Abstract:The Pingqiao fluorite-lithium deposit in Liuzhi, Guizhou is located in the southwest margin of Yangtze Block. Its lithium orebodies are hosted in the mudstone and micrite of the Permian Longyin Formation. Cookeite is considered as the main Li-carrier mineral of the deposit. Calcite is one of the most important gangue minerals in the deposit, and is distributed widely from the early-re to post-ore stages. Especially, lithium-bearing mineral was closely intergrown with some calcite veins whose trace elements may contain important mineralization information. Detailed studies of the field geological features, hand specimens and microscopic features of ores show that calcites of the early-ore stage (Cal-1) and the main-ore stage (Cal-2) are closely related to the lithium mineralization, but post-ore stage calcite (Cal-3) was formed after the lithium mineralization. The results of element contents determined by using the in-situ LA-ICP-MS analysis show that calcites of various stages have obviously different contents of trace and rare earth elements (REE) and significantly different REE distribution patterns. Generally, calcites have relatively high contents of Si, Na, Mg, Fe, Sr and Mn (mostly more than 100 ppm), indicating that these elements are enriched in the ore-forming fluids, and silicification, pyritization and dolomitization are closely related to the lithium mineralization in the deposit. Especially, trace element compositions of the Cal-1 and Cal-2 calcites are basically consistent, indicating that their ore-forming fluid sources have continuous evolutionary and inheritant relationships. Compared with the Cal-1 and Cal-2 calcites, the Cal-3 calcite has relatively enriched Al, Na, K and other elements, but relatively depleted Fe and Mn elements, with its trace element compositions quite different from those of calcites of the Li mineralization stage, indicating that there is a certain difference between the ore-forming fluid source of the post-ore-stage calcite and that of the ore-stage calcite. Moreover, the Cal-1 and Cal-2 calcites have weak negative/positive Eu anomalies, with δEu values generally decreased from the Cal-1 to Cal-2 calcites, and have MREE- and HREE-enriched REE distribution patterns, while the Cal-3 calcites of post-ore-stage have obviously negative Eu anomalies with flat REE distribution patterns. This indicates that the reducibility of the fluid was increased after the Li mineralization. In conclusion, there are significant differences in compositions of trace and rare earth elements among calcites of different stages. It is believed that the geochemical characteristics of trace elements and rare earth elements of calcites can be used to guide the geochemical exploration of lithium resources in the region.
