Abstract:The Modified agglutination test(MAT) for diagnosis of Toxoplasma gondii was initially developed by Dubey in 1978.Up to now, this test has been extensively used in Europe and America Here, tachyzoites are treated with formalin, and sera are treated with 2-mercaptoethanol to remove non-specific IgM or IgM-like substances. This test detects only IgG antibodies by agglutination to diagnose Toxoplasmosis. All sera from 193 dogs,56 cats, and 80 pigs were detected, and the results were in good agreement with ELISA,and IHA.No cross reaction was observed in 156 animal sera from Neosporosis,Chlamydiosis and other contagions. This method was proved to be of high specificity and duplicability. However, this test is unsuited to be used in most farms because it requires long time and abundant tachyzoites to ensure Toxoplasmosis.
