Abstract:Pragmatics is the study of language use and comprehension. It studies not only the process of the speaker's use of language and external context to express meaning, but also the decoding process of the speaker’s utterances. The study of translation is a study of the translator's understanding of the original text and the reconstruction of the original meaning in translation. Both of them, language understanding and language expression, have common research objects. The former pays more attention to oral communication and its dynamic characteristics, while the latter pays more attention to text and written language. However, this difference does not prevent translation theory researchers from using pragmatic theories to explore translation activities. Written discourse and oral utterance are equally communicative and dynamic. In writing, the author takes the reader's receptive ability and cognitive context into account and shows his intention to the reader through discourse. If the author thinks that the reader is not familiar with a certain knowledge or mood and will affect the reader's interpretation and understanding of the work, he will write more details in this respect, and vice versa. By reading the author's works, readers can acquire new knowledge, fresh feelings, experience, and resonance with the author, even be influenced by the work and take some action to successfully complete the communication between the author and reader.

Abstract:Based on an introduction of some basic points of functionalist translation theory,this paper holds that the translator should stand in the shoes of the TL reader and select translating strategy in accordance with the expected skopos of the translated version.In respect to the actual practice of C-E translation of tourist texts,the author makes a detailed analysis of the application of the functionalist translation theory to the translation of tourist texts.The translator,as is argued,should not only be competent bilingually but also excel in understanding and resolving cultural differences.As long as he has respect for the source text,he is entitled to adjust or rewrite the source text in order to make his translation more comprehensible and acceptable to the target reader and achieve the intended purpose and function of the target text.

Abstract:Eugene Nida makes the Functional Equivalence Theory claim, an American famous linguist, and translator, which emphasizes that the goal of translation is to translate a message into the target language as accurately and organically as feasible. In order for the intended readers to respond and feel the same as the original readers, it heavily emphasized the informational and formal comparability. Chinese prose, a flexible kind of narrative fiction that reveals the actual feelings of the author, is one of the most significant genres in Chinese literature. Therefore, prose translation should not be underestimated and should be fully integrated with the Functional Equivalence Theory to better serve the information included in the source language, as well as the formal features of the language and the target readers' reading background. This paper examines the functional equivalence theory's application to the translation of contemporary Chinese prose by using a famous passage from The Sight of Father's Back to compare and contrast the source text and target text.

Abstract:Whereas translation scholars have succeeded in reaching agreements on many fundamental issues in their field,whether these consensuses are all relevant to and applicable in real-life situations of translation practices deserves a careful examination.A reality check reveals that many of the seemingly-solved problems or the seemingly-unified thoughts have not been generally recognized or implemented in the actual practices of translating.A case in point is the discrepancy between theorists' shared understanding of the tripartite criterion of" faithfulness,"" expressiveness" and" elegance" and its popular application in the assessment of translation in many practical fields.Taking notice of the gap,this paper seeks to rethink the criterion in question from a perspective that combines theoretical insights and practical imperatives and is sufficiently informed with the tension between the two.

Abstract:Over the past few years, with China's rising international status, the international arena has a more right to speak. The emergence of a large number of words with Chinese characteristics has played an important role in China's propaganda. When the eastern and Western cultures are blended, it is the most important task for the translators to spread the Chinese and Western culture to the western countries. The essence of translation is to translate one language into another, which is communicated to the audience. Translation theory is often divided into translation and interpretation, translation and translation skills such as transliteration, literal translation and free translation techniques, analysis of the basic skills of interpreting translation skills for the purpose of this paper is to reference the translation. The famous American translation theorist Nida "s Functional Equivalence Based on the theory, he believes that between the source language and the target language can be achieved at four levels of equivalence: vocabulary equivalence, syntactic equivalence, stylistic equivalence and textual equivalence. This paper analyzes the application of translation methods such as transliteration, literal translation and free translation from four levels of equivalence, and explores the translation of Chinese characteristics into English This paper discusses the English translation of Chinese tourism texts from the perspective of functional equivalence.

Abstract:From the perspective of functionalism, this article explores the specific methods and techniques of interpretation of verbal humor (from Spanish to Chinese, or vice versa) in order to achieve the goal of fluent communication. Therefore, we analyze the main standards of functionalist translation. According to these principles and specific examples of interpretation, we propose three methods of interpretation and their respective techniques: (a) Literal interpretation: the correspondence between the original text and the target text is achieved in form, content and function. (b) Free interpretation: the content and function are properly modified and retained. The specific techniques are amplification, compensation, enhancement and elision. (c) Interpretation and communication: the functions are maintained. The respective technique is partial replacement.
