Cultural Revival of Historic City

Abstract:Based on the author's living experience in Nanjing City and his long-term thinking on the conservation and renovation of historic cities such as Beijing, this article puts forward some suggestions on the conservation and renovation of the southern part of Nanjing City. In view of the rich historic and cultural relics in the neighborhoods to the east and west of Zhonghuamen,which has suffered from declination for a long period,the conservation and renovation should focus on both protection and development which can not be treated separately. Due attention should be paid to protecting the physical environment,as well as to assuring the livability of the citizens,so as to revive the urban culture of the declined districts through active protection and integrated innovation.
