Abstract:An Ag@AgBr nanoparticle-decorated K4Nb6O17 (Ag@AgBr/K4Nb6O17) photocatalyst was prepared via the oil-in-water self-assembly method. The Ag@AgBr nanoparticles, with average diameters of 20 nm, were uniformly deposited on the K4Nb6O17 surface. The as-prepared Ag@AgBr/K4Nb6O17 composites exhibited high visible light absorption, high photocurrent intensity, and high charge transfer efficiency, thus enhancing the photocatalytic performance for methyl-blue (MB) dye degradation. The Ag@AgBr (20 wt%)/K4Nb6O17 composite displayed the highest photocatalytic activity, degrading 96% of the MB solution under visible light irradiation for 60 min, which was 2.3-times and 8.5-times that of the bulk Ag@AgBr and K4Nb6O17, respectively. The excellent photocatalytic activity of the Ag@AgBr/K4Nb6O17 composites is due to the synergistic effect between Ag@AgBr and K4Nb6O17, where the Ag@AgBr nanoparticles not only enhanced visible light absorption efficiency due to the Ag nanoparticles' SPR, but also greatly accelerated the separation of the photogenerated electron–hole pairs. From the UV-vis spectra, the Ag@AgBr nanoparticles greatly extend the composites' visible light absorption. The data collected from photoluminescence (PL), photocurrent and electrochemical impedance spectra (EIS) were consistent and confirmed the rapid separation of charge carriers. Moreover, the composite exhibited a larger specific surface area, which was also beneficial for the photocatalytic activity. In addition, the roles of the radical species were investigated, and the holes and $O2 radicals were hypothesized to dominate the photocatalytic process. Based on the characterization analysis and experimental results, a possible photocatalytic mechanism for the enhancement of photocatalytic activity is proposed.

Abstract:Nano-sized Ag@AgBr surface-sensitized K2Ti4O9 composite photocatalysts (Ag@AgBr/K2Ti4O9) was synthesized via a microwave method and characterized by SEM, Energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), TEM, selected area electron diffraction (SAED), XRD, UV-Vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy and XPS. The photocatalytic property for the degradation of Rhodamine B (RhB) dye pollutants was evaluated under visible light irradiation. The results indicate that the particles of Ag@AgBr/K2Ti4O9 distribute in the range of 200 similar to 500 nm. Ag@AgBr/K2Ti4O9 samples exhibit superior absorption for visible light and the loading amount of Ag@AgBr affects the absorption spectra. The composite photocatalyst loaded with 25wt% Ag@AgBr shows the highest photocatalytic activity. 97% RhB is degraded after irradiation for 1 h. The loading amount and stability were also investigated. The high photocatalytic activity can be attributed to the surface plasmon resonance effect of Ag Nanopaiticles (NPs) and efficient photo-induced charge separation.

Abstract:In this paper, a novel plasmonic photocatalyst, Ag@AgBr-intercalated layered niobate (denoted as K4Nb6O17/Ag@AgBr), was synthesized via a microwave-assisted ion-exchange method. The composite materials prepared were characterized using X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), ultraviolet-visible diffuse reflection spectra (UV-vis), photoluminescence (PL), X-ray fluorescence spectrometry (XRF) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The as-prepared plasmonic photocatalyst exhibited an enhanced and stable photoactivity for the degradation of Rhodamine B (RhB) under visible light irradiation. The high activity observed was attributed to the synergistic effect of surface plasmon resonance (SPR) exhibited by Ag nanoparticles on the surface of AgBr, absorption by AgBr itself, as well as the electron-hole pair separation derived from the matching band potentials between Ag@AgBr and K4Nb6O17. Photocatalytic reaction parameters, such as catalyst dosage, initial concentration of RhB, and solution pH were investigated. Abstract:Plasmonic Ag@AgCl-sensitized K2Ti4O9 composite photocatalysts (hereafter designated as Ag@AgCl/K2Ti4O9) were synthesized via a facile hydrothermal deposition–photoreduction method. The samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), ultraviolet–visible diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (UV–vis), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), X-ray fluorescence spectrometry (XRF), nitrogen adsorption (BET) and photoluminescence measurements (PL). The synthesized Ag@AgCl in the composite photocatalyst possessed cubic structure, while the K2Ti4O9 crystal was monoclinic. The size of Ag@AgCl nanoparticles, which were uniformly scattered on the surface of K2Ti4O9, was distributed in the range of 100–200nm. The prepared Ag@AgCl/K2Ti4O9 samples also exhibited superior visible light absorption compared to the pure K2Ti4O9. The photocatalytic activity of the prepared materials for organics degradation was examined under visible light irradiation, and the effect of Ag@AgCl loading amount was studied and was found to influence the absorption spectra observed. The Ag@AgCl(30wt.%)/K2Ti4O9 composite photocatalyst synthesized by hydrothermal deposition–photoreduction method exhibited the highest photocatalytic activity, degrading 82.7% of Rhodamine B dye after 2h of irradiation. The catalyst stability was also investigated. The high photocatalytic activity of the prepared composite can be attributed to the surface plasmon resonance effect of Ag nanoparticles and synergy with the layered host material, and a mechanism of photocatalysis was discussed.

Abstract:A novel photocatalyst Ag-AgBr/TiO2 heterostructured nanofibers was fabricated by means of combining solvothermal technique with photoreduction method based on the electrospun TO2 nanofibers support. And, X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), UV-vis spectrophotometer (UV-vis), and photoluminescence (PL) measurements were used to characterize the structure, morphology, and properties of the as-prepared photocatalysts. Further, the photocatalytic activity of photocatalysts was tested by degrading methylene blue dye under visible light. As a result, the photocatalytic activity of the Ag-AgBr/TiO2 heterostructured nanofibers is far superior to that of TiO2 nanofibers and Ag-AgBr power, which could be attributed to the surface plasmon resonance effect of Ag nanoparticles and the synergetic effect between the three components of Ag, AgBr and TiO2. Significantly, the stability and recycling of the photocatalyst was also investigated. Synthesis of AgBr/Ag4P2O7 Composite Photocatalyst and Enhanced Photocatalytic Performance

Abstract:Ag4P2O7 and AgBr/Ag4P2O7 photocatalysts were synthesized by a simple precipitation reaction, and their structures were characterized by X-ray powder diffraction, scanning electronic microscopy, Brunauer-Emmett-Teller surface area analysis, X-ray photoemission spectroscopy, UV-vis absorption spectroscopy, photoluminescence, and surface photovoltage techniques. Photocatalytic degradations of methylene blue over Ag4P2O7 and AgBr/Ag4P2O7 were also studied under visible light irradiation. AgBr/Ag4P2O7 exhibited excellent photocatalytic efficiency, with the activity higher than that of Ag4P2O7. The band gap and valence band of Ag4P2O7 were 2.67 eV and 1.93 eV, respectively. Ag4P2O7 failed to produce (OH)-O-center dot radicals by directly oxidizing OH- because the oxidation potential of OH- was 2.7 eV. Therefore, electrons excited by light reacted with O-2 to produce O-center dot(2)- radicals that then formed (OH)-O-center dot radicals. Finally, (OH)-O-center dot radicals oxidized MB molecules. The matching energy bands of Ag4P2O7 and AgBr in the AgBr/Ag4P2O7 heterocatalysts effectively separated the photo-induced charges, which may enhance the photocatalytic activity of Ag4P2O7. Abstract:Nano-sized plasmonic Ag@AgBr sensitized K2Ti4O9 composite photocatalysts (hereafter designated as Ag@AgBr/K2Ti4O9) was synthesized via a facile oil-in-water self-assembly method. The photocatalytic activity of the prepared materials for methylene blue (MB) degradation was examined under visible light irradiation. The results reveal that the size of Ag@AgBr, which evenly dispersed on the surface of K2Ti4O9, distributes about 20 nm. The UV-vis diffuse reflectance spectra indicate that Ag@AgBr/K2Ti4O9 samples have a significantly enhanced optical absorption in 420-800 nm. The photocatalytic activities of the Ag@AgBr/K2Ti4O9 samples increase first and then decrease with increasing amount of loading Ag@AgBr and the Ag@AgBr(10 wt%)/K2Ti4O9 sample exhibits the best photocatalytic activity and 95.75% MB was degraded after irradiation for 90 min. Additionally, studies performed using radical scavengers indicated that h(+), center dot OH and Br-0 acted as the main reactive species. (C) 2015 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Abstract:In this work, a novel nanoscale leaf-like ternary Bi2SiO5/Ag/AgBr photocatalyst was synthesized by means of the hydrothermal reaction together with an in situ photoreduction procedure. The ternary Bi2SiO5/Ag/AgBr composites possessed a neoteric heterostructure, in which the surface of AgBr was wrapped with nano-sheet Bi2SiO5. Through the coating of Bi2SiO5, the growth of AgBr nanoparticles was hindered, thereby inhibiting the agglomeration. In ternary composites, the particle size of Ag/AgBr obviously decreased, which reduced from 5 um to 0.6 um, approximately. The above effects of Bi2SiO5 on the morphology of Ag/AgBr were conducive to increasing the chance of contact between the active center and the reactant, thus promoting photocatalytic activity. Systematic researches showed that the BA 1-5 (the composite with a Bi2SiO5/Ag/AgBr molar ratio of 1:5) exhibited the optimal removal efficiency for RhB degradation, which was 5.97 times and 3.28 times that of Ag/AgBr and Bi2SiO5, respectively. Co-effect of the surface plasmon resonance (SPR) induced by Ag-0 as well as formed heterojunction composed of Bi2SiO5, AgBr and Ag also contributed a lot in the splendid light absorption of ternary composites. H-2-TPR analysis indicated that the reduction ability of Ag/AgBr was further enhanced, comparing with that of bare Ag/AgBr. This present work can provide an original approach to devise and manufacture the Ag/AgBr-based photocatalysts.

Abstract:A novel ternary plasmonic Ag3VO4/AgBr/Ag hybrid photocatalyst was successfully fabricated via an in situ anion-exchange reaction between Ag3VO4 and KBr, followed by light reduction. The obtained samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, UV-visible diffuse-reflectance spectroscopy (UV-vis DRS), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The photocatalytic activities of obtained photo catalysts were measured by the degradation of Rhodamine B and methylene blue under visible-light irradiation (lambda >= 400 nm). As-prepared Ag3VO4/AgBr/Ag plasmonic photocatalysts exhibit wide absorption in the visible-light region and display superior visible-light-driven photocatalytic activities in degradation of organic contamination compared with pristine Ag3VO4, Ag3VO4/AgBr, and AgBr/Ag. This enhanced photocatalytic activity is attributed to the synergistic effects between Ag3VO4/AgBr-based heterostructured semiconductor photocatalysis and the surface plasmon resonance (SPR) of Ag nanoparticles (NPs). On the basis of UV-vis DRS and valence band X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, a possible mechanism of enhanced photocatalytic activity of Ag3VO4/AgBr/Ag is proposed; the vectorial electron transfer driven by the matching band potentials of AgBr and Ag3VO4 and the SPR of Ag NPs contribute to its high photocatalytic activity and the improved stability. Therefore, the present study provides helpful insight into the design of novel and highly efficient visible-light photocatalysts in the future.
Shape-controllable Synthesis and Morphology-Dependent Photocatalytic Properties of AgBr Photocatalysts

Abstract:AgBr photocatalysts with ellipsoid, polyhedral and ball-like morphologies were successfully synthesized by simply adjusting external experimental conditions such as the content of surfactant and the Br source. The samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, X-ray photoemission spectroscopy, Brunauer–Emmett–Teller and UV–Vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy to determine the structure, morphology and optical property. To clarify the relationship between morphology and photocatalytic activity, the photocatalytic performances of AgBr photocatalysts were systematically evaluated by photodegradation of three organic contaminants including rhodamine B, methylene blue and methyl orange in aqueous solutions under visible-light irradiation. Compared with ellipsoid AgBr samples, polyhedral AgBr and ball-like AgBr samples exhibited higher photocatalytic activities. The enhancement visible-light photocatalytic activity could be attributed to higher surface area, strong visible light absorption, the surface plasmon resonance and its synergistic effect on the photosensitive AgBr. Furthermore, a possible photocatalytic mechanism of AgBr photocatalysts was also discussed, revealing ·O2 − and h+ are main reactive species and free ·OH radicals in solution also contribute to the degradation reaction.
AgBr@Ag/TiO2 core-shell composite with excellent visible light photocatalytic activity and hydrothermal stability

Abstract:AgBr@Ag/TiO2 core–shell photocatalysts were fabricated by a facile green route. TiO2 was uniformly coated on the surface of cubic AgBr, making AgBr@Ag/TiO2 core–shell photocatalyst show excellent hydrothermal stability. Beneficial from that Ag nanoparticles and AgBr can respond to visible light and core–shell structure can effectively separate the photogenerated electrons and holes, AgBr@Ag/TiO2 core–shell composites exhibited outstanding visible light photocatalytic activity for the degradation of acid orange 7. The activity of AgBr@Ag/TiO2 is related to the thickness of TiO2 shell, and the optimal shell thickness for obtaining the highest activity is 10nm.

Abstract:A new Ag/AgBrO3 photocatalyst was prepared by mixing aqueous solutions of AgNO3 and NaBrO3. The catalyst's structure and performance were investigated with X-ray powder diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The UV-vis absorption spectrum of Ag/AgBrO3 exhibits a band gap of 3.97 eV. The results show that the Ag/AgBrO3 semiconductor can be excited by ultraviolet-visible light. The photodegradation of Rhodamine B displayed much higher photocatalytic activity than that of N-doped TiO2 under the same experimental conditions. Moreover, (OH)-O-center dot and center dot O-2(-) generated in the photocatalysis played a key role of the photodegradation of Rhodamine B. (C) 2016 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Abstract:BiOBr-sensitized–K2La2Ti3O10 composite photocatalysts (BiOBr/K2La2Ti3O10) were fabricated by depositing BiOBr particles on the surface of K2La2Ti3O10 through a solvothermal method. The deposited BiOBr particles, with a uniform size of approximately 50nm, were well dispersed on the surface of K2La2Ti3O10, and improved the visible light absorption of the composite material. The photocatalytic activities were evaluated by degrading Rhodamine B (RhB) under visible light irradiation. The BiOBr/K2La2Ti3O10 composites exhibited superior performance over pure BiOBr, and the deposition of BiOBr particles onto the host K2La2Ti3O10 significantly increased the photocatalytic decolorization ability of K2La2Ti3O10. An optimum loading of 45wt% was found, and almost 95% of RhB could be degraded in 60min under visible light irradiation using this preparation. Furthermore, the photocatalytic activity was stable in up to five consecutive runs. The enhancement in both photocatalytic activity and stability in the composites resulted from the closely contacted interfaces, which were beneficial for charge separation. The roles of the radical species were investigated, and the O2− and h+ were thought to dominate the photocatalytic process, while the OH was found to be relatively negligible. Based on the experimental results, a photocatalytic mechanism for organics degradation over BiOBr/K2La2Ti3O10 photocatalysts was proposed.

Abstract:The composite photocatalyst of Ag@AgCl/K4 Nb6 O17 was composed of by the oil-water self-assembly method,on the basis that K4 Nb6 O17 was prepared in the high-temperature solid-state method.The microstruc-ture,morphology and properties of Ag@AgCl/K4 Nb6 O17 composite photocatalyst were characterized by means of XRD,SEM,TEM,EDX,UV-vis,PL,BET;and the photocatalytic performance was valued by the degra-dation of methylene blue (MB),phenol,and Rhodamine B (RhB)under visible light irradiation.The results shows that Ag@AgCl particles with the size of about 20 nm were dispersed in two-dimensional layer structure on the surface of K4 Nb6 O17 and the absorption of visible light of the composite photocatalyst ranged from 400 to 800 nm due to the surface plasmon resonance of Ag.The degradation rate of MB solution over Ag@AgCl (25wt%)/K4 Nb6 O17 under the visible light irradiation reaches 88.2% in an hour,which is more than two times compared with the sum of the Ag@AgCl and K4 Nb6 O17 degradation rate.The composite photocatalyst still ex-hibited high catalytic activity after recycled five times,and photocatalytic activities for the degradation of phenol and RhB were also observed.The degradation mechanism of Ag@AgCl/K4 Nb6 O17 composite photocatalyst was proposed.
Improved Photocatalytic Performance over AgBr/ZnO under Visible Light

Abstract:AgBr nanoparticles modified ZnO have been successfully synthesized by using cetyltrimethylammonium bromide as the bromide source and stabilizer. X-ray diffraction and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy confirmed the loading of AgBr nanoparticles on ZnO support. The transmission electron microscopy showed that AgBr nanoparticles with small size were well dispersed on the surface of ZnO support. UV-visible diffuse reflectance spectra displayed the absorbance of AgBr/ZnO composite was much higher than that of pure ZnO in the visible light range. The photocatalytic activities of degradation Rhodamine B dye under visible light over AgBr/ZnO catalyst were markedly enhanced compared with pure ZnO. The improved photocatalytic activities may be attributed to the synergetic effects including enhanced visible light absorption, narrowed band gap and effective separation of photogenerated e(-)-h(+) resulted from the highly dispersed small nanosized AgBr. Moreover, the possible mechanism was tentatively proposed based on the photoluminescence spectra and surface photovoltage spectroscopy. (C) 2013 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
