Abstract:In this work, we presented a new materials composed of hollow chitosan and hydroxyapatite (CS/HA) fibers were bio-fabricated by combining a coaxial extrusion with a water bath crosslinking and a 3D scaffold was fabricated by a 3D bioprinting system. The hollow structure could be clearly seen by SEM images. Degradation experiments proved that CS/HA scaffold had a high potential to adapt to a human environment and compression tests results revealed that the addition of an appropriate quantity of hydroxyapatite increases the mechanical properties. Moreover, cell viability reached 88 +/- 6.02% in the hollow constructs after 6 days of culture, proving good biocompatibility. Vascularization is vital and responsible for the sufficient supply in oxygen and nutrients to all cells. This study provides an important method for the production of a new materials composed of hollow chitosan and hydroxyapatite (CS/HA) to achieve vascularization by fabricating scaffold with built-in micro-channels in bone tissue engineering.
