Role of ~(67)Ga scintigraphy in the diagnosis and evaluation of therapy of extranodal malignant lymphoma patients

Abstract:Objective To assess the usefulness of 67Ga scintigraphy in the diagnosis and in the evaluation of therapy of extranodal malignant lymphoma(EML) patients. Methods Thirty-seven patients with extranodal non-Hodgkin's lymphoma(NHL)proved by pathology were studied.Fourteen patients were studied before the treatment,and 23 patients were studied after 6～8 cycles of chemotherapy(including 11 treated with surgery and 2 with limited radiotherapy).All the 23 patients were followed up in an average time of 26 months(12～48). Results 67Ga scintigraphy sensitivity was 72%(10/14) in the diagnosis of EML.67Ga scintigraphy found abnormalities in 6 of 10 patients whose extranodal lymphoma occurred in supra-diaphragram and all of 4 patients whose extranodal lymphoma occurred in infra-diaphragram.The sensitivity of 67Ga was correlated with the grade of lymphoma.During the period of follow-up,the negative predictive value(NPV) was 72%(13/18). Conclusion 67Ga scintigraphy is helpful to the diagnosis and to evaluate the therapeutic effect in the patients with EML.
