Abstract:HFC (Hybrid Fiber Coax) provides a kind of broadband access way for multimedia and broadband services. The structure and the spectrum allocation scheme of HFC are described. The MAC layer and PHY layer of dual-direction HFC network are analyzed in detail. The upstream channel allocation scheme in MAC and the scenario of PHY in DOCSIS (Data-Over-Cable Service Interface Specification) are presented. Finally, The software and hardware designs of CM (Cable Modem) and CMTS (Cable Modem Terminal System) conforming to DOCSIS are given.

Abstract:Asymmetric digital subscriber line (ADSL) is a technique that performs asymmetric high-speed data transmission on two-wire twisted metallic cable pairs. Because it can provide a standard, economical, and convenient broadband access, ADSL is widely applied in the future. ADSL transceiver consists of two parts: ATU-C (ADSL terminal unit-center office) and ATU-R (ADSL terminal unit-remote). There are two types of ATU-R which are the extended one and the internal one. ITU Recommendation G. Dmt and G. Lite describe the characters of ADSL transceiver, in which DMT (discrete multitone) modulation is adopted. This paper, firstly describes the principle of DMT modulation in brief, then constructs a platform of external ADSL terminal unit-remote (ATU-R)for G. Dmt, using the method for embedded system design. Finally the hardware and the software architectures are presented in detail. Experimental results show that the ATU-R can successfully implement some broadband services.

Abstract:Submarine optical cable systems carry more than 95% of international communication capacity and are the most important routing for trans-oceanic network transmission. Optical technology is the foundation for 5G and IOTs development demands, and the guarantee for communication security. Based on the large-scale application of global digital technology, the internet flow has increased by 12 times compared with 2010, and along with the development of 5G, and other technologies, system capacity demand is increasing year by year. In the past 25 years, the capacity of single-core fiber has approached the Shannon-Hartley theory, and traditional communication can no longer meet the increasing demand for transmission capacity. SDM (Space Division Multiplex) technology has emerged, and submarine optic systems enter into the era of SDM1.0 . This report mainly introduces the history and development trend of submarine optical cable system, and according to the surge of capacity and new transmission requirements, a new generation based on SDM of repeatered trans-oceanic submarine cables is proposed and designed.

Abstract:The large-scale distributed network has exposed increasing attack surfaces to cyber attackers. In this paper, we present a refined network measurement mechanism, called DDoS Collaborative Mitigation Mechanism (DDoSCCM). Based on former achievements in the programmable network, our work aims at capturing the characters of abnormal traffic and presenting an antedating reaction, constrained by limited resources of the switching ASIC. In-band Network Telemetry (INT) technique achieves real-time monitoring of the network by utilizing the device data acquisition on the data plane. Our work helps the network operator not only to learn the status of the network but also to issue an appropriate mitigation strategy faster and more accurately. DDoSCCM aims at delegating both detection and mitigation processes to the programmable switch. Consequently, the theoretical analysis and experimental results show that DDoSCCM can meet practical requirements and have a certain application value.

Abstract:HFC (Hybrid Fiber Coaxial) is a key access network, it has the special tree-and-branch topology. The most key issues in MAC (Medium Access Control) protocol design of the HFC network are focused on how to resolve the collision efficiently, how to improve the bandwidth utility, how to lower the access time delay while using upstream channels. This paper theoretically analyze the main factors that affect these performances of a MAC protocol based on most popular designs. Also we study the performance of DOCSIS v1.0 MAC protocol through simulation. The test results approve our analysis well. This paper can give us some guidance in our further exploration of HFC access technology.

Abstract:Aiming at monitoring the behaviour of power system to make it work correctly and better, cyber physical power system (CPPS) was introduced. However, due to the high integration of cyber system, the complexity of power system is greatly enhanced, which puts forward higher requirements for the reliable and safe operation of CPPS. Moreover, when the cyber system is under attack, abnormal information flow may lead to abnormal energy flow. Therefore, this paper proposes a data transmission mechanism to analyse the information flow among CPPS. A data transmission optimization model based on the transmission matrix is constructed. The data transmission from the cyber system to the power system is quantified by the model. The practicability of the proposed data transmission mechanism is given by numerous cases.

Abstract:We propose and investigate energy-saving algorithms for DOCSIS-3.0 networks. By proactively monitoring traffic load, the algorithms achieve network-wide energy saving by re-adjusting CM's bonding groups and shutting down under-utilized upstream/downstream ports on the CMTS. Numerical simulations indicate that by applying the CM side algorithm only, we can achieve a possible 17.6% energy saving for 8192 CMs. We also study the fundamental tradeoff between energy-saving and packet queuing delay and estimate the upper bounds of the delays.

Abstract:In exploitation of oil and natural gas,the amount of datum uploaded from downhole logging tools will be larger and larger with the logging technology transformed into imaging and resultant.So it is essential to develop high efficiency communication system to solve the bottleneck problem of NC logging technology.For this purpose,proposed is one OFDM-based modulation demodulation system scheme for single-core logging cable,and completed is the hardware and software system design to fulfil the scheme.Then carried out is the system-level simulation in MATLAB to simulate the realization process of the system and the methods of digital signal processing.The simulation result demonstrates that the design is correct and feasible.Due to the use of advanced modulation and demodulation techniques of OFDM,the data transmission rate is improved from 22.8kbit/s to 102.4kbit/s.This transmission rate meets the request of the imaging logging and resultant logging for single-core cable logging system.

Abstract:We propose energy-saving algorithms to improve the energy efficiency of hybrid fiber coaxial (HFC) networks that support DOCSIS (Data Over Cable Service Interface Specification) 3.0 standard. The algorithms incorporate a traffic-aware approach and modify the operation statuses of the two primary network elements, the cable modem (CM) and the cable modem termination system (CMTS), dynamically. For the CM-side operation, we first propose a basic algorithm that can optimize the CMs’ energy efficiency, regardless of significant increase of the packet delay and the number of operation changes (NoOC). We then propose two modified approaches to reduce the packet delay and NoOC while saving energy. Simulations with these algorithms show 37.5%–42.2% energy saving on the CM side, compared to the traditional case where the CMs’ operation statuses are static. Next, we propose a CMTS-side energy-saving algorithm to find the actual connection mapping between the CM channels and CMTS ports. The proposed algorithm tries to support CM connections with minimal numbers of CMTS ports. To further improve the energy efficiency of the CMTS, we design a readjustment approach that can reorganize CM connections on CMTS ports based on their loads. Simulation results show that 31.08%–32.61% energy saving can be achieved on the CMTS in total. Hence, the proposed algorithms achieve effective energy saving on both the CM and CMTS sides.

Abstract:A Markov process model is proposed for the data flow in communication systems in which there are several types of data generated by multiple data sources and there is one output channel. Accurate algorithms to compute the performance indexes including data loss possibility, data transmission rate and output channel uti- lization rate under given finite buffer capacity are given. The model is applied to evaluate the performance of Se- lective admission policies.

Abstract:In 3G mobile communication system, mobile broadband data services create great opportunities on revenue growth for network carriers. In the mean time, the dramatically increased subscribers make the access and core network more and more over-loaded everyday. Unfortunately, majority of wireless bandwidth is consumed by non revenue driven application traffic such as the P2P downloading, illegal VoIP and file sharing that launched by minority of subscribers. This phenomenon seriously affects the experience of normal users. From the perspective of network carriers, network performance and user behavior should be monitored to detect mis-conducts and abnormal utilization in real time so as to achieve utilization fairness and efficiency. In this paper, we implement the deep packet inspection (DPI) technology into the CDMA 1x EV DO mobile network packet switch (PS) domain and construct a DPI based network traffic monitoring, analysis and management system. With the system, subscriber, cell, base station, PCF and PDSN based traffic monitoring and control, and application based traffic management is enabled. As a result, network capacity has been fully utilized by setting the application rate threshold, customer satisfaction has been greatly improved by keeping fair bandwidth utilization.

Abstract:DIDD(double increase double decrease) protocol is a typical enhanced 802.11 DCF protocol for WLANs(wireless local area networks).To analyze the performance of DIDD in non-saturated conditions,a 3-D discrete-time Markov chain model of the backoff procedure was presented to compute the steady state packet transmission probability;a 1-D discrete-time Markov chain model of the initial backoff stage transition was presented to compute the steady state distribution of initial backoff stage number.The non-saturated throughput and packet delay expressions were made by queuing theory.Given a certain offered load,the stable throughput and mean packet delay can be recursively computed.The throughput and packet delay of theoretical analysis are consistent with that of simulations under various load rates.This model provides a theoretical analysis framework for the similar enhanced DCF protocols and presents a criterion for the protocol parameters design.
