Xingnaojing for Cerebral Haemorrhage:A Systematic Review

Abstract:Objective:To assess the efficacy and safety of xingnaojing in the treatment of cerebral haemorrhage.Methods:Databases,including Cochrane Library,Chinese Biomedical Documentary(1978-2008),Chinese Periodical(1979-2008),Chinese Scientific Periodical(1989-2008) and Wanfang Electronic Periodical(1989-2008),were searched,and randomized controlled trials were collected.Meta-analysis of the included trials was carried out to evaluate the efficacy of xingnaojing.Results:28 Randomized controlled trials were included.Xingnaojing was effective in decreasing mortality during the period of treatment compared with basic treatment(P<0.01).In improving neurologic impairment,xingnaojing was more effective than basic treatment(P<0.01).Xingnaojing also showed being more efficient in promoting consciousness recovery,reducing body temperature and alleviating hematoma and edema.Conclusion:Xingnaojing is effective in decreasing mortality in short time after cerebral haemorrhage,and it is superior to the basic treatment in improving neurologic impairment,promoting consciousness recovery,and reducing body temperature.Large-scale and well-designed clinical trial is needed to give more persuasive evidence to prove the efficacy of xingnaojing.
