Abstract:Objective: To observe the clinical outcome of intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) using retrieved testicular sperm by percutaneous testicular sperm aspiration (PTSA), using cryopreserved sperm after PTSA, or using ejaculated semen. Methods: A total of 168 cycles of patients underwent ICSI treatment from February to December in 2009 were studied retrospectively. The 168 cycles were divided into three groups: 95 cycles used ejaculated semen, 41 cycles used testicular sperm by PTSA, and 32 cycles used cryopreserved sperm after PTSA. The outcomes of fertilization, embryo and pregnancy were compared among the three groups. Results: There was no statistical difference in the numbers of normal fertilized oocytes, cleavage, transplanted embryos, high-quality embryos as well as clinical pregnancy rate, spontaneous abortion rate and delivery rate per cycle among the three groups. Conclusion: PTSA with ICSI is an effective approach for the patients with azoospermia. There is no influence on clinical outcome of ICSI using cryopreserved sperm after PTSA.
