Treatment of Splenic Tumors-a Report of 16 Cases

Abstract:Objective To summarize the treatment experience of splenic tumors.Methods A retrospective study was performed on 16 cases of splenic tumors in our hospital in 16 years.The pathological types, diagnosis, treatment of splenic tumors and the survival time of the patients with splenic tumors were analyzed.Results Nine out of the 16 cases were diagnosed as having benign splenic tumor and the remaining malignant.Benign splenic tumors included hemangioma, inflammatory pseudotumors, lymphangioma and hamartoma.Malignant splenic tumors included Fibrosarcoma, hemangiosarcoma, lymphoma and metastatic tumors.There were no obvious symptoms and signs in early periods.Physical examination and image examinations were the main methods for splenic tumors.All patients were treated by splenectomy, whereas chemotherapy and radiotherapy were performed on malignant splenic tumors.Conclusion Early diagnosis and treatment were important for prolonging the survival time.Perfect physical examination and exact image examination were the main means of diagnosis for splenic tumors.
