Abstract:Objective To assess the dominant factors impacting on health-related quality of life (HRQoL) among patients with Parkinson's disease (PD). Methods Ninety-nine PD patients were assessed using Parkinson's Disease Questionnaire-39(PDQ-39),Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale(UPDRS)Ⅱ-Ⅴ,Mini Mental State Examination(MMSE),Hamilton Rating Scale for Depression-17 (HRSD-17),Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HAMA),Parkinson's disease sleep scale(PDSS),and Epworth sleepiness scale(ESS). Predominant factors impacting on HRQoL were analyzed. Results Bivariate analysis showed that PDQ-39 summary index(PDQ-39SI) positively correlated with disease course, daily levodopa dose,Hoehn-Yahr stage, the scores of UPDRSⅡ,Ⅲ,Ⅳ,HRSD-17,HAMD,ESS(P<0.01) as well as PD types (P<0.05),and negatively correlated with the scores of MMSE,PDSS(P<0.01). Mutiple stepwise regression showed that factors determining the PDQ-39SI(HRQoL) of PD patients were the scores of UPDRSⅡ,HRSD-17 and ESS. These factors accounted for 72.1% of the variability of the PDQ-39SI. Conclusions Non-motor symptoms, such as depression and ESS,have significant influences on HRQoL. Treatment for these non-motor symptoms should be emphasized.
