Abstract:Objective To investigate the colonization of Staphylococcus aureus in oral cavity and skin lesions of acute atopic dermatitis(AD) infants. Methods This study involved 40 cases of AD,in comparison with 20 healthy infants.Samples were obtained from their saliva and skin lesions, and then Staphylococcus aureus were detected by bacteria culture. Results The positive detection rate of Staphylococcus aureus in AD infant saliva and skin lesions were 35% and 65% respectively, while 5% both in saliva and skin in control. There was a significant difference between the case and control group(P0.05).There was no relation between the positive detection rate of Staphylococcus aureus and the severity of AD(P0.05).The colony density of Staphylococcus aureus in AD infant were 2.33×104CFU·ml-1in saliva and 1.26×105CFU·cm-2in skin lesions respectively. The colony density of Staphylococcus aureus had a positive carrelation with the severity of AD(P0.005).Conclusion The Staphylococcus aureus colony appeared not only in skin lesions but also in the saliva of AD infant, and it may play a role in pathogenesis of AD.
