Abstract:A single-stage three-phase power factor correction (PFC) and transformer series-parallel DC/DC converter is designed to meet the demand of high power output of electric vehicle charger. The converter combines three-phase PFC topology with phase shifted full bridge topology, using variable frequency control, to achieve the input PFC, bridge switches zero voltage switching turning on (ZVS) and output voltage adjustable. The primary windings are connected in series, the secondary windings are followed by the full bridge rectifier and the indutor before connected to achieve power expansion and power automatic balance. The working principle of the converter is analyzed, the parameter design and the device selection are designed,and the principle of automatic power equalization of the transformer is analyzed. Finally, a prototype is designed to verify the effectiveness of the converter.
Universal Zero-Voltage-Switching Technique for Multi-phase AC/DC Converter

Abstract:Universal zero-voltage-switching (ZVS) technique for multi-phase AC/DC converter is proposed. With the proposed technique, all switches of the multi-phase AC/DC converter can realize ZVS operation by using one auxiliary circuit. A ZVS-SPWM scheme for the multi-phase converter is introduced. The operation principle and the stage analysis are presented. Generic ZVS condition is derived according to the equivalent resonant circuits. Next, the design guideline of the resonant parameters is presented. Finally, a ZVS four-phase AC/DC converter called ZVS single-phase back-to-back (BTB) converter is investigated as an example and the prototype is set up to validate the proposed universal ZVS technique for the multi-phase converter.

Abstract:To analyze oscillation phenomenon caused by the interaction between converters and an AC grid, the impedance/admittance analysis method is a popular solution, in which each electrical component is represented by an external impedance/admittance matrix and a lumped matrix is formed for stability analysis. However, for converter-integrated power systems considering typical collector subsystems (e.g., the radial and the ring collector subsystems in wind farms and PV stations), the impedance network reduction to form the lumped impedance/admittance matrix (LIM/LAM) becomes complicated particularly for a ring collector subsystem, which affects the efficiency of the oscillation analysis. To address this problem, this paper proposes a method that can transform a typical topology of collector subsystems into a pure-parallel topology so that lumped admittance matrix is much easier to be derived. Algorithm complexity analysis confirms its computational advantages. A fifty-converter system is used to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Abstract:This paper proposes the theoretical analyses, design method, design process and design results of a high power bidirectional 48V-12V DCDC converter system in electric vehicle (EV) application. The design is divided into 3 levels that are topology level, control method level, and block level based on IC with 3 steps respectively. In topology level, full-bridge CLLC is chosen for its high efficiency and good stability. 8 stages are designed for full-bridge CLLC in one switching period. Topology design mainly focuses on determining resonant components by inherent frequency and quality factor. In control method level, FPD (Frequency, Phase shift, and Duty) influence the performance of the whole system in their own way and FPD control method is chosen for this system. In block level, a main control loop that consists of 3 interlaced loops is illustrated by functional blocks and achieved actually by IC design. The whole design is verified by analog IC simulation whose results confirm the basic function and expected performance of the system. The output voltage accuracy enters 0.1% range and efficiency is up to 99.15% in buck mode with full load. The performances of the converter system in other conditions are also competitive.

Abstract:In this paper, a single phase high step-up converter with coupled inductor multiplier is presented. By using the coupled inductor multiplier, the voltage gain of the converter is extended and the voltage stress of the switches is reduced. Therefore, the switch conduction losses can be minimized by employing low voltage-rated power devices. Meanwhile, the active-clamp circuit is introduced here to depress the main switch turn-off voltage spikes and recycle the leakage inductance energy. More importantly, both the main and clamp switches work in zero-voltage-switching (ZVS) condition, which reduces the switching losses effectively. Last but not the least, the reverse-recovery problem of the output diode is alleviated due to the leakage inductance of coupled inductor. Finally, the experimental results from a 500W 48V–760V prototype are provided to verify the effectiveness of the proposed converter.

Abstract:Aiming at the input with low voltage and large current,high gain,and high efficiency special requirements of the DC/DC module in the energy-feedback electronic load,the inventional circuit topologies and techniques were analyzed.A novel input parallel and output series topology which increases the step-up gain with the coupled inductance was introduced.Meanwhile,the soft-switching was implemented with the active clamp circuits.An interleaved parallel converter was designed based on this new topology to meet the large power requirement and decrease the current ripple effectively.Then the dead-time,winding ratio of the transformer and magnetizing inductance were analyzed,the fixed input current control of the converter with DSP was realized.The experimental results demonstrate that this scheme is feasible,the converter operates stably with high efficiency.

Abstract:Offshore wind farm with an internal medium-voltage dc (MVDC)-grid collection connected HVDC transmission may be an option to harvest offshore wind energy. High-power MV dc/dc converters with high-step-up conversion ratios are the key components for the internal MVDC grid. In this paper, a high-efficiency step-up resonant switched-capacitor converter for offshore wind energy system is studied, which is characterized by the soft-switching condition for all switches and diodes. This significantly reduces switching losses and higher switching frequency is feasible to reduce the overall system volume and weight. The comparisons with other two kinds of topologies are also presented; moreover, the possible specification requirements of high power MV dc/dc converters are analyzed and set. The operation principle of the proposed converter has been successfully verified by simulation and experiment results.

Abstract:In this article, the generic analysis and design of zero-voltage-switching (ZVS) multiphase ac/dc converters are proposed. With the edge aligned pulsewidth modulation (PWM) (EA-PWM) scheme, all switches of ZVS multiphase ac/dc converters can realize ZVS operation. Besides, the switching frequency is fixed and the auxiliary switch only operates once in each switching period. Its operation stages in a switching cycle are analyzed and a generic ZVS condition is derived. Based on the proposed theory, a ZVS two-stage three-phase photovoltaic (PV) inverter is investigated, which is regarded as a five-phase converter. Its ZVS condition under different working conditions is discussed. Finally, a 10-kW prototype with 150 kHz switching frequency of the ZVS two-stage three-phase PV inverter is built and the experimental results are given to verify the analysis. In addition, the extension of the ZVS multiphase converter in different applications is introduced.

Abstract:This letter proposes a new family of simple topologies of PWM AC-AC converters with minimal switches. With extension from the basic DC-DC converters, a series of AC-AC converters such as buck, boost, buck-boost, Cuk, and isolated converters are obtained. By PWM duty ratio control, they become a "solid-state transformer" with a continuously variable turns ratio. All the proposed AC-AC converters in this paper employ only two switches. Compared to the existing circuits that use six switches or more, they can reduce cost and improve reliability. The operating principle and control method of the proposed topologies are presented. Analysis and simulation results are given using the Cuk AC-AC converter as an example. The analysis can be easily extended to other converters of the proposed family.

Abstract:Three-phase resonant converter has attracted a lot of attention due to its ability to reduce current stress on the device, achieve automatic current balancing among each phase and realize good interleaving. However, its light load efficiency is not good due to the excessive switching loss, driving loss and core loss. In this paper, based on an integrated PCB winding magnetic structure, phase shading operation for three-phase resonant converter is analyzed. By shutting down one phase, the three-phase half-bridge structure changes to single-phase full-bridge structure, which helps improve the light load efficiency. In addition, the resonant tank becomes simple and simplified optimal trajectory control can be implemented for burst mode operation to further increase the efficiency. A 12.5 kW bidirectional three-phase CLLC resonant converter with 500 kHz operation frequency is developed to verify the above analysis and the result shows more than 1% efficiency improvement under light load condition.

Abstract:Z-source converters have been developed as a new type of converter besides the other two kinds of traditional converters: voltage-source and current-source converters. Z-source converter has many inherent advantages and is suitable for many applications such as fuel cell system or motor drive because of its single stage structure. Present research works are mostly focused on using Z-source network as a dc-link. For ac/ac conversion, a diode-rectifier front end is needed and the Z-source network will be employed on the dc-link. In this paper, a new three-phase ac-ac Z-source converter is proposed to perform ac/ac conversion directly. Compared to the traditional ac-ac converter, the new ac/ac converter has the same number of devices. Analysis and simulation for this three-phase ac/ac Z-source converter are presented. A 1 kW prototype was built and the experimental results verify the analysis

Abstract:In this paper a new topology of high step-down dc-dc converter is proposed. The proposed converter uses an interleaved structure with one phase using a traditional buck converter and the second phase uses its inverted version. By this technique a high step down voltage conversion can be achieved as compared to the traditional interleaved buck converter. Operating principle and steady state analysis of proposed converter is given. An experiment is carried out on a 25V input, 5V/1A output laboratory prototype to obtain experimental results and verify the effectiveness of the proposed converter. An efficiency of 83.7% is achieved at the rated load and a maximum efficiency of 88% is achieved at 0.5A load current.

Abstract:In this paper,a three-port DC-DC converter is proposed to meet the requirements of the hybrid renewable energy generation.The introduced topology has the advantages of electric isolation,soft-switching operation,and small input current ripple.The T/Δ equivalent transformation for the three-winding transformer is carried out to derive the unified expression for transformer’s power and RMS current expressions under five different operation modes.Then the general expression within all working conditions are obtained,which can simplify the circuit analysis and design complexity.The topology is proved to be with good soft switching characteristic by analyzing the operation range of soft switching.Finally,a 2.5 kW prototype is made and the experiments are conducted to verify the working modes with wide voltage input and the soft switching characteristics.The results prove the correctness of the theoretical analysis.

Abstract:This paper presents the design and implementation of the space vector modulated 3Φ-3Φ Matrix Converter with bi-directional switches for AC motor is presented.This control strategy,which employs simultaneous output-voltage and input-current space vector modulation,can regulate the input/output sinusoidal waveforms of matrix converter with unity input power factor and ensure the good drive performance of induction motor.In order to implement this strategy and deliver the PWM pulses to the appropriate switches, digital signal processor (DSP) and generic array logic (GAL) are used.Simulation and experimental tests verify the practical feasibility of the proposed control scheme.

Abstract:The detailed study has been paid for PWM control of single-phase H-bridge rectifier/inverter,which is able to implement double-direction energy flow.It also compares advantages and disadvantages between singlepole and double-pole PWM inverter.When H-bridge operates as a rectifier,power factor correction(PFC) function must be implemented.Namely,input sinusoidal current and power factor 1 in AC side of the rectifier is satisfied.Also when H-bridge operates as an inverter,output sinusoidal current and power factor 1(when connects to electric grid) is ensured.At last,the simulation of H-bridge operation under one cycle control(OCC) is completed with Matlab/Simulink software.It verifies the validity of H-bridge analysis and control with single-pole PWM better than that of double-pole PWM.

Abstract:Most mature converters topologies for ac power conversion are inverter types, which require relatively short lifetime electrolytic capacitors. The cost, size, and weight of the converter are thus limited. While alternative solutions based on the single-phase direct ac-ac topologies are subject to zero crossing constraints, which prevent them from replacing the inverter with low reliability. In this paper, a novel virtual quadrature source-based sinusoidal modulation approach is proposed. Also, improved single-phase-based direct ac-ac topologies are derived based on the high-frequency link concept. As a result, ac voltage output with arbitrary amplitude, phase, and frequency can be synthesized only using the single-phase-based topologies. This feature eventually enables the converters to perform functions such as power line conditioning and electrical ac motor drives. Since no large dc link electrolytic capacitor is required, system reliability can be enhanced. Furthermore, the cost and the size are reduced. The proposed approach and the circuits are presented and analyzed in detail. Both simulation and experimental results show the effectiveness of the proposed concept and the converters when applying to power line conditioning and electrical ac motor drive applications.

Abstract:In order to solve the problems of low operation efficiency and short life time of medium-voltage (MV) AC grid-connected converter, a topology of AC Side connected-in-series modular quasi-single-stage isolated AC-DC converter is proposed in this paper. The electrolytic capacitor applied in the traditional two-stage topology is removed in the proposed topology to improve the life time and power density. An improved triple-phase-shifted modulation strategy to minimize the transformer current is adopted in each module to achieve the full soft-switching operation and improve the efficiency. A mathematical model is built to analyze the reasons for the unbalance of the capacitor voltage on the AC side of each module and the effect of grid harmonics on the grid current. A system level closed-loop control strategy is proposed, which includes the AC side voltage balance control of each module and the grid current closed-loop control, to achieve the voltage balance and high grid connection performance. The feasibility and practicability of the proposed topology and control strategy are verified by the experiments.
