Spectrophotometric Determination of O-Phthalaldehyde by Using L-Histidine

Abstract:At pH 8.00 buffer solution,o-phthalaldehyde reacted with L-histidine to form a complex which exhibited a sensitive absorption peak at 376 nm. The absorbance of the complex increased linearly to the concentration of o-phthalaldehyde in the range of 1.3×10~ - 6 ～2.6×10~ - 5 mol/L.The molar absorptivity was 4.94×10~ 3L·cm~ - 1 and the limit of detection was 5.54×10~ - 6 mol/L.The results showed that the method was very simple and sensitive.The new method was successfully applied to the determination of o-phthalaldehyde in disinfectant.
