Abstract:The settlement data of oil storage tanks made of steel are measured by the measurement points located around the base of the tank wall. The measured settlement data need to be curve fitted in order to reflect the settlement distribution around the whole tank wall base. Considering about the disadvantage of measured settlement data treatment methods on tanks in current standards, an optimization method of curve fitting on the measured settlement data is presented. The Fourier series expansion is used to analyze the measured settlement data, the fitting curves and mean square error according to different order are obtained. The fitting curve with minimum mean square error is selected as the most appropriate one that reflects the actual displacement of the tank base. The optimization method of curve fitting present is applied to analyze the measured settlement data obtained from the floating roof tank and the fixed roof tank. Results show that different effects can be obtained with different order of the fitting curve. Curve fitting referring to different order is necessary to the measured settlement data in actual engineering in order to find the most appropriate one that reflects the real tank base displacement distribution.

Abstract:In engineering practice, we face a problem of using some collected data to evaluate a kind of machine or equipment. Curve fitting is a common method to solve this problem. Least square method is wildly applied in this procedure. If the source data of curve fitting can be grouped in samples and the distinction of samples obviously express some character in source data collecting which cannot be ignored. Conventional curve fitting method cannot handle these source data. To deal with this disadvantage, we introduce an improved curve fitting method. Through source data analysis, we can find out the relationship between sample location and weight factor in curve fitting, and use these weight factors for curve fitting. To approach the true curve, we introduce an iterative procedure to modify the weight factors. An engineering example is given to illustrate this proposed method.

Abstract:The settlement curve of the foundation endured the ramp load is a S-type curve, which is usually simulated via Poisson curve. Based on the Bayesian theory, a probability method was proposed to estimate the parameters of the Poisson curve. The results evaluated by the present method are the parameters’ posterior distributions, different from those of the traditional approaches. After calculating the parameters’ posterior distribution, the predictive distribution of settlement can also be obtained. The case shows that the results estimated by the probability method are more reasonable. The present method provides more parameters, and good for wide application.

Abstract:The theoretical foundations of observational settlement prediction by methods of curve fitting are discussed. The fundamentals and the characteristics of the four methods (exponential, hyperbolic, Asaoka and logistic curves methods) are compared. Based on the observational settlement data of eight practical projects, the advantages and shortcomings of these methods are studied. Finally, several key problems for observational settlement prediction are put forward.

Abstract:In this paper, two methods of changing the control parameter a and changing control points are presented for the shape modification of C-Beier curves. The relation between C-Beier curves and the control parameter a is obtained based on the analysis of the derivative C-Beier basis functions. Furthermore, the way of modifying the shape by the adjustment of a is introduced. On the other hand, the algorithm of shape control by modifying control points is given relying on the model between the shape of the curve and control points. The results have been applied to the CAD/CAM system for speaker cone models, which has got a good effect.
The Application and Comparison of Different Nonlinear Fit Methods

Abstract:We used three different methods, that is, the curve linearization method, nonlinear least square method and the approximate nonlinear method, to analyze the same statistical problem and gave a comparison of these three methods. The regression model is proved of statistical significance by variance analysis, and the fitting effect is described quantitatively by determinant coefficient R2. The results suggest that the nonlinear least square method and the approximate nonlinear method can fit the curve perfectly and possess the similar determinant coefficient while the curve linearization method leads to a relatively worse result.

Abstract:In traditional curve fitting methods,the error of independent variable was usually ignored.In the paper,the method of least squares orthogonal distance fitting is presented.This method gave a new criterion which is to minimize the square sum of orthogonal distance,and delete outliers of point clouds,so it is the best fitting curve.The results show that the proposed algorithm is reliable.

Abstract:Circle curve fitting is always the important issue of the engineering technology. The effect of circle curve fitting is influenced by both the data quality and fitting method. In this paper, using the special properties of circle, that's the error value of any two radius is zero. Then the method of circle curve fitting was proposed, by finding the minimum error distance between any two fitting points and the fitted center points. Under various test data points, both our algorithm and other classical algorithms can get accurate circle fitting. Especially, the method of this paper can get more accurate results, under the situation that the degree of dispersion of the fitting points is bigger and the radian of the fitting points is smaller.

Abstract:The paper designed a way to judge the motion trend of the press-fit curve. The algorithm fits the curve with the data from the "entering the frame" region and the "leaving the frame" region. We use the fitting result, two lines, to judge whether the trend of the motion is normal or not. Finally, we test the algorithm in the laboratory with limited data. We find the algorithm is useful and it can be applied in the industrial production.

Abstract:This essay took fitting method of weighted average parabola as an example to study the confirmation of the rule of laying out sampling points considering smooth terrain curve model in late.The studies showed that in order to fitting the terrain curve smoothly,besides based on the tradition way increasing redundant sampling points(acquisition quality control point)appropriately,we also need according the smooth fitting model based on the late,to plan the point location of these test points.Then we could observe the high-fidelity reconstruction and scientific sampling of the terrain curve effectively.

Abstract:The moving least-squares (MLS) method has been developed for fitting measurement data contaminated with errors. The local approximants of the MLS method only take the random errors of the dependent variable into account, whereas the independent variables of measurement data always contain errors. To consider the influence of errors of dependent and independent variables, the moving total least-squares (MTLS) method is a better choice. However, both MLS and MTLS methods are sensitive to outliers, greatly affecting fitting accuracy and robustness. This paper presents an improved method, the trimmed MTLS (TrMTLS) method, in which the total least-squares method with a truncation procedure is adopted to determine the local coefficients in the influence domain. This method can deal with outliers and random errors of all variables without setting the threshold or adding small weights subjectively. The results of numerical simulation and experimental measurements indicate that the proposed algorithm has better fitting accuracy and robustness than the MTLS and MLS methods.

Abstract:Camber means the bending trend of the large-sized revolving part. According to the characteristic of NURBS curve's local rational interpolation, this paper proposes a kind of new camber evaluation method based on NURBS curve. By comparison with the evaluation error of the former one, this based-on NURBS curve camber evaluation method can supply a smoother and higher dimension's mathematic model. The computer simulation also shows this camber evaluation method heightened camber evaluation precision and improved the theoretical model for pressure straightening parameter's study.
Fitting and prediction of observational settlement for soft ground

Abstract:Several methods are studied for fitting or prediction of observational settlements. The total settlements of two practical projects are analyzed. The back-check and the correlation degree method are used to discuss the results of fitting and prediction, so that all these methods can be evaluated by using an unified standard. It is shown that the artificial neural network is a successful way to fit the whole settlement curve. The results of the artificial neural network forecast are in good coincidence with the observed results. The hyperbolic curves fitting method is considered as the most effective one among traditional methods. When the gray system is used to predict settlements of later period, the precision is improved with the renovation of the model.

Abstract:In the optimum curve-fitting method, due to the dissimilar purposes, the discrepant accuracy and positions of the experience points, the importance of the points should be different. For the limited sample size of the hydrologic sequence, there are sampling errors in the parameter estimation. In order to focus on the important points and reduce the errors effectively, the weight has been introduced in the optimum curve-fitting method. The existing weighted optimum curve-fitting methods are analyzed and studied. The Fuzzy Weighted Optimum Curve-fitting Method (FWOCM), which are the limited nomograph length and the determination of the membership degree function without the premise of a large sample. In order to solve the problems, the improvement of the method should be conducted. A new membership degree function is deducted and demonstrated on the premise that the hydrologic sequence is a large sample. The Monte Carlo statistical test optimum curve-fitting method is used to extend the nomograph to the entire frequency range. The improved FWOCMs are tested by the ideal data and the real data. In order to evaluate the performances of the improved FWOCMs, the selected excellent method and the improved percentage method are introduced to analyze the relative errors. The results show that the extension of the nomograph and the new membership degree function to a certain extent weakens the impact of the shorter hydrologic sequence on the curve-fitting. It indicates that the effect of the improved optimum curve-fitting methods is satisfying and can be used in the engineering practice.

Abstract:On the base of research results about numerical calculation,a new method: least square method fit is put forward.According to the least-square principle,the time difference,which minimizes the sum of squares of deviations between the flow volumes obtained at two traffic survey stations become the least,is just the travel time between the two traffic survey stations.By applying the field data from the expressway in Beijing,the new method is verified and its application conditions are analyzed.The method is suitable for the conditions that the traffic stream runs stably or changes evenly.With an overall comparison of the different the traffic survey methods for calculating travel time,some proposals are made for the fixed spot survey.
A New Curve Fitting Method for Forming Limit Experimental Data

Abstract:The forming limit curve (FLC) can be obtained by means of curve fitting the limit strain points of different strain paths. The theory of percent regression analysis is applied to the curve fitting of forming limit experimental data. Forecast intervals of FLC percentiles can be calculated. Thus reliability and confidence level can be considered. The theoretical method to get the limits of limit strain points distributing region is presented, and the FLC position can be adjusted according to practical requirement. Method for establishing FLC with high reliability using small samples is presented at the same time. This method can make full use of the current experimental data and the previous data. Compared with the traditional method that can only use current experimental data, fewer specimens are required in the present method to obtain the same precision and the result is more accurate with the same number of specimens.
