Abstract:Hydrosilylation employing metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) as the catalyst are promising because of their high catalytic reactivity and sustainability of heterogeneous catalyst. A highly simple and efficient method for the hydrosilylation of olefins catalyzed by an air-stable MOF-cobalt catalysts is developed. This approach is featured by 0.1% of Co-MOFs catalyst with excellent reactivity, recyclability and good functional group tolerance. The Co-MOFs can catalyze hydrosilylation of styrene or its derivatives with Ph2SiH2 in the presence of NaBHEt3. Moreover, the catalysts we developed show excellent stability and the activity is not significantly reduced after repeating the cycle for 5 times.

Abstract:A highly regio- and enantioselective cobalt-catalyzed sequential hydrosilylation/hydrogenation of alkynes was developed to afford chiral silanes. This one-pot method is operationally simple and atom economic. It makes use of relatively simple and readily available starting materials, namely alkynes, silanes, and hydrogen gas, to construct more valuable chiral silanes. Primary mechanistic studies demonstrated that highly regioselective hydrosilylation of alkynes with silanes occurred as a first step, and the subsequent cobaltcatalyzed asymmetric hydrogenation of the resulting vinylsilanes showed good enantioselectivity.

Abstract:A cobalt-catalyzed highly Markovnikov-type and enantioselective hydrosilylation of alkenes is developed for the efficient synthesis of valuable chiral dihydrosilanes. This protocol is operationally simple and atom-economy, and using relatively simple and readily available starting materials. The reaction is suitable for both aryl and aliphatic alkenes with excellent functional group tolerability. The reaction could be easily carried out in a gram-scale. The TOF and TON is up to 1800 and 860, respectively.

Abstract:Earth-abundant, noble-metal-free catalysts with outstanding electrochemical hydrogen evolution reaction catalytic activity in alkaline media play a key role in sustainable production of H2 fuel. Herein, the novel three-dimensional Ni(OH)2/MoS2 hybrid catalyst with synergistic effect has been synthesized by a facile approach for efficient alkaline hydrogen evolution reaction. Benefiting from abundant active interfaces, this hybrid catalyst shows high hydrogen evolution catalytic activity in 1M KOH aqueous solution with an onset overpotential of 20mV, an overpotential of 80mV at 10mAcm−2 and a Tafel slope of 60mV dec−1. Further theoretical calculations offers a deeper insight of the synergistic effect of Ni(OH)2/MoS2 interface: Ni(OH)2 provides the active sites for hydroxyl adsorption, and MoS2 facilitates adsorption of hydrogen intermediates and H2 generation. This interfacial cooperation leads to a favorable hydrogen and hydroxyl species energetics and reduce the energy barrier of the initial water dissociation step, which is the rate-limiting step of MoS2 catalyst in alkaline media. The combination of experimental and theoretical investigations demonstrates that the sluggish alkaline hydrogen evolution process can be circumvented by rational catalysts interface engineering.

Abstract:The iron-catalyzed highly Markovnikovtype selective and enantioselective hydrosilylation of terminal aliphatic alkenes with good functional group tolerance is developed. This operationally simple protocol uses earth-abundant transition metal catalyst, readily available aliphatic alkenes and hydrosilanes to construct valuable chiral organosilanes with better than 99% ee in most cases. The chiral aliphatic alkan-2-ol and chiral dihydroxysilane as an analogue of ketone could be efficiently synthesized via further derivatization of chiral organosilanes without any racemization.

Abstract:A highly chemo-, regio- and stereoselective cobalt-catalyzed Markovnikov hydrosilylation of alkynes was developed. Various functionalized groups, such as halides, free alcohols, free aniline, ketones, esters, amides, and nitriles are tolerated, which may lead to further applications and late-stage derivatizations. To date, this is the most efficient cobalt catalytic system (TOF=65520h(-1); TOF=turnover frequency) for hydrosilylation of alkynes. The Hiyama-Denmark cross-coupling reactions of vinylsilanes with aryl iodides underwent smoothly to afford 1,1-diarylethenes. A unique regioselectivity-controllable hydrosilylation/hydroboration reaction of alkynes was also described.

Abstract:The intrinsic heterogeneity of alumina (Al2O3) surface presents a challenge for the development of alumina-supported single-site heterogeneous catalysts and hinders the characterization of catalytic species at the molecular level as well as the elucidation of mechanistic details of the catalytic reactions. Here we report the use of aluminum hydroxide secondary building units (SBUs) in the MIL-53(Al) metal–organic framework (MOF) with the formula Al(μ2–OH)(BDC) (BDC = 1,4-benzenedicarboxylate) as a uniform and structurally defined functional mimic of Al2O3 surface for supporting Earth-abundant metal (EAM) catalysts. The μ2–OH groups in MIL-53(Al) SBUs were readily deprotonated and metalated with CoCl2 and FeCl2 to afford MIL-53(Al)-CoCl and MIL-53(Al)-FeCl precatalysts which were characterized by powder X-ray diffraction, nitrogen sorption, elemental analysis, density functional theory, and extended X-ray fine structure spectroscopy. Abstract:The reported metal-organic framework (MOF) catalyst realizes CO2 to methanol transformation under ambient conditions. The MOF is one rare example containing metal-free N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) moieties, which are installed using an in situ generation strategy involving the incorporation of an imidazolium bromide based linker into the MOF by postsynthetic ligand exchange. Importantly, the resultant NHC-functionalized MOF is the first catalyst capable of performing quantitative hydrogen transfer from silanes to CO2, thus achieving quantitative (>99%) methanol yield. Density-functional theory calculations indicate the high catalytic activity of the NHC sites in MOFs are attributed to the decreased reaction barrier of a reaction route involving the formation of an NHC-silane adduct. In addition, the MOF-immobilized NHC catalyst shows enhanced stability for up to eight cycles without base activation, as well as high selectivity towards the desired silyl methoxide product.

Abstract:We report a simple and effective nickel-based catalytic system, NiCl2·6H2O/tBuOK, for the electrophilically activated hydrosilylation of terminal alkenes with primary silanes. This protocol provides excellent performance under mild reaction conditions: exclusive anti-Markovnikov selectivity, broad functional group tolerance (36 examples), and good scalability (TON = 5500). However, the secondary and tertiary silanes are not suitable. Mechanistic studies revealed that this homogeneous catalytic hydrosilylation includes an electrophilically activated Si–H bond process without the generation of nickel hydrides.

Abstract:Electron-donating groups in the robust MOF motif are able to provide an excellent catalytic platform, therefore obtaining site-isolated metal sites. In this study, the terminal alkyne is firstly introduced into UiO-66-type metalorganic frameworks (UiO-66-alkyne). Herein, to further study the application potential of this material, a covalently bonded nickel catalyst based on the alkynyl-tagged UiO-66-alkyne has been prepared and afforded us unprecedented highly dispersed and highly efficient catalytic active species. Meanwhile, this nickel-contained catalyst method for joining metals provided an alternative pathway regarding catalyst designing. With UiO66-alkyne-Ni, the heterogeneous transformation of homogeneous catalysts is realized. Using benzaldehyde and malononitrile as starting materials, we were able to catalyze the Knoevenagel condensation within 45 min under room temperature with yield (> 99 %). Moreover, the recovery rate of the UiO-66-alkyne-Ni also outperformed previous MOFs in both small-scale and gram-level reactions, which shows UiO-66-alkyne-Ni is a potential contributor to the subsequent industrialization.

Abstract:Here we present a systematic investigation of the cyanosilylation of aldehydes with trimethylsilyl cyanide (TMSCN) by using metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) as catalysts. Four types of thermally stable MOFs (MIL-47 (V), MIL-53 (Al), MIL-101 (Cr), and UiO-66 (Zr)) constructed with the same organic linker, terephthalic acid, were studied, among which MIL-101 (Cr) exhibits the highest catalytic activity. Experimental results revealed that the catalytic activities are in close relation with the types of coordinatively unsaturated metal ions, pore sizes as well as solvents. Using MIL-101 (Cr) as the catalyst, both aliphatic and aromatic aldehydes were efficiently transformed to cyanohydrin trimethylsilyl ether, meanwhile significant size selectivities and electronic effects have also been observed. The solvent-free reaction conditions not only provide a high TON for MOF catalyzed cyanosilylation, but also render the current protocol more attractive to industrial applications.

Abstract:An example of homogeneous Mo-catalyzed direct N-alkylation of anilines or nitroarenes with alcohols is presented. The DFT aimed design suggested the easily accessible bis-NHC-Mo(0) complex features a strong hydride-donating ability, achieving effective N-alkylation of anilines or challenging nitroarenes with alcohols. Abstract:Direct and selective installation of two different functional groups into the unsaturated bonds of alkenes constitutes a long-standing goal in organic synthesis. Herein, we first report a photoelectrochemical approach to the carboacylation/ silanoylation of alkenes with unactivated alkanes/hydrosilanes via the LMCT process. A number of ketones with high complexity and diversity were rapidly obtained from commercially available materials in an economical and sustainable manner. Furthermore, this protocol can be scaled up to gram-level. This paired electrocatalysis strategy featured excellent regioselectivity, ample substrate scope, external-oxidant-free, and a high resource economy. A series of mechanistic experiments were performed to determine the preferred pathway for the photoelectrochemical Ni(I)/Ni(II)/Ni(III) cycles in these transformations.

Abstract:A series of nitrogen phosphine ligands were synthesized, and the hydrosilylation reaction of alkenes catalyzed using MCl2 in the presence of these ligands was investigated. FeCl2/1(N1, N1, N2, N2-Tetrakis[(diphenylphosphino)methyl]ethane-1,2-diamine) showed low catalytic activity. MnCl2/1, CrCl3/1 and NiCl2/1 showed some catalytic activity. The CoCl2/N,P-ligand catalyst system showed high activity as well as excellent selectivity (The selectivity of the β-adduct was ~100%.) in the hydrosilylation reaction. CoCl2/1 showed the highest catalytic activity (~ >99.9% conversion of 1-octene). Additionally, no α-adduct, dehydrogenative silylation product and octane were detected.

Abstract:Designing and developing efficient synergistic catalytic systems has always been an exciting topic. In this work, a sandwich-type nanocomposite, UiO-66-NH2@Pt@PCN-222, was utilized as a synergistic catalytic system for the selective reduction of nitrobenzaldehydes to nitrobenzyl alcohols. Benefiting from the synergy of PCN-222 and Pt NPs, the catalyst can efficiently promote the formation of 10 nitrobenzyl alcohols under mild conditions within as short as 30 min. Moreover, the PCN-222 provides not only active sites but also protection for metal nanoparticles, so the catalyst remained intact activity in cycles. This work has reference significance for the construction of synergistic catalytic systems.
