Survey of the Current Status about Tobacco Use and Its Influencing Factors among Students in Junior High Schools of a Community in Shanghai

Abstract:Objective To study the current status about tobacco use and its related factors among students in junior schools of a community in Shanghai. Methods 1621 students were investigated with questionnaire by random cluster sampling. Results The tentative smoking rate was 14.9%, smoking rate was 0.2%. The passive smoking rate was 44%. The influencing risk factors related to tentative smoking included having friends who smokes, buying tobacco for family members, bad relationship with family, poor cognition and incorrect attitude to tobacco use. Conclusions The environmental influence should be taken into account in school tobacco control and integrated it with community tobacco control.
