Land Ecological Security Assessment in the Coastal Zone of Hainan Island

Abstract:The purpose of this paper is to assess the land ecological security in the coastal zone of Hainan island in terms of the importance of ecological protection,and to reveal the differences and main influential factors.The methods include using RS and spatial analysis of GIS to complete the general assessment,and then calculating the region ecological security index.The results show that the general condition of ecological security in the coastal zone of Hainan island was at medium level,and 81.8% of areas were beyond medium.The poor situation zones were in the eastern coast and some new industrial parks,where the regional development were intensive and extensive.The paper concludes that the general condition on land ecological security is fine.The poor performance in some area was caused by the aquaculture industry development,real estate and infrastructure establishment.The unreasonable land resource utilization led to the shelter belt and wetland ecosystem destruction,which further harmed the land ecological security in coastal zone.
