Abstract:Improving coding speed was a key problem of image fractal compression.The authors used defined eigenvalues to obtain the father-block or child-block characteristics by the self-contrast.The author proved that there were conditions for the existence of the father-block need just search for eigenvalues characteristics of father-blocks;and thus reduce the searching complexity.A method is introduced whereby the father-block after circumvolution does have change in its eigenvalue, so that in the search for ineffective father-block,the number of times of comparatively rapid calculation is distinctly reduced.Experimental results show that the search for eigenvalues is 3 or 4 times faster than that for non-eigenvalues while the quality of restituted images is not influenced by the search process.
A Fast Fractal Image Compression Coding Method

Abstract:Fast algorithms for reducing encoding complexity of fractal image coding have recently been an important research topic. Search of the best matched domain block is the most computation intensive part of the fractal encoding process. In this paper, a fast fractal approximation coding scheme implemented on a personal computer based on matching in range block's neighbours is presented. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm is very simple in implementation, fast in encoding time and high in compression ratio while PSNR is almost the same as compared with Barnsley's fractal block coding .

Abstract:After analyzing the merit and disadvantage of hybrid fractal zerotree wavelet image coding algorithm, a new improved coding algorithm based on the IFS mapping in the DWT domain is proposed. In this algorithm, the performances as zerotree-based encoder and fractal image coder are combined in the wavelet domain. Using oriented range and domain subtrees in the matching process, the matching precision is enhanced. For this reason, the image can be reconstructed blocklessly with more edge information retained. Experiment results are satisfactory, especially the compression ratio can be improved and the block effect in the reconstructed image can be eliminated.

Abstract:In this paper, we propose using the multiresolution method to enhance the speed of the fractal image compression First, we apply the wavelet decomposition to the domains and the ranges to obtain their multiresolution representation Then, irt the searching process, compute the matching error from the lowest resolution to the highest, Once the matching error for a domain is bigger than the current minimal error in one level, the domain is refused. Since most domains consist primarily of low frequency component, it is often that unsuitable domains are refused in the low resolution. in cooperation with the quadtree partition, our method greatly reduce the encoding time Moreover, we adopt a new transforming form to speed up decoding.

Abstract:Fractal image compression has high compression ratio compared with normal methods, but it bears a computation complexity for searching the matching blocks. This paper proposes two kinds of improvement methods to reduce the compression complexity. In these suggested methods, the local iteration function system with gray level maps (LIFSM) is combined with other kinds of schemes: (1) discrete cosine transform (DCT) called SMDSMD and (2) two dimensional interpolation called LIFSMI. Due to the DCT schemes and interpolation are more simple in limited area, so they can keep the advantage of LIFSM and speed up the computation and improve the image quality. Some experiments show the efficient results by using the proposed schemes.

Abstract:Fractal code is approved an effective method to compress digital image. It proposes a new method to analyze digital image retrieval by fractal iterative function system. By image fractal code and obtained its iterative function, then the image and its iterative function are saved database becoming index file of the image. When database is searched and image index file is compared so that user retrieval images similar to query image. The index files of based on fractal code have three characteristics, the first, similar images have similar iterative functions so can produce similar index files; the second, similar index files can retrieval similar images; the third, no similar images have no similar iterative functions, vice versa. Compare to other methods are used to create database, their index files have not these characteristics. The fractal code produces large of data and needs an effective method to retrieval. So it combines to fractal function information, based on discriminant analysis estimating images similarity, so that determine correlation sequence of all images in database similar to query image. Experiment shows this retrieval method specialties, efficiency and robustness.

Abstract:Fractal theory was used to derive the following three IFS based improved image generation methods: IFS with probabilities method, coherence transformation method, and parameters method. In the IFS with probabilities method, the frequencies of the n transformations are different, which makes some transformations more important than others; some colors richer than others, the images true to life reality. The IFS with coherence method involves two different transformations: coherent ones at some positions and stretched ones in different directions in space. The IFS with parameters method involves proportion, rotation and displacement parameters that control IFS codes and make images change continuously according to predetermined design and generate animations. A series of image examples are given to show the effects of the methods, namely, !Change of brightness, !From tree to forest and !animation.

Abstract:Since the encoding time for fractal encoding method is high and of importance, how to speed up the encoding is a key issue. In this paper, we propose a fast and efficient fractal coding algorithm, which is based on merged quadtree partitioning scheme. In this algorithm, the searching procedure in the finer level sufficiently uses the computing result of the coarser one. For the searches in finer levels, most of computation has been completed by searches in the coarser level, so the total search time reduces greatly. Besides, we use simple merged quadtree to reduce the number of transformation needed by encoding the whole image, so at the same PSNR, we also gain an increase of the compression ratio.

Abstract:For the convenience of store and transmission,it is necessary to conduct compression encoding for digital image.Fractal image coding has the characteristics of high compression,but the match searching time in the process of encoding is huge.In this paper a fractal image coding method based on block-dividing is proposed.The human vision system is not sensitive to the subjective quality of the reconstructed image in case of a small PSNR change.The original image is divided into small blocks in space domain directly,and to the interesting parts the blocks can be divided further by one-to-four.Then the fractal image coding to each blocks is carried out,and the reconstruction is also conducted ateach block respectively.The experimental results demonstrate that the match searching time can be reduced substantially and the subject image quality remain unchanged basically,meanwhile the PSNR being decreased slightly.

Abstract:Fractal image compression becomes a hot topic because of its high compression ratio,but it also has some disadvantages especially the imbalance between coding and encoding.According to the basic principle of fractal image compression,an improved method is given,which replaces the traditional method and simplifies the computation based on the main diagonal before matching the range pool and the domain pool.Experimental results show that this method leads to better results on time and PSNR.

Abstract:Fractal image compression is investigated. Based on Lyapunov function and switching control theory, anew partition fractal image compression algorithm is proposed. For a input image. two classes of fractal codes are obtained. The first class of fractal codes are got without scaling factor limits. Then. the second fractal codes are got accoding to the limits. The reconstructed image can be got by switching between the decoded models depenting on the two classes of fracltal codes. The simulation shows that the proposed algorithm has a better quiality than the conventional PIFS and the convergence of the algorithm is guaranteed.

Abstract:This paper presents a new scheme to speed up fractal image compression based on HV partition. In this scheme, we propose a new approach based on character track that can speed up the process of searching appropriate domain blocks. In this technique we first abstract the range block's characters, then when we searching in the domain block pool, only domain blocks which characters are exactly fit with the range block could transact the process of matching. The experimental result shows that with this technique we can improve the speed of encoding more one hundred times than the original algorithm (without any accelerate technique).

Abstract:The quadtree method is usually used in fractal block coding, but its efficiency is very low. We propose a new scheme, merged quadtree partitioning (MQP), for efficient image compression. It is an improved quadtree method, and can merge the quadtree nodes on the same level and on the different levels to share one transformation. As the merged nodes describe irregular regions with boundaries approximating the image edges, which need only one transformation, the total number of transformations required by MQP is much less than by the quadtree method. Thus, we obtain a greater compression ratio. In addition, we speed up MQP method by using the relationship between the search of the merged range and that of its parent range, and obtain a shorter encoding time than with other partitioning schemes.
Fast Fractal Image Encoding Based on Special Image Features

Abstract:The fractal image encoding method has received much attention for its many advantages over other methods, such as high decoding quality at high compression ratios. However, because every range block must be compared to all domain blocks in the codebook to find the best-matched one during the coding procedure, baseline fractal coding （BFC） is quite time consuming. To speed up fractal coding, a new fast fractal encoding algorithm is proposed. This algorithm aims at reducing the size of the search window during the domain-range matching process to minimize the computational cost. A new theorem presented in this paper shows that a special feature of the image can be used to do this work. Based on this theorem, the most inappropriate domain blocks, whose features are not similar to that of the given range block, are excluded before matching. Thus, the best-matched block can be captured much more quickly than in the BFC approach. The experimental results show that the runtime of the proposed method is reduced greatly compared to the BFC method. At the same time, the new algorithm also achieves high reconstructed image quality. In addition, the method can be incorporated with other fast algorithms to achieve better performance. Therefore, the proposed algorithm has a much better application potential than BFC.
Fast Fractal Image Encoding Using an Improved Search Scheme

Abstract:As fractal image encoding algorithms can yield high-resolution reconstructed images at very high compression ratio, and therefore, have a great potential for improving the efficiency of image storage and image transmission. However, the baseline fractal encoding algorithm requires a great deal of time to complete the best matching search between the range and domain blocks, which greatly limits practical applications of the algorithm. In order to solve this problem, a necessary condition of the best matching search based on an image feature is proposed in this paper. The proposed method can reduce the search space significantly and excludes the most inappropriate domain blocks for each range block before carrying out the best matching search. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm can produce good quality reconstructed images and requires much less time than the baseline encoding algorithm. Specifically, the new algorithm can speed up encoding by about 85 times with a loss of just 3 dB in the peak signal to noise ratio (PSNR), and yields compression ratios close to 34.
Two-Step Matching Approach for Fractal Image Encoding

Abstract:Fractal image compression is a relatively new and effective technique with a high compression ratio and short decoding time. However, the disadvantage is explicit, as the time consumed in the encoding procedure is enormous. Here we developed a new encoding approach, which gains drastic improvement in speed, compared with the conventional method (by Fisher and Jacobs). The essence of the algorithm is two-step matching rather than one-step while comparing domains with a range. In the first step we select some candidate domain blocks (CDBs) which are more 'near' to the range. And in the second step, we select the most matched domain from CDBs. Both of the steps are very simple. As a result, the total rime spent in two steps is even shorter than one step. Experiments show that the improved algorithm is 2 to 4 times faster than the conventional one (by Fisher and Jacobs). Furthermore, the quality of the recovered images is almost as same as that acquired from the conventional method, with 0.1dB reduction at most. In addition, MMX technique is employed in the core parr of the algorithm. Experiments indicate that by MMX technique the speed is near 3 times as fast as before.

Abstract:This paper focuses on the design of chaotic image compression encryption algorithms. Firstly, we design a uniform non-degenerate chaotic system based on nonlinear filters and the feed-forward and feed-back structure. Theoretical and experimental analyses indicate that the system can avoid the drawbacks of the existing chaotic systems, such as chaos degradation, uneven trajectory distribution, and weak chaotic behavior. In addition, our chaotic system can produce chaotic sequences with good pseudo-random characteristics. Then, we propose a fractal image compression algorithm based on adaptive horizontal or vertical (HV) partition by improving the baseline HV partition and the time-consuming global matching algorithm. The algorithm does not need to implement time-consuming global matching operations. In addition, analysis results demonstrate that our fractal image compression algorithm can reconstruct the original image with high quality under ultra-high compression ratios. Finally, to protect the confidentiality of images, we propose a chaotic fractal image compression and encryption algorithm by using our chaotic system and fractal image compression algorithm. The algorithm achieves excellent diffusion and confusion abilities without using the hash value of plain images. Therefore, it avoids the failure of decryption caused by the tampering of hash value during the transmission process, and can well resist differential attacks and chosen-ciphertext attacks. In addition, simulation results show the algorithm is efficient and robust.
