by the work of Perelman. In a forthcoming paper, we will give a new construction of mean curvature flow with surgery based on the theorems established in the present paper.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the singularities of the mean curvature flow from a symplectic surface or from a Lagrangian surface in a Käahler-Einstein surface. We prove that the blow-up flow Σ s ∞ at a singular point (X 0, T 0) of a symplectic mean curvature flow Σ t or of a Lagrangian mean curvature flow Σ t is a nontrivial minimal surface in ℝ4, if Σ −∞ ∞ is connected.

Abstract:Let Σ be an immersed symplectic surface in CP 2 with constant holomorphic sectional curvature k > 0. Suppose Σ evolves along the mean curvature flow in CP 2. In this paper, we show that the symplectic mean curvature flow exists for long time and converges to a holomorphic curve if the initial surface satisfies ${|A|^2 \leq \lambda|H|^2 + \frac{2\lambda-1}{\lambda}k}$ and ${\cos\alpha\geq\sqrt{\frac{7\lambda-3}{3\lambda}}\left(\frac{1}{2} < \lambda\leq\frac{2}{3}\right) {\rm or} |A|^2\leq \frac{2}{3}|H|^2+\frac{4}{5}k\cos\alpha\, {\rm and} \cos\alpha\geq 1-\varepsilon}$ , for some ${\varepsilon}$.

Abstract:Mean curvature flows of hypersurfaces have been extensively studied and there are various different approaches and many beautiful results. However, relatively little is known about mean curvature flows of submanifolds of higher codimensions. This notes starts with some basic materials on submanifold geometry, and then introduces mean curvature flows in general dimensions and co-dimensions. The related techniques in the so called "blow-up" analysis are also discussed. At the end, we present some global existence and convergence results for mean curvature flows of two-dimensional surfaces in four-dimensional ambient spaces.

Abstract: Let $(M,\bar{g})$ be a K\"ahler surface with a constant holomorphic sectional curvature $k>0$, and $\Sigma$ an immersed symplectic surface in $M$. Suppose $\Sigma$ evolves along the mean curvature flow in $M$. In this paper, we show that the symplectic mean curvature flow exists for long time and converges to a holomorphic curve if the initial surface satisfies $|A|^2\leq 2/3|H|^2+1/2 k$ and $\cos\alpha\geq \frac{\sqrt{30}}{6}$ or $|A|^2\leq 2/3 |H|^2+4/5 k\cos\alpha$ and $\cos\alpha\ge251/265$.

Abstract: Let $(M,\overline{g})$ be a K\"ahler surface, and $\Sigma$ an immersed surface in $M$. The K\"ahler angle of $\Sigma$ in $M$ is introduced by Chern-Wolfson \cite{CW}. Let $(M,\overline{g}(t))$ evolve along the K\"ahler-Ricci flow, and $\Sigma_t$ in $(M,\overline{g}(t))$ evolve along the mean curvature flow. We show that the K\"ahler angle $\alpha(t)$ satisfies the evolution equation: $$ (\frac{\partial}{\partial t}-\Delta)\cos\alpha=|\overline\nabla J_{\Sigma_t}|^2\cos\alpha+R\sin^2\alpha\cos\alpha, $$ where $R$ is the scalar curvature of $(M, \overline{g}(t))$. The equation implies that, if the initial surface is symplectic (Lagrangian), then along the flow, $\Sigma_t$ is always symplectic (Lagrangian) at each time $t$, which we call a symplectic (Lagrangian) K\"ahler-Ricci mean curvature flow. In this paper, we mainly study the symplectic K\"ahler-Ricci mean curvature flow.

Abstract:We show that the mean curvature flow of generic closed surfaces in $\mathbb{R}^{3}$ avoids asymptotically conical and non-spherical compact singularities. We also show that the mean curvature flow of generic closed low-entropy hypersurfaces in $\mathbb{R}^{4}$ is smooth until it disappears in a round point. The main technical ingredient is a long-time existence and uniqueness result for ancient mean curvature flows that lie on one side of asymptotically conical or compact shrinking solitons.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the star-shaped hypersurfaces evolved by a class of inverse mean curvature type flows in the anti-de Sitter-Schwarzschild manifold. We give C 0 , C 1 , C 2 estimates of the flow. Using these facts, we prove that the solution exists for all time and the principal curvatures converge to 1 polynomially fast.

Abstract:We continue studying a parabolic flow of almost Kähler structures introduced by Streets and Tian which naturally extends Kähler-Ricci flow onto symplectic manifolds. In the system of primarily the symplectic form, almost complex structure, Chern torsion and Chern connection, we establish new formulas for the evolutions of canonical quantities, in particular those related to the Chern connection. Using this, we give an extended characterization of fixed points of the flow originally performed by Streets and Tian.
