Nutritional Support Strategy after Combined Abdominal Organ Resection

Abstract:Objective: To compare the effects of early enteral nutrition and total parenteral nutrition after combined abdominal organ resection.Methods: 28 patients who accepted combined organ resection were randomly divided into two groups(n=14): PN+EN group,TPN group.Patients in PN+EN group were treated with early enteral nutrition with partly parenteral nutrition for 7 days.Patients in TPN group accepted total parenteral nutrition for 7 days.The serum levels of albumin,prealbumin and transferrin were detected.The incidence of complication,total hospital expenses and the average of hospital stay were analyzed.Results: During the perioperative period,the levels of albumin,prealbumin and transferrin in two groups showed no significant differences(P0.05).However,the incidence of infectious complication in PN+EN group was significantly lower than TPN group(P0.01).The hospital expenses in PN+EN group was cheaper than TPN group(P0.01).Conclusion: Compared with total parenteral nutrition,early enteral nutrition can decrease infectious complication's incidence and save the hospital expenses after combined abdominal organ resection.
