Abstract:With the rapid urban growth, understanding the urban biophysical composition and dynamical changes becomes an important research topic.Remote sensing technology plays a great role in monitoring the urban composition and temporal-spatial changes.Spectral mixture analysis provides a method for describing the urban environment, modelling urban development and analyzing the environmental effect. This paper takes Nanjing city as an example, utilizes ETM+ remotely sensed data and a normalized spectral mixture analysis method to monitor the urban composition. In particular, firstly, the reflectance is normalized for reducing or eliminating the spectral variability of pure land cover types, thus improving the accuracy of endmember selection. Then selects the vegetation, impervious surface and shade as endmembers and monitoring the urban compositon using a constrained linear spectral mixture analysis on the normalized reflectance image. At last, this paper compared the results of SMA used before and after normalizing operation and validates, that this method can improve the accuracy of spectral mixture analysis effectively.
