Abstract:We study the quasisymmetric geometry of the Julia sets of McMullen maps fλ(z) = zm + λ/zℓ, where λ ∈ ℂ {0} and ℓ and m are positive integers satisfying 1/ℓ+1/m < 1. If the free critical points of fλ are escaped to the infinity, we prove that the Julia set Jλ of fλ is quasisymmetrically equivalent to either a standard Cantor set, a standard Cantor set of circles or a round Sierpiński carpet (which is also standard in some sense). If the free critical points are not escaped, we give a suffcient condition on λ such that Jλ is a Sierpiński carpet and prove that most of them are quasisymmetrically equivalent to some round carpets. In particular, there exist infinitely renormalizable rational maps whose Julia sets are quasisymmetrically equivalent to the round carpets.

Abstract:In this paper, we discuss the rational maps F_λ (z) = z^n + λ /z^n ,n ⩾ 2 with the positive real parameter λ . It is shown that the immediately attracting basin B λ of ∞ for F λ is always a Jordan domain if the Julia set of F λ is not a Cantor set. Furthermore, B λ is a quasidisk if there is no parabolic fixed point on the boundary of B λ . It is also shown that if the Julia set of F λ is connected, then it is locally connected and all Fatou components are Jordan domains. Finally, a complete description to the problem when the Julia set is a Sierpiński curve is given.

Abstract:In this paper, we give a family of rational maps whose Julia sets are Cantor circles and show that every rational map whose Julia set is a Cantor set of circles must be topologically conjugate to one map in this family on their corresponding Julia sets. In particular, we give the specific expressions of some rational maps whose Julia sets are Cantor circles, but they are not topologically conjugate to any McMullen maps on their Julia sets. Moreover, some non-hyperbolic rational maps whose Julia sets are Cantor circles are also constructed.

Abstract:By means of a nested sequence of some critical pieces constructed by Kozlovski, Shen, and van Strien, and by using a covering lemma recently proved by Kahn and Lyubich, we prove that a component of the filled-in Julia set of any polynomial is a point if and only if its forward orbit contains no periodic critical components. It follows immediately that the Julia set of a polynomial is a Cantor set if and only if each critical component of the filled-in Julia set is aperiodic. This result was a conjecture raised by Branner and Hubbard in 1992.

Abstract:Inspired by the study of 3D fractals based on quadratic polynomial maps,1 this paper presents a novel approach for generating 3D Julia sets by utilizing a family of switching polynomial maps in order to further enrich the form of 3D fractals. Rotational symmetries in the structures of resulting Julia sets with different switching parameters are theoretically analyzed and proved. Experimental results obtained from various parameters and coefficients in the switching maps are provided and discussed in detail. It is hoped that the investigations conducted in this paper can bring on new perspectives for the generalization of 3D fractals.

Abstract:We prove that the Julia sets of a number of rational maps and transcendental entire functions with bounded type Siegel disks are locally connected. This is based on establishing an expanding property of a long iteration of a class of quasi-Blaschke models near the unit circle.

Abstract:This paper studies quasiconformal non-equivalence of Julia sets and limit sets. We proved that any Julia set is quasiconformally different from the Apollonian gasket. We also proved that any Julia set of a quadratic rational map is quasiconformally different from the gasket limit set of a geometrically finite Kleinian group.

Abstract:Let f be a rational map whose Julia set J ( f ) is disconnected. It is proved that there exists a rational map g such that g has a family of buried Julia components on which g is quasiconformally conjugate to f on J ( f ) if and only if f has no parabolic basins and rotation domains. This extends the previous result about burying connected Julia sets to the disconnected case. Moreover, the limit behaviors of the conformal dimensions of successively burying Julia sets are also studied.

Abstract:For Cantor circle Julia sets of hyperbolic rational maps, we prove that they are quasisymmetrically equivalent to standard Cantor circles (i.e., connected components are round circles). This gives a quasisymmetric uniformization of all Cantor circle Julia sets of hyperbolic rational maps. By analyzing the combinatorial information of the rational maps whose Julia sets are Cantor circles, we give a computational formula of the number of the Cantor circle hyperbolic components in the moduli space of rational maps for any fixed degree. We calculate the Hausdorff dimensions of the Julia sets which are Cantor circles, and prove that for any Cantor circle hyperbolic component H in the space of rational maps, the infimum of the Hausdorff dimensions of the Julia sets of the maps in H is equal to the conformal dimension of the Julia set of any representative f(0) is an element of H, and that the supremum of the Hausdorff dimensions is equal to 2.

Abstract:The object of the paper is to characterize gasket Julia sets of rational maps that can be uniformized by round gaskets. We restrict to rational maps without critical points on the Julia set. Under these conditions, we prove that a Julia set can be quasiconformally uniformized by a round gasket if and only if it is a fat gasket, i.e., boundaries of Fatou components intersect tangentially. We also prove that a Julia set can be uniformized by a round gasket with a David homeomorphism if and only if every Fatou component is a quasidisk; equivalently, there are no parabolic cycles of multiplicity 2. Our theorem applies to show that gasket Julia sets and limit sets of Kleinian groups can be locally quasiconformally homeomorphic, although globally this is conjectured to be false.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the residual Julia sets of meromorphic functions. In fact, we prove that if a meromorphic function f belongs to the class S and its Julia set is locally connected, then the residual Julia set of f is empty if and only if its Fatou set F(f) has a completely invariant component or consists of only two components. We also show that if f is a meromorphic function which is not of the form alpha + (z-alpha)(-k)e(g(z)), where k is a natural number, a is a complex number and g is an entire function. then f has buried components provided that f has no completely invariant components and its Julia set J(f) is disconnected. Moreover, if F(f) has an infinitely connected component, then the singleton buried components are dense in J(f). This generalizes a result of Baker and Dominguez. Finally, we give some examples of meromorphic functions with buried points but without any buried components.

Abstract:Certain classical results on cluster sets and boundary cluster sets of analytic functions, due to Iversen, Lindelöf, Noshiro, Tsuji, Ohtsuka, Pommerenke, Carmona, Cufi and others, are extended to n-dimensional quasiconformal mappings. Unlike what is usually the case in the context of analytic functions, our considerations are not restricted to mappings of a disk or ball only. It is shown, for instance, that quasiconformal cluster sets and boundary cluster sets, taken at a non-isolated boundary point of an arbitrary domain, coincide. More refined versions are established in the special case where the domain is the open unit ball. These include cluster set considerations of the induced radial boundary extension and results where certain exceptional sets on the boundary are allowed for.

Abstract:In this paper we prove the following: Take any "small Mandelbrot set" and zoom in a neighborhood of a parabolic or Misiurewicz parameter in it, then we can see a quasiconformal image of a Cantor Julia set which is a perturbation of a parabolic or Misiurewicz Julia set. Furthermore, zoom in its middle part, then we can see a certain nested structure ("decoration") and finally another "smaller Mandelbrot set" appears. A similar nested structure exists in the Julia set for any parameter in the "smaller Mandelbrot set". We can also find images of a Julia sets by quasiconformal maps with dilatation arbitrarily close to 1. This answers a question by Adrian Douady. All the parameters belonging to these images are semihyperbolic and this leads to the fact that the set of semihyperbolic but non-Misiurewicz and non-hyperbolic parameters is dense with Hausdorff dimension 2 in the boundary of the Mandelbrot set.

Abstract:We investigate some topological properties of Julia components, that is, connected components of the Julia set, of a transcendental entire function f with a multiply-connected wandering domain. If C is a Julia component with a bounded orbit, then we show that there exists a polynomial P such that C is homeomorphic to a Julia component of the Julia set of P . Furthermore if C is wandering, then C is a buried singleton component. Also we show that under some dynamical conditions, every such C is full and a buried component. The key for our proof is to show that some iterate of f can be regarded as a polynomial-like map on a suitable arbitrarily large bounded topological disk. As an application of this result, we show that a transcendental entire function having a wandering domain with a bounded orbit cannot have multiply-connected wandering domains.

Since then several classes of entire functions have been exhibited to support an affirmative answer to the question. In this paper, we shall complement or improve some of these results by exhibiting some new classes of entire functions.

Abstract:In this paper we explore a class of quadratic polynomials having Siegel disks with unbounded type rotation numbers. We prove that any boundary point of Siegel disks of these polynomials is a Lebesgue density point of their filled-in Julia sets, which generalizes the corresponding result of McMullen for bounded type rotation numbers. As an application, this result can help us construct more quadratic Julia sets with positive area. Moreover, we also explore the canonical candidate model for quasiconformal surgery of quadratic polynomials with Siegel disks. We prove that for any irrational rotation number, any boundary point of ``Siegel disk'' of the canonical candidate model is a Lebesgue density point of its ``filled-in Julia set'', in particular the critical point $1$ is a measurable deep point of the ``filled-in Julia set''.

Abstract:In this paper, we investigate the dynamics of a broader class of functions which are meromorphic outside a compact totally disconnected set. We shall establish the connections between the Fatou components and the singularities of the inverse function and, accordingly, give sufficient conditions for the non-existence of wandering domains or Baker domains, and for the Julia set to be the Riemann sphere. Through the discussion of permutability of such functions, we shall construct several transcendental ineromorphic functions which have Baker domains and wandering domains with special properties; for example, wandering and Baker domains with a critical value on the boundary and a wandering domain with the boundary being a Jordan curve (some such examples for entire functions were exhibited in other papers) and those of non-finite type which have no wandering domains.
