Abstract:In order to deal with uncertainties of models and operating parameters in power systems, a fuzzy neural network control of TCSC is proposed. The designed controller is based on fuzzy parameters and rules got from a linear optimal controller. Neural network parameters are optimized by the BFGS method, and the feedback gain matrix is obtained after defuzzification. Simulation results show that the controller can improve both steady stability and transient stability of power systems. Abstract:This article presents a neural-network-based fuzzy logic control (NN-FLC) system. The NN-FLC model has the learning capabilities for constructing membership functions and extracting fuzzy rules from training examples. Both unsupervised and supervised training algorithms are used to find the membership functions of the FLC. Competitive learning algorithms are employed to evaluate fuzzy logic rules. Matlab programs using both neural and fuzzy toolboxes are developed to implement the NN-FLC model. Computer simulations of the inverted pendulum controlled by NN-FLC system were conducted to illustrate the self-learning ability of the network. (C) 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.

Abstract:Genetic algorithm (GA) is applied to modeling fuzzy systems.After analyzing the basic principles of genetic algorithms, modified measures are proposed. The inheritance and aberrance of genetic algorithms in fuzzy systems are emphatically discussed. Thus a method with strong evolving ability to automatically produce fuzzy rules is presented. It is a new way for intelligent systems to acquire fuzzy rules. The experiments show that it is practicable in application.

Abstract:To the liguid level control problem in process industry,and the operation of liquid level equipment,a liquid level control system based on fuzzy rules is designed to overcome the shortcomings of regular control methods.This design adopts fuzzy control method with feedforward compensation to eliminate the influence of the measurable disturbances on the liquid level.The strategy avoids online optimization and improves the system robustness.Practical industry application shows that the control system yields fairly good results.

Abstract:A new constructive method of the neuro-fuzzy net-work based on rough sets is proposed. First, an initial fuzzy rule base is generated from the history input-output data pairs by rough sets approach. Then, a neuro-fuzzy network is formed according to the rule table. And the learning algorithm based on the gradient descent method is given. The major advantage of this approach is to optimize the overall structure of the neuro-fuzzy network as well as to adjust each parameter of fuzzy rules without doing the complicated clustering process. Finally, the efficiency of the new method is illustrated by means of applying to truck backer-upper control.

Abstract:The neuro-fuzzy control method for a constant cutting force metal turning process is proposed in this paper. The model of a turning process is described. After discussing the neuron controller and a basic fuzzy controller, the neuro-fuzzy control system is designed. The new model-free controller is combined the neuron controller with the fuzzy controller. The simulation results of using the proposed controller for a cutting process show that this controller has very strong robustness and good performance.

Abstract:To the six-degree-of-freedom hydraulic parallel robot system featured by significant uncertainties and random disturbances and with eigenparameters varying greatly with the working conditions and surroundings, a fuzzy transfer is designed by combining the fuzzy rules and the neuron model-free control method in this paper. The neuron control method using this fuzzy transfer is proposed to control the hydraulic active joint of the robot system. The simulation results show that this new model-free control method has very strong robustness and adaptability as well as good resistant disturbances and satisfied performances. It is useful for the real-time control of the hydraulic parallel robot.

Abstract:A real - time fuzzy control algorithm is presented in this paper, and the realization way for a class of motion control systems is analyzed; then the fuzzy motion control system based on CAN field bus is implemented. Both the overall architecture of the system and the design of field motion controller are proposed here. The experiments results show that the proposed fuzzy control system has better performance in the rapid response real - time and precision and is useful in motion control system.

Abstract:Pure neural network and pure fuzzy system have advantages and shortcomings individually. The fuzzy neural network is the combination of neural network and fuzzy system, which gives better performance than any one of them. An adaptive control approach based on a fuzzy neural network was presented. First the initial fuzzy rules were extracted by using a traditional controller. Then expert experiences were used to complement the rules. Finally the error back propagation algorithm was used for on line adaptive tuning parameters of the fuzzy neural network. The presented approach has been used to a traching control of a manipulation by simulation. Two fuzzy neural networks have been used in the control. One has been used for the direct control, the other is used for inverse dynamics modelling. It shows a better result than the traditional controller.

Abstract:The fuzzy logic controller has been shown its power in ill-defined or nonprecise systems. However there are still some shortcomings. Two of them are that the control rules of fuzzy controller could not be always made optimal and that no systematic method is available for acquiring fuzzy control rules. In this paper, a systematic design procedure of an optimal fuzzy controller is presented. This controller will have the form of an ordinary fuzzy controller and make the fuzzy performance index J= k=f Tf�� (aN a(k))-r-bN b(k)) minimum, which is similar to the quadratic performance index. This method is applied to a papermachine control system and the control result is very satisfactory.

Abstract:This paper presents a layer-structured fuzzy neural network (FNN) for learning rules of fuzzy-logic control systems. Initially, FNN is constructed to contain all the possible fuzzy rules. We propose a two-phase learning procedure for this network. The first phase is a error-backprop (EBP) training, and the second phase is a rule pruning. Since some functions of the nodes in the FNN have the competitive characteristics, the EBP training will converge quickly. After the training, a pruning process is performed to delete redundant rules for obtaining a concise fuzzy rule base. Simulation results show that for the truck backer-upper control problem, the training phase learns the knowledge of fuzzy rules in several dozen epochs with an error rate of less than 1%. Moreover, the fuzzy rule base generated by the pruning process contains only 14% of the initial fuzzy rules and is identical to the target fuzzy rule base.

Abstract:The laser surface alloying quality may vary significantly with respect to the process parameters variation. Hence, a feedback control system is required to monitor the operating parameters for yielding a good quality control. Since this multi-input and multi-output system has nonlinear coupling and time varying dynamic characteristics, it is very difficult to establish an accurate process model for designing model-based controller. Hence a hybrid model-free adaptive fuzzy and neural network controller HAFNC, which combines an adaptive rule with fuzzy and neural network control, is employed in this study to overcome the difficulty. It has on-line learning ability for responding to the system's nonlinear and time-varying behaviors. Since this model-free controller has simple control structure and small number of control parameters, it is easy to implement. Two HAFNC controllers are designed for tuning the laser power and the traverse velocity simultaneously to tackle the absorptivity and geometrical variations of the work pieces. Simulation results based on semi-experimental system dynamic model and parameters show that the good surface lapping performance is achieved by using this intelligent control strategy.

Abstract:This paper presents a control strategy that enhances fuzzy controller with self-learning capability for achieving prescribed control objectives with the use of artificial neural network. The neural network,termed CPN(counter propagation networds),is trained to establish fuzzy associations between the input and output fuzzy subsets. The fuzzy logic controller based on CPN can refine the fuzzy if-then rules if human experts are not all available and it also improves the system property such as the robustness and fault-tolerance. The air cushion headbox system is employed as a test-bed to demonstrate the efffectiveness of the proposed control scheme.

Abstract:In this paper, an adaptive fuzzy-neural network has been introduced to simulate the constitutive relation model between the process parameters and target functions with unknown models, and it is of advantages that fuzzy rules and membership functions can be optimally adjusted automatically. Meanwhile,the paper illuminates the concrete methods to apply fuzzy-neural network technique to the field of material processing, and presents feasible resolvents for the troubles suffered during the establishment of the fuzzy-neural network.

Abstract:To treat the difficulties in the design of MIMO fuzzy controller, which arise as high dimensional rule bases and the acquirement of the membership functions and rules, a novel hierarchical fuzzy logical controller (NHFLC) is presented in this paper. Based on the proposed controller, empirical information and expert knowledge about the process are not needed, and the total number of rules is drastically decreased. Genetic algorithm is used to obtain the fuzzy control strategies for the NHFLC. The simulation results show the proposed NHFLC has better dynamic performance and robust stability than the conventional MIMO fuzzy controller.

Abstract:The molten steel level control of strip casting process has the properties of nonlinear uncertainty and time-varying characteristics, hence, it is difficult to establish an accurate process model for designing a model-based controller to monitor the strip quality. This study develops a hybrid model-free adaptive fuzzy and neural network controller (HAFNC) which combines an adaptive rule with fuzzy and neural network control to overcome the difficulty. The proposed control strategy has online learning ability for responding to the system's nonlinear and time-varying behaviors during the molten steel level control. Since this model-free controller has simple control structure and small number of control parameters, it is easy to implement. Numerical results based on semi-experimental system dynamic model and parameters are executed to show the control performance of the proposed intelligent controller.

Abstract:A one-step-ahead adaptive control scheme based on fuzzy models is present for a class of nonlinear dynamic system which have no restriction on the structure. The specific features of the fuzzy systems are taken into consideration. The proposed method has the following properties: (i) By properly designing the fuzzy system, the modeling error converges to an error band which can be made arbitrarily small. (ii) With mild assumptions, the tracking error of the closed-loop system is guaranteed within an epsilon-neighborhood of zero and the stability is ensured. Tests on the data from a real steel-heating furnace axe given to show the effectiveness of the scheme.

Abstract:The existing control theory is divided into two parts in this paper, i.e. precise control theory and fuzzy control theory. After investigating the advantages and disadvantages of the precise control and fuzzy control respectively, the so-called fuzzy-precise combined control strategy is proposed from the view of practical application in the paper. This new strategy will bring maximum control benefits with minimum design efforts. As the application background, the fuzzy-precise combined control strategy has applied into four full scale paper machine control systems, and all of them got good control results.

Abstract:It is well known that sliding-mode control is simple and insensitive to uncertainties and disturbances. However, control input chattering is the main problem of the classical sliding-mode controller (SMC). In this paper, a fuzzy neural network SMC (FNNSMC) is presented for a class of nonlinear systems. The FNNSMC can eliminate the chattering, unlike the SMC, but there is larger rising time in the FNNSMC than in the SMC. In some cases, small rising time is important. To decrease the rising time of the FNNSMC, an adaptive controller is proposed where the SMC and the FNNSMC are incorporated by a smooth transformation. This adaptive control scheme can improve the dynamical performance and eliminate the high-frequency chattering in the control signal. The system stability is proved by using Lyapunov function. The simulation results demonstrate the advantages of the proposed adaptive controller.
