Abstract:Objective To investigate the relationship between cardiac diastolic function and peripheral nerve conductive velocity in type 2 diabetic patients. Methods Cardiac diastolic function (measured by pulsed Doppler echocardiography), peripheral nerve conductive velocity (measured by EMG),HbA1c and serum lipid profiles were measured in 72 patients with Diabetes Mellitus and 35 normal subjects. Results Compared with normal subjects, cardiac diastolic function(expressed as the ratio of E/A) in type 2 diabetic patients significantly decreased (P<0.05). Moreover, cardiac diastolic function in patients with reduced peripheral nerve conductive velocity was significantly lower than those with normal peripheral nerve conductive velocity(P<0.001). Conclusion Cardiac diastolic function is decreased in type 2 diabetic patients. With the reduction of peripheral nerve conductive velocity, cardiac diastolic function may be further decreased.
