The training and role of the mental health liaison nurse in a general hospital

Abstract:This paper introduced the training and role of the mental health liaison nurse in Sir Run Run Shaw Hospital,a general affiliated hospital of Zhejiang University. The training included professional training,psychological assessment and counseling qualification training and regular on-going training of professional skills. The routine work of the mental health liaison nurse focused on psychological assessment in the outpatient department,consultation-liaison,clinical supervision,critical incident stress debriefing,mental health training and peer support. In From2005 to 2014,the mental health liaison nurse played a positive role in patient mental health management,mental health knowledge training and nursesu0027 psychological support. Annually,the mental health liaison nurse serves 1588 cases of outpatient interviews,587 cases of consultation liaison,63 cases of clinical supervision,8 cases of critical incident stress debriefing,61 cases of individual counseling for nurses and more than 30 training programs. The role of the mental health liaison nurse as a mentor,educator,consultant and liaison achieves significant effect in general hospitals.
