Abstract:Four new secoiridoids, syrretoside A (1), syrretoside B (2), 5β, 8β-syrretaglucone C(3), 5β, 8α-syrretaglucone C (4), together with eight known secoiridoids (5-12), were isolated from the stem barks of Syringa reticulata (Bl.) Hara. The structures of isolated compounds were established based on the physical and chemical means, NMR spectroscopy, high-resolution mass spectrometry (HR-ESI-MS), and circular dichroism spectrum (CD), as well as in comparison with the literature. The cytotoxicity of isolated compounds was investigated using CCK8 assay, which showed that these compounds had different degrees of inhibitory effect on two human tumor (MGC803, LN229) cell lines.

Abstract:AIM: To investigate the chemical constituents of the roots of Polygala sibirica L. (Polygalaceae)METHOD: The isolation was performed by solvent extraction and various chromatographic techniques, including silica gel, Sephadex LH-20, ODS, semi-preparative 1-1PLC, and preparative TLC. The chemical structures were elucidated based on extensive spectroscopic analysis, including HR-ESI-MS and 1D- and 2D-NMR spectroscopic data.RESULTS: A total of sixteen compounds, including five xanthones (5, 7-10), five saccharide esters (1, 3, 4, 12, 13), two Rayonoids (14, 16), two triterpenoids (11, 15), one phenylpropanoid (6), and one benzophenone glycoside (2) were isolated. Their structures were determined as sibiricose A7 (1), sibiriphenone A (2), polygalatenoside A (3), polygalatenoside C (4), lancerin (5), 3, 4, 5-trimethoxycinnamic acid (6), 6-hydroxy-1, 2, 3, 7-tetramethoxyxanthone (7), 1, 3, 7-trihydroxy-2-methoxyxanthone (8), onjixanthone 11 (9), 1, 2, 3, 6, 7-pentamethoxyxanthone (10), presenegenin (11), 3-0-3, 4, 5-trimethoxycinnamoy1-6-0-4-methoxy benzoyl sucrose (12), tenuifoliside C (13), 5, 3'-dihydroxy-7, 4'-dimethoxyfiavono1-3-0-,3-D-glucopyranoside (14), tenuifolin (15), and rhamnetin 3-0-,8-D-glucopyranoside (16).CONCLUSION: Compounds 1 and 2 are two new compounds from P. sibirica.

Abstract:Three pairs of enantiomeric sesquiterpenoids, (-/+)-syringanoid A (1a and 1b) and (+/-)-pinnatanoids A (2a and 2b) and B (3a and 3b), that represent an unprecedented 5/4/6 tricyclic backbone and a rare 6/7 bicyclic backbone, respectively, were isolated from the peeled stems of Syringa pinnatifolia. The structures were elucidated by extensive spectroscopic analysis, single-crystal X-ray diffraction, a modified Mosher's method, and quantum chemical calculations. A plausible biotransformation pathway for 1-3 was proposed, and their cardiomyocyte-protective and anti-inflammatory activities were evaluated.

Abstract:Objective: To study the chemical constituents from the roots of Stephania tetrandra.Methods: The 70% ethanol extract from the roots of Stephania tetrandra was isolated and purified by column chromatography over macroporous resin, silica gel, Sephadex LH-20,ODS.The structures of the compounds were identified by physicochemical properties and spectral data.Results: Eleven compounds were isolated from the roots of Stephania tetrandra and identified as（-）-oblongine（1）,fordianoside（2）,coclaurine（3）,dicentrine（4）,magnoflorine（5）,N,N-dimethyllindcarpine（6）,stephenanthrine（7）,N-trans-feruloyl tyramine（8）,4-hydroxyphenethylol-4-O-β-D-glucopyranoside（9）,tetrandrine（10）,fangchinoline（11）,respectively.Conclusion: Among them, compounds 2,3,6,8,9 are isolated from Stephania tetrandra for the first time.

Abstract:Much attention has been paid to cholestane-type steroidal glycosides because of their importance from the perspectives of both chemical diversity and significant biological activities. A phytochemical investigation of the rhizomes of Polygonatum odoratum (Liliaceae) resulted in the isolation of three novel cholestane-type steroidal glycosides (1-3) with unique Δ(14,16)-unsaturated D-ring structures as well as two novel spirostane-type steroidal saponins (4 and 5) and three known steroidal glycosides (6-8). Their structures were determined by various spectroscopic methods and chemical reactions. Steroidal saponin 7 showed significant antifungal activity against Candida albicans JCM1542 (MIC 3.1 μg/mL) and Aspergillus fumigatus JCM1738 (MIC 6.3 μg/mL).

Abstract:Three new natural sesquiterpene coumarins, isofeterin (1), lehmannolol (3), sinkianone (4), and one known compound, lehmannolone (2), were isolated from the roots of Ferula teterrima and Ferula sinkiangensis. Their chemical structures were established on the basis of spectroscopic analysis, including X-ray crystallography and CD spectrum measurements for determining the absolute configuration of compound 2.

Methods: The structures of the compounds were elucidated based on extensive spectral analysis, including 1D and 2D NMR, MS, UV, and CD analysis. Results: Two new sesquiterpene compounds (1S,2R,5R,7S,8R)-2,8-epoxy-5-hydroxybisabola-3,10-dioen-9-one (1), (1R,2R,5R,7S,8R)-2,8-epoxy-5-hydroxybisabola-3,10-dioen-9-one (2), and a new natural product 6-(4-Hydroxymethylphenyl)-2-methyl-hept-2-ene-4-one (3) together with three known compounds ar-turmerone (4), 2-methyl-6-(4-hydroxyphenyl-3-methyl)-2-hepten-4-one (5) and 2-methyl-6-(4-hydroxyphenyl)-2-hepten-4-one (6) were isolated from C. longa root extract with 95% ethanol. Conclusion: In the study, three new compounds were isolated from C. longa, and their absolute configurations were determined.

Abstract:Fourteen new sesquiterpenoids, alashanoids A-H (1, 2, and 4-9), (+)-2,9-humuladien-6-ol-8-one (3b), and five pairs of enantiomers (1 and 4-7), along with eight known analogues (3a and 10-16) were isolated from the stems of Syringa pinnatifolia. The structures were established using IR, UV, MS, and NMR data. The absolute configurations of the new compounds were resolved by X-ray diffraction, a modification of Mosher's method, and experimental and calculated ECD data analysis. The new sesquiterpenoids represent three skeletons: a rare 2,2,5,9-tetramethylbicyclo[6.3.0]-undecane (1), a humulane-type (2-8), and a caryophyllene-type (9) skeleton. Compounds 6a, 7, and 11 showed protective effects against hypoxia-induced injury to H9c2 cells at a concentration of 40 mu M, and 5-7, 11, and 13 inhibited NO production in LPS-induced RAW264.7 macrophage cells with IC50 values ranging from 13.6 to 70.6 mu M. These compounds decreased the TNF-alpha and IL-6 levels in RAW264.7 cells in a concentration-dependent manner at 20-80 mu M.
A new epicatechin glucopyranoside derivative from Styrax suberifolius

Abstract:A new derivative of epicatechin glucopyranoside, (2R,3R)-3,7,4'-trihydroxy-5,3'-dimethoxyflavan 7-O-β-d-glucopyranoside (1), together with three mononuclear phenolic acid esters, methyl orsellinate (2), ethyl orsellinate (3) and methyl β-orcinolcarboxylate (4) were isolated from the bark of Styrax suberifolius. The structures of 1-4 were determined on the basis of extensive analysis of NMR and MS spectra combined with chemical hydrolysis. The antifungal activities of the isolated compounds against three plant pathogenic fungi, Alternaria solani, Fusarium oxysporum and Phomopsis cytospore were evaluated using radial growth inhibition assay. Compounds 2, 3 and 4 exerted selective inhibitory activities against the tested fungi. Among of them, methyl β-orcinolcarboxylate (4) exhibited obvious inhibitory effect against P. cytospore, with an inhibition rate of 86.72% at 100 μg/ml.

Abstract:Three new terpenoids, pubinernoids A-C (1-3), together with six known sesquiterpenoids, were isolated from the leaves and stems of Schisandra pubescens var. pubinervis. The structures of the new compounds were established on the basis of extensive spectroscopic analyses, including application of 2D-NMR spectroscopic techniques. A plausible formation of the sesquiterpenoid 2 is proposed (Scheme 2), starting from guaianediol (4) as the biogenetic precursor, which was also present in the extract.

Abstract:Two new phenolic glycosides (1-2), along with six existing compounds (3-8), were isolated from the ethanolic extract of Ilex pubescens roots, a traditional folk medicine. These structures were determined using HR-ESI-MS, IR, UV, and NMR (including 1 D, 2 D-NMR). The anti-inflammatory activities of three phenolic glycosides (1-3) were evaluated in the human HepG2 cell lines. The results showed that compound 3 could induce P-gp and BCRP expression through the Nrf2-mediated pathway.

Abstract:Three new phenylpropanoids, namely (7′ R ,8′ R ) guaiacylglycerol 4′- O - β -D-[6′′- O -(4- O - β -D-glucopyranosyl)- p -hydroxylbenzoyl]-glucopyranoside (1) , (7 R ,8 R ) guaiacylglycerol 8- O -1′-(2′,6′-dimethoxy-4′- O - β -D-glucopyranosyl)-benzene (2) , (7′ R ,8′ R ) guaiacylglycerol 4′- O - β -D-[6′′- O -3,5-dimethoxy-4-hydroxylbenzoyl]-glucopyranoside (3) , along with one known phenylpropanoid (4) were isolated from the ethanol extract of Phyllostachys nigra var . henonis fresh culm. The structures of all compounds were determined by analysis of UV, 1D NMR, 2D NMR, HR-ESI-MS and CD data. All compounds were evaluated for their DPPH radical scavenging activity. Compound 2 (IC 50 54.9 μM) and 3 (IC 50 77.2 μM) exhibited moderate antioxidant activity compared with two positive control compounds L-ascorbic acid (IC 50 15.5 μM) and 2,6-ditertbutyl-4-methyl phenol (IC 50 19.1 μM).

Abstract:A phytochemical investigation on the peeled stem of Syringa pinnatifolia Hemsl. led to the isolation and structural identification of one new sesquiterpenoid, alashanoid J (1), five triterpenoids (2–6), two lignans (7 and 8), and two other phenolic constituents (9 and 10). The structure of alashanoid J was elucidated by MS, 1D and 2D NMR spectroscopic data analysis, and the known compounds were determined on the basis of NMR and MS analysis and literature comparison with those in literature. The discovery of these constituents confirmed the current taxonomic division of this species under the level of genus Syringa.
