Abstract:Objective To explore the correlation between the expression of SERT and somatic and psychological symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome(IBS). Methods 154 cases of IBS patients in the First People's Hospital of Foshan City from January 2010 to December 2012 were selected as disease group and divided into three groups(C-IBS group, D-IBS group, A-IBS group) according to different symptom. 65 healthy volunteers were selected as control group. The psychological symptom of study objects were evaluated by SLC-90. The expression of SERT at mRNA level was tested by real-time potymerase chain reaction(PCR) and the expression of SERT at protein level was detected with Western blotting. Results The expressions of SERT at protein: disease group(0.81±0.45) and control group(0.79±0.47) were compared, the difference was not statistically significant(P 0.05). The expressions of mRNA: disease group(0.46±0.25) and the control group(0.42±0.28) were compared, the difference was not statistically significant(P 0.05). The expressions of SERT at protein(0.98±0.51) and mRNA(0.58±0.23) in C-IBS group were significantly higher than those in D-IBS group [(0.71 ±0.40),(0.41 ±0.25)], A-IBS group [(0.67 ±0.35),(0.37 ±0.23)] and control group [(0.79 ± 0.47),(0.42±0.28)], the differences were statistically significant(P 0.05). There were negative correlations between the expression of SERT at protein level and somatic symptoms(r =-0.681, P 0.01), hostility factor(r =-0.663, P 0.01), anxiety factor(r =-0.711, P 0.01) and depression factor(r =-0.812, P 0.01), however there was no correlation between the expression of SERT at protein level and obsessive-compulsive symptoms, terror, paranoia, interpersonal sensitivity and psychosis factors(P 0.05). Conclusion There is significant correlation between the expressions of SERT at mRNA and protein level and the somatic and psychological symptoms of IBS patients. It shows that the lower level of SERT expressions, the more emotional performance of somatization, anxiety and so on.
