Abstract:The reaction of trifluoromethylated tertiary bromides with isonitriles induced by visible light is reported. Defluorination was avoided in a radical process. This method provides an efficient approach to compounds containing a trifluoromethylated quaternary carbon center, most of which show excellent potential to be agrochemicals. In addition, the bromides were prepared from perfluoroisobutylene, which is a waste from industry, after several steps. This reaction shows a feasible transfer of harmful waste into useful compounds.

Abstract:A halogen-bond-promoted double radical isocyanide insertion of o-diisocyanoarenes with perfluoroalkyl bromides is reported, in which perfluoroalkyl bromides as halogen bond donors and organic bases as halogen bond acceptors. Fluoroalkyl radicals can be generated by a visible-light-induced single electron transfer (SET) process. Fluoroalkyl radicals are trapped by o-diisocyanoarenes to give 2-fluoroalkylated quinoxaline derivatives. These reactions could be carried out under mild conditions with good chemical yields and broad substrate scope. A broad range of fluoroalkyl bromides with different functionalities could undergo this reaction to give the corresponding quinoxaline derivatives in good yields. A variety of o-diisocyanides could be fluoroalkylated to give quinoxalines under our established conditions. The radical nature of this reaction was confirmed by electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) experiments using tert-butyl-a-phenylnitrone (PBN) as a spin trap. When PBN was introduced into the reaction mixture, a spectrum signal attributed to the spin adduct C8F17-PBN appeared as a triplet of doublets. Without light and amine, almost no signal was observed. These phenomena strongly suggested that the perfluoroalkyl radical was the key intermediate and the generation of the intermediate heavily relied on the presence of light and amine. A series of deuteration experiments were performed and these results suggested that both the amine and solvent could serve as the hydrogen source and solvent was the major source.

Abstract:An efficient method for the synthesis of isoquinolinone derivatives via photopromoted carboamination of alkynes is developed. Starting from the readily available propargyl alcohol derivatives, the polycyclic isoquinolinone derivatives could be obtained with good aryl and heterocycle tolerance. Both terminal and alkyl substituted alkynes could be employed. This protocol is operationally easy, and easily conducted on a gram-scale. A possible mechanism involving radical addition and cyclization following aromatization was proposed.

Abstract:Synthesis of polysubstituted (hetero)aromatic compounds enabled by visible-light-promoted radical triple bond insertions has been reviewed. A series of polysubstituted naphthols, furans and isoquinolones were prepared using radical alkyne insertions. 6-Substituted phenanthridine and 1-substituted isoquinoline and pyridine derivatives were synthesized assisted by radical isocyanide insertions. Furthermore, a wide scope of quinoline and quinoxaline derivatives were synthesized assisted by domino radical isocyanide/alkyne insertions and isocyanide/cyano insertions respectively. All reactions could be carried out under visible light photoredox catalysis with good to excellent chemical yields.

Abstract:A visible light-promoted radical relay of N-allylbromodifluoroacetamide with quinoxalin-2(1H)-ones was developed in which 5-exo-trig cyclization and C-C bond formation were involved. This protocol was performed under mild conditions to facilely offer a variety of hybrid molecules bearing both quinoxalin-2(1H)-one and 3,3-difluoro-γ-lactam motifs. These prepared novel skeletons would expand the accessible chemical space for structurally complex heterocycles with potential biological activities.

Abstract:For the first time, we achieved visible light-induced direct C3-hydroxyfluoroalkylation of quinoxalin-2(1H)-ones using N-trifluoroethoxyphthalimide as the trifluoroethanol radical precursor, without the need for a photocatalyst. The metal-free and catalyst-free nature of this method makes it an efficient and environmentally friendly approach for synthesizing C3-hydroxyfluoroalkylated quinoxalin-2(1H)-ones.

Abstract:A regiospecific synthesis of ortho-trifluoromethvlated and ortho-(fluoro)alkylated pyridine derivatives has been developed. This strategy is enabled by visible light-promoted vinyl isocyanide insertions with Umemoto's reagent and electron-deficient bromides at room temperature. The methodology presented here provides an access to highly functionalized ortho-(fluoro)alkylated pyridine derivatives regiospecifically under mild conditions with good yields. The proposed mechanism was supported by TEMPO trapping experiments. Stern-Volmer analysis and light off/on and time profile experiments.

Abstract:A visible-light-induced radical cascade cyclization of aryl isonitriles and cyclobutanone oxime esters for the synthesis of cyclopenta[b]quinoxalines has been accomplished for the first time. The key to the success of this process was the integration of the in situ-formed nitrile radical followed by the cascade radical isonitrile/nitrile insertion-cyclization. The easy introduction of substituents for both substrates and the high functional group tolerance of the reaction make it an efficient strategy to give various quinoxaline derivatives in moderate to good yields.

Abstract:A visible-light-induced radical cascade cyclization of 2-aryl- N -acryloyl indoles with 2‐mercaptothiazolinium salts is reported, furnishing the corresponding indolo[2,1- α ]isoquinoline derivatives in good to moderate yields. A series of primary, secondary, and tertiary alkyl bromides were converted conveniently into redox-active thiazolinium salts, which are subsequently transformed into alkyl radicals through interaction with an excited-state photocatalyst. This green and environmentally protocol features broad substrate scope under mild conditions.

Abstract:A photocatalyst‐free cascade reaction of N‐alkyl‐N‐arylmethacrylamides with monoalkyl cesium oxalate salts is described. In the presence of visible light and (NH4)2S2O8, monoalkyl cesium oxalate salts undergo single‐electron oxidation/CO2 extrusion to generate alkyl radicals, followed by the addition and subsequent cyclization to give alkylated oxindoles. In addition, N‐alkyl‐N‐methacryloylbenzamides could be applied for the cascade reaction, providing a series of alkylated isoquinolinediones, which are completely different from the products obtained with monoalkyl oxalates as substrates.

Abstract:A visible-light-promoted tandem radical intramolecular 5-exo-trig cyclization/heteroarylation between N-allyl-2-bromo-2,2-difluoroacetamides and quinoxalin-2(1H)-ones or coumarins has been developed without an external photocatalyst. By applying this new approach, a broad range of valuable α,α-difluoro-γ-lactam-fused quinoxalin-2(1H)-ones and coumarins (49 examples) can be facilely obtained at room temperature, thus showing the wide utility of this protocol. Moreover, mechanistic experiments reveal an involvement of an electron donor-acceptor (EDA) complex in this transformation.

Fluoroalkyl radicals can be generated by a visible-light induced single electron transfer (SET) process with fluorinated iodides as halogen bond donors and organic bases as halogen bond acceptors. Subsequently fluoroalkyl radicals add to terminal alkynes to afford the corresponding iodoperfluoroalkylated products with high yields and broad substrate scope at room temperature. Abstract:A convenient microwave-assisted method for the synthesis of multi-substituted isoquinolines from the radical insertion/cyclization reaction of vinyl isocyanides with a C(sp(3))-H bond adjacent to a heteroatom has been described. The methodology presented here achieves wide substrate scope and good to excellent yields. A radical mechanism is proposed, which is supported by kinetic isotope effect (KIE) studies, radical trapping studies and Hammett plot analysis.

Abstract:A visible-light-induced radical difluoroalkylation of quinox-alin-2(1H)-ones by hypervalent-iodine-based reagents was developed. To facilitate the final oxidative step, [bis(trifluoroacetoxy)iodo]benzene (PIFA) was employed as an oxidant. Moreover, a one-pot protocol for this transformation was realized by generating the difluoroalkylation re-agent in situ. The readily accessible reagents and the mild reaction conditions make this reaction an alternative and practical strategy for the synthesis of C(3)-difluoroalkylated quinoxalin-2(1H)-ones.

Abstract:The visible light-driven organophotoredox catalysis is reported for the construction of vicinal quaternary carbon centers. Intermolecular conjugate addition of alkyl radicals, derived from 2,2-disubstituted dihydroquinazolinones, to Michael acceptors under blue light irradiation and rhodamine B catalysis allows the facile assembly of diverse, vicinal secondary/quaternary, tertiary/quaternary, and quaternary/quaternary carbon centers at room temperature. Our method provides a synthetically versatile protocol since both 2,2-disubstituted dihydroquinazolinones and Michael acceptors can be conveniently prepared from readily available ketones.

Abstract:We describe an efficient method for α‐functionalization of N‐aryl‐tetrahydroisoquinolines under visible‐light‐irradiation catalyzed by organic photocatalyst. This protocol provides a concise and environmental approach for the rapid allylation and benzylation of N‐aryl‐tetrahydroisoquinolines, and shows broad substrate scope. Stable organoboron reagents have shown their ability in the construction of challenging Csp3–Csp3 bond. The load of the photocatalyst is low and the oxidant is inexpensive and less toxic.

Abstract:We developed a method to synthesize fluorinated 1,4-unsaturated dicarbonyl compounds via photoredox catalyzed radical addition process.
