Fingerprint Minutiae Extraction by Following Its Ridge

Abstract:We produce a new method for minutiae detection by following the ridge-line, where the minutiae are extracted directly from the original gray-scale fingerprint images. It follows the image ridgelines, until a termination or a bifurcation occurs. Relative to traditional algorithms, the processing time and credibility have been greatly improved. Experiment results show that this method performs better in terms of efficiency and robustness contrast to traditional algorithms.
