Abstract:Objective To study the anxious status of pre-diebetic population, and analyze the association of anxiety with early detection of disease and quality of life in pre-diabetics.Methods A total of 148 patients with pre-diabetes were recruited. The self-rating anxiety scale(SAS) designed by Zung was used to investigate the subjects′ anxiety and quality of life. The levels of glycosylated hemoglobin(HbA1c) at initial diagnosis(baseline) and 6-month later. Results The patients with pre-diabetes had a higher score of anxiety than the norm of Chinese [(55±11) vs.(33±13),P0.01].The anxiety score was inversely associated with HbA1c at both baseline and 6-month later(P0.05),and the scores in four dimensions of quality of life(P0.05);but it was not correlated with body mass index(P0.05).Conclusion Anxiety may facilitate early detection of disease. However,it is harmful to adjustment of quality of life after diagnosis. So anxiety of pre-diabetics should be assessed as early as possible to provide an evidence for an early detection of the disease and to take an appropriate intervention so that the patients′ quality of life can be improved.
